The Devil's Nest - Thursday Evening [2/1]

Neil was at the Nest bright and probably annoyingly earl, as was his general habit on the nights he worked. He greeted Mazikeen with a smile and a friendly wave but had learned not to try to initiate conversation with her.

This still didn't win him umbrella rights. Le sigh.

Checking over the bar to make sure it was properly stocked for the night, Neil settled in to work on cleaning the place, wall to wall and sling drinks as necessary.

Starting with the bar tonight, as Neil worked behind it he was carefully taking down each bottle and wiping the shelves and the bottles so that they glistened and gleamed invitingly under the bar lights.

Rosette was hoping maybe the coin-method would be a good way to determine which bar to quell her insatiable (although, really, lately, rather dormant) thirst for alcohol, but when the coin landed tails and she came into the Nest, she really knew she hadn't been coming around here enough. She thought she recognized Wilson working behind the bar, but, no, on closer expection, this kid was much too young and no someone she recognized after all. It was a bad sign when you haven't realized new staff had moved in.

"I don't think I know you, do I?" the nun asked as she slid onto a stool for a better look. She could have, but, then again, maybe not, and the best way to find out was to ask.

Neil looked over from where he was wiping down a bottle of scotch and smiled to Rosette.

"I don't believe we've met, ma'am."

Setting the bottle back in place, Neil walked over to her. "I'm Neil. Can I help you?"

Rosette returned the smile, because she thought he had a very nice one. "Nice to meet you, Neil," she said as she leaned on the bar a little. "I'm Rosette. You got any drinks you think you make particularly well?"

Leaning against the bar, Neil thought about which drinks he felt comfortable with, pursing his lips thoughtfully.

"Well, I know how to make a nice dry dirty martini, that's one of the boss's favorites you see. I can also do a whiskey sour, I've finally gotten black and tans down as well and of course the straight up over the rocks or neat shots."

Rosette considered the list for a moment before asking, noticing a new term and being intrigued, always up for something new and not exactly wanting to go with what Lucifer was prone to drink, "Black and tans?"

"Bass ale on the bottom with Guiness draft beer on the top." Neil described, grabbing down a glass and showing Rosette where the seperation would be.

"Mmm," Rosette's nose wrinkled a little. "I think I'll stick with a whiskey sour, then, please."

Neil smiled and set about pulling together a very well mixed whiskey sour. No umbrella though, as he wasn't allowed to play with those yet.

"Here you go, Ma'am. Let me know if you need anything else tonight."

It had been a while since she'd been in the Nest, but not long enough to notice something wrong with the drink. She looked at it with a frown for a moment, until her eyes drifted toward where Mazikeen was. Slipping an umbrella into a drink for a ~~totally NPC~~ patron.

Rosette smirked. "Oh, please don't tell me she's actually hording the umbrellas."

Looking over his shoulder, Neil grinned and ducked his head a little sheepishly.

"Oh, no. She's the senior bar tender. Getting the distribute the umbrellas is a right that must be earned. I'm still working on earning it."

"Earnin--" Rosette checked herself and leaned in toward Niel, lowering her voice, grinning. "Earning it?" she whispered. "What an outrage! What about use customers? I feel as though my drinking experience here at the Nest has been lessened by the lack of umbrella. What sort of crazy bartending system puts a heirarchy ahead of the customers? This is America. We don't have heirarchies in America!"

Neil's eyes widened and he flailed a little.

"Oh, it's not meant to do that." He quickly reassured Rosette. "I mean, if you want, you can have Mazikeen serve you and then you get the umbrellas." Neil smiled and turned towards Mazikeen as if to call her over so that Rosette could get an umbrella.

"The choice is always the customer's after all." Neil said with a nod.

Rosette...couldn't help gawking a little. She let out a snort of a laugh, shaking her head, as she picked up her drink for a sip. "I was only joking, Neil," she said. "I actually hate those damn umbrellas."

Casting a quick glance towards Mazikeen to make sure she hadn't heard the words against her beloved umbrellas, Neil grinned at Rosette and made sure the bowl of bar snacks was sitting full in front of her.

"Ah, well then...if you'd like another, just give me a hollar."

Rosette definately approved of this guy. Even if he did seem a little...jumpy? She was going to go with jumpy. But he did work at the devil's bar, so she guessed she couldn't blame him.

"Oh, I will," Rosette winked as she took a good swig of her drink and settled in for some people watching.

In between tending customers at the bar, Neil worked in the lounge. Tonight did seem to be dusting and lint collection night.

As always, if the master of the Nest was around, Neil was careful not to disturb him.

Rose arrived in the Devil's Nest after ~~handwavily~~ calling Clark for a date. She fidgeted on her seat nervously.

Clark walked in, once more sans glasses.

Rose smiled when she saw Clark, once more not wearing his glasses. She looked around and made sure no one was close to hear when she said, "So, what should I call you Clark Kent or," low voiced and rather saucily, "Superman?"

Clark snorted a laugh. "I think people might find that a bit, uhm, strange."

Rose laughed. "It is a bit flash." She gestured to the chair next to her then shifted nervously. "Uh, how've you been?"

Clark sat. "I've been rather well. And you?"

"Good. Well. Met old friends, uh, older friends not the young-old friends who are yet to be old-old friends." Rose said, she was fiddling with her drink. "Remember the old friend I told you about? The alien? Best mate in the whole universe? Thought I'd never see again but I did see? Because Fandom is strange this way. And how strange is that? I mean this place is obviously some multidimensional hub and it's something it's not everyday people multidimensional hubs with differing timelines and universes. It's nearly impossible too!"

And on and on she goes, she'd probably be on this for a while if no one stops her.

Clark touched her hand. "The one who likes banannas?" he guessed.

His touch derailed her from her ramble and brought her back to the main topic. "Uh, yes, the one who likes bananas with the big ears? Annoying tendency to call humans 'stupid apes?'" Rose said, she had the feeling Clark would know the Doctor. "The Doctor? He's a version of *my* Doctor. The one I lost?" Here she went quiet. "I lost him twice, it's not..." She shook her head, "See this version has a way about him, in the way that's really irritating and I... somehow... I managed to !"

Rose froze and waited for the onlsaught of words she was sure she was about to get from him.

"You, you told him?" he asked. Well, he was an old friend she'd said. And, he was an alien as well. Still... "Just like that?"

Rose winced. "Yes, but if it's any consolation I trust him with both my secrets and my life." She hung her head. "I understand if you don't trust me after this."

"Rose I...that does help actually, but it's still a little...diconcerting."

Rose still wasn't looking at him. "It's so... and just after I told you I didn't want to do anything to jeopardize our relationship." She finally looked at him, "But if there is one thing in the world I know in any universe its that I could trust the Doctor."

"If you trust him." he said finally. He wasn't sure about any of this really, but he didn't like seeing her upset. "He is the only one you've told right?"

Rose's nod was firm. "Yes. Him and him alone."

"Okay." he said. What's done was done. "As long as it stays that way."

Hesitantly Rose reached out to hold Clark's hand. "He's also like you, you know. He's the last of his kind, really the last of it. He's all alone in the universe."

That surprised him. "He is?"

Rose nodded. "Yes. He wasn't always but when he met him, he had lost everything his world, his people. You should talk to him."

"I might do that." he nodded. He'd only talked to the Doctor a few times.

"I'm sure he'd love to talk to you," Rose said, smiling, "He likes talking."

Big Band swing was the default music choice tonight and Neil planned to lay down a couple coats of wax after close.

Not before, since people might actually be dancing! Neil was doing a little boogying out on the floor, in between tending to customers of course.

An OOC for an OOC note...the world might implode.

I'll be around till probably 11pmEST after which please mod Mazikeen for your drink orders and don't burn the place down.
