Perk, Monday night

After going for a walk Peter decided to grab some coffee. He went into the Perk, ordered their biggest cup, and sat down to enjoy.

Hoping that this time she wouldn't have an run ins with religious psychos, or jerky evil witches, Jo came into the Perk and ordered a coffee.

She nodded to Peter. "Hey."

"Hey," Peter said. He glanced around. "Need this seat?"

"The chair? No," Jo replied and smiled. "Conversation in here with someone who isn't a whackjob? Yes."

"Do my best," Peter said, though he raked a worried hand through his hair. "Peter Petrelli."

"Jo Harvelle," she replied, grinning and offering Peter her hand to shake. "Nice to meet you."

Peter shook her hand in return. "So... I'm learning to ask this question in Fandom: literal wacking or metaphorical?"

"Mostly metaphorical," Jo said, then muttered. "Although there was a need for literal yesterday."

"The radio sounded crazier than usual," Peter said, in case that would help.

"You could say that," Jo snorted. "It was like half the island was possessed or something."

"I think it passed me by," Peter said. Then he remembered his conversation with Nathan. "Least, I'm pretty sure. How could you even tell?"

Jo shrugged. "There's a couple of ways," she said. "Depending on the type of demon."

"You sound like you know something about this," Peter said.

"Enough to get by," Jo replied.

"So what's a sign of demon possession like?" Peter asked. Then, half-joking, "Is it pea soup? Because I figured that was a movie cliche."

"Well, for starters there's having a bad reaction to holy water, the name of God, that kinda stuff," she said. "Some people have blackouts, or odd dreams."

That got Peter's attention. "...odd dreams?"

"Yeah," Jo nodded. "Although supposedly it's less dreams than what the demon's doing with your body while you're not in control."

Peter leaned forward. "Like what?"

"Well, I've only actually heard about these kinda cases," Jo admitted, leaning forward herself in case the wiat staff got nosy. "Kill people, make deals with them, summon hellhounds, all kinds of things, none of them good, and if it's a really powerful demon you can do things that normal people can't."

Something in his gut told him he didn't want to hear this but he leaned forward anyway. "Like fly?"

Jo nodded. "Some of them, yeah."

Peter looked worried. "What else can they do?"

"Some are supposed to have telekinesis, control over the elements, enhanced speed and strength, healing abilities," Jo said. "It's a long list."

"And these are all bad things?"

[wannabehunter]

"Since they come from being possessed by a demon, yeah."

"Wow." Peter raked a hand through his hair. "This is... okay. This is a little new."

"Sorry," Jo said. "Forgot that this kinda thing is only fantasy to some people. Still, it's possessions tend to be rare, which is a good thing, because exorcisms? Whoo boy."

"It's not that I don't believe," Peter said. "It's just... it never occured to me that there could be a downside."

Jo frowned. "You come from a place where demon possessions are a good thing?"

Peter gave a wry smile. "Where I thought - "

He paused. After listening to Jo he was a little reluctant to admit to having had what he thought were prophetic dreams.

Then another thought occured to him from his talk with Nathan. "Can this sort of thing run in families? Like... father to son?"

"Couldn't say for sure," Jo said, then thought about it. "Though if a demon took an interest in a particular family it might."

"So not unheard of," Peter concluded. He raked a hand through his hair again. "I - I should probably go. Got homework. I'm glad I ran into you, Jo."

"Glad to meet you too, Peter," Jo said. "See you around."

Peter took what was left of his coffee and headed out, thinking deep thoughts all the while.
