Ching Tai: Thursday Lunch [1-25-07]

Lana arrived a little early and was quietly sipping some tea as she waited for Marie to arrive. It would be nice to have lunch with a friend before work - and before the evening's meeting with Mr. Phale.

Marie entered the restaurant and smiled when she spotted Lana. "Hey," she said, slipping into the seat opposite. "How's your week been so far?"

Lana smiled at her. "Not too bad," she said. "Still dealing with all the fallout from the weekend. How about you?"

"I seem to have managed to mostly put the weekend behind me," Marie admitted. "I hope you're able to soon."

"Me too," Lana said. "Though I sometimes wonder if things between Jim and I will ever be the same. Hopefully, it will just take time. But anyway, we're here and we're going to have a nice lunch."

"I don't care about him," Lana said. "He was some terrible other person I didn't know. I mean, sometimes I can still hear the horrible things he said, but I can ignore it. But I was myself - or an uninhibited version of myself - and I think we're both having trouble coming to terms with that."

"But you weren't you," Marie said. "You might have been some alternate universe Lana, but it wasn't you. Willow was another Willow, but she was a vampire and tried to kill me. I was some girl named Polexia who looked just like me, but didn't have the hair streaks or my mutation."

"I know," Lana said. "At least, logically, I know that."

She shrugged, making a rueful face. "I'll get over it eventually, one way or another."

She glanced up as the waiter came over. "Yes, I'd like the chow mein, please?"

"I'd like the cashew chicken," Marie decided.

"It'll all work out," she assured Lana after the waiter left. "Heck, if Jamie and I managed to make it after me putting him in a coma, you and Jim can get through this."

Lana smiled at her. "We love each other. Even with all the horribleness of the weekend and as much as it confused each of us, we knew we loved each other and belonged together. That's got to count for something."

"Definitely," Marie smiled back. "It's just more Fandom weirdness. I've come to accept it as a part of life."

Lana waggled a hand in front of her. "Sort of. I don't know. I'm not quite sure how I ended up in the squad. I was a cheerleader back home and quit because it wasn't me, but... Here I am. Are you excited about them?"

"That's for sure," Lana said with a grin. "We have an 'interesting' school." She pushed the chow mein around on her plate, separating it into sections and nibbling on one long strand.

Marie, meanwhile, dug into her food with no hesitation. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure most other schools don't deal with randomly turning into other people for a weekend."

"Most other schools don't have such an eclectic combination of students to begin with," Lana agreed. "All the special happenings are just the icing on the cake. Makes you wonder what would happen though if we go to one of these competitions and all turn wee tiny or have jello dragons follow us or something." She redistributed her food and finished nibbling on the original noodle.

Marie noticed that Lana didn't seem to be actually eating much and frowned.

"Is something wrong with your food?" she asked.
