Fandom Troopers Station - Sunday

The station was in an uproar. Someone had tried to break into Wonka's. Their Wonka's. The prisoner was safely locked away in jail and receiving quite a lot of dirty glares from her guards. It was safe to say she wasn't getting any chocolate desserts after her meals.

((Please wait for Mel to tag in. You can handwave a trooper escorting you down to talk to her.))

Mel is in her cell. Scowling. No dessert? WTF?

Xander, followed by Dawn, arrived at Mel's cell after blinking a bit at the glaring troopers. Yes, it actually was possible to tell they were glaring. It was something about the way the light reflected off their helmets.

"What did you do to them?" he asked, half worried, half amused. "I don't see any dents in the armor..."

"And they're all still upright," Dawn said, sounding maybe a little disappointed about that.

Mel sunk lower into her cell. "Um. I got caught breaking into Wonka's Chocolates."

"Okay, as a guy with two female best friends, I do understand this concept, but you do know they open again in the morning, right?"

"Are you also dense enough that you actually think I was breaking in to get chocolate?" Mel asked.

"Well, the verb I was going for there was hope. Though actually I was hoping you were breaking in to slay a Therfnusian Chocolatesnorter and the town might throw you a parade once they realized what a great thing you did."

Xander eyed her.

"No joy, huh?"

"Well I'm hoping some of the boys and girls from the fourth sin show up sometime soon so we can throw a party, but yeah. So far no joy," Mel muttered.

"Therfnusian Chocolatesnorter? Aren't they extinct?" Dawn whispered to Xander, then added helpfully, "I think you have to pay the Fourth Sin people to get them to show up."

"Well, I do have all that hooker-money I got back..."

"Not helping!" Mel grumped.

"So we should go? You don't need bail money?" Dawn asked casually.

"Well bail money would be nice!" Mel said nodding eagerly.

"But...hookers?" Xander looked like he couldn't make up his mind. Or tried to.

"Well if it's about your sex life Harris, please don't let me being in jail ruin your good time tonight," Mel grumped.

"No, no, they were gonna be for the party. Not for me."

Xander reached in his pocket and pulled out his wallet, then stopped. "I guess I could spend it on trying to get you out of here, though. If they let you out. What were you thinking, seriously?"

"Well I needed the money and where I come from there's two ways about getting it. I really don't like the idea of working at the Sin, so..."

Mel looked at Xander with... well wonderment as he pulled out his wallet. "Seriously. You're going to bail me out?"

"Believe me when I say you wouldn't get a whole lot of Slaying done behind bars." Xander scratched his head as he peeked into his wallet to see how much he actually did have on him. "Though it's definitely not as fun without the fake mustache and the getaway car."

"So what? You do this for me and I have to be your little soldier, huh?" Mel asked. "Not that I'm grateful or anything but... well. Okay. I am grateful."

Xander shook his head. "No, I do this and you're not in jail. The Watcher thing is still up to you. Always was."

Mel... actually looks touched.

For a second before the hard look goes back on her face.

"Fine. Here's the deal Harris. I'll work for your council on two conditions. One: I stay here until I find a way back to my home. Two: You're my watcher. No one else."

"Well, one, I won't try to take you anyplace you don't want to go," Xander promised.

"Not that you could," Mel replied snarkily. "And I doubt the council would like the connotations of that statement."

"I gave up trying to avoid the unintentional sleaze-factor about three months into the job. 'Bout as long as it took to admit that everything in carpentry sounds dirty so you might as well just go with it." Xander gave a shrug.

"And two, okay, as long as you don't mind if I grab everybody in creation for help. Or at least Dawn and Willow. Willows."

"There's more than one Willow?" Mel asked. "I hope they both don't show up here because the amount of OCD involved in that would make the island explode. But yeah. I can live with that. I was already patrolling with her."

"There's the Willow here, and the one back home who's my age. Time-travel thing. Which... I guess you'd get, since most of us are from your past."

Xander folded the money over in his hand and nodded to Dawn. "If you wait here, I'll go see about giving away all my fake-hooker-cash."

Ten long minutes later, he was back.

Looking less than cheerful.

"Boy, did you pick the wrong town to rob a chocolate shop in."

This would be Mel face-palming. "Now what?"

"Troopers? Realllly like their chocolate. And Sheriffs cost more money than hookers, apparently."

"You tried to sleep with the sheriff?" Mel asked. "That's a unique way to get me out of jail."

"....I didn't even think of that. It might be worth a try if I don't come up with enough brib-- I mean bail, tomorrow."

Mel smirked. "Well it wouldn't be the first time I've been in jail over night. So in the meantime I should sit tight and say only good things about chocolate?"

"Also possibly some variations on the phrase, 'I won't steal things around here again,' might be helpful..." Xander gave her a Look. "Money, I can get you. I mean we're not talking about vacationing in Maui here, but they do give Slayers a living stipend. Now..."

Mel was feeling... grateful. It's a concept she's unfamiliar and uncomfortable with.

Hence her kind of feeling ashamed at someone other than Erin giving her a second chance. And the looking at her boots.

"Um. Thanks. I really don't know what to say."

"That works. You're welcome." Xander grinned. "Though apparently it's my job now, so I'm sort of getting paid for it."

Not that he was getting paid more for it, but he was here. He probably shouldn't mention in his next expense report that really, he'd be willing to pay them for that fact.

Mel chuckled quietly. "So I guess I see you tomorrow? And I guess we can discuss how this whole watcher/slayer thing works then."

Xander nodded and ~~modded~~ headed down the corridor with Dawn. "I should probably do some research before then," he said looking back over his right shoulder, "Since right now all I'm sure of is the standing around watching you hit things, looking up stuff in books, and polishing my glasses a lot." He paused before pushing the button to be let back out. "I'm hoping the glasses are optional; they'd look dumb with the patch."

And Mel pretty much can understand everything but the glasses.

People seem to keep bringing polishing them up.

Hence the confused look.

"Thanks Dawn. Harris. I'll see you tomorrow."
