Walter sat on the bench next to the pond that had the best view of Anna. He wasn't emoing, but he was thinking about the events that had led up to his and Nadia's making the lobster sculpture and the events that had followed.

And smoking. But that mostly went without saying.

Pippi is taking the long way back from the dock when she notices Walter Brooding like he thinks he's Angel or something smoking.

"Hey."

"Hey." Walter didn't bother with looking surprised. Brooding Thinking seemed to attract people.

"I was just working on my boat..."

"Mmhm?" Ah, sweet nicotine. "All shipshape now?"

"She's yar." Pippi shrugged. "What brings you out here?"

"Wanted to think and the roof has turned into a place you go for company." It wasn't meant as a dig at her and he counted on her good nature to recognize that. "I'm alright."

Pippi smiled a bit at the crack about the roof.

"I'm restless."

"Why is that? You've been in one place for too long?"

"Something like that probably."

"I think we have a long weekend later this month for some American holiday celebrating some man I haven't heard of. If Pip and Nadia are agreeable, we could try for our trip then."

"As long as it's not a weekend we have a cheer thing or a Teal Dear thing..." Pippi scratched her head.

So, free time was a hard thing to come by. That happened. "We'll work something out. I'll be at Caritas tomorrow night to see the band."

"Steerpike?" He so wanted to misspeak that name for no reason he could discern. It just wanted to come out mangled.

"I have three classes with him." And Walter was starting to think that the word sycophantic might be appropriate. "He told you he was coming to see you perform?"

"Nah he might be like a roadie 'cause I cooked for him or something." she shrugged.

Actually, she'd given him a gold coin to buy clothes but you can't expect the girl to keep track of what she does with her money.

"There are a number of things that are odd about him, but I'm having some trouble working it out, since it's just so bloody odd to be looking at not-me."
