The Perk, Wednesday Morning
Honor entered the Perk, greeted by the welcoming scent of coffee. It was still amazing to her how something that smelled so good tasted so vile. For that reason, she approached the counter and ordered a hot chocolate. The treecat on her shoulder gave a bleek of amusement, earning him an arched brow from his person.
Hot chocolate in hand, she settled into one of the overstuffed chairs with a side table and pulled out her minicomp. The past few days had been something of a blur. As a result, she hadn't quite caught up on all the dispatches from home. Powering up the small device, she began scrolling through the newsfaxes. There wasn't much of note, really -- the usual in-fighting between the Centrists and Conservatives -- power struggles she was all too aware of from her semi-regular conversations with Hamish and Willie. One thing did strike her interest: Michael "Misha" Brown, a known associate of Solomon Hayes, the columnist who had started the original rumours concerning she and Hamish, had gone missing. His editors said he was following a hot tip, and had not been heard from since.
Her lips thinned and she reached for her drink. "Couldn't have happened to a nicer person," she murmured. She wondered what it might take for Solomon Hayes to meet the same fate.
Nimitz bleeked his approval, then turned his attention to a particularly warm patch of sunshine just to the right of her chair.
