Luke's diner

Cameron was grateful to find that it had stopped raining meatballs. It meant less stains on his clothes as he made his way to the diner. It probably was better for business too if there wasn't any free food around.

((Open, but I will be spotty for a little while as there is some stuff I need to catch up with.))

Molly opened the door and waved enthusiastically to Cam before turning back to speak to Katara. "I forgot to ask. Have you been here yet? I am such a bad big sister for not showing you more of the town."

Katara waved at Cam too then wrinkled her nose at Molly. "You're not a bad big sister at all! I have been here." She grinned at Cameron. "I met Cameron here too!"

Molly beamed. "Cam is one of my best friends here. I'm glad you've gotten to know him already."

"He introduced me to ice cream," Katara said solemnly. "I can see where he'd be a very good friend."

Molly was a tiny bit disappointed. She knew she had missed introducing Katara to chocolate as well. "Awww, he beat me to it," she said. "You haven't had cheesecake yet, right? I claim introducing you to cheesecake!"

"He was trying to tell me about your world's strange animals," she explained. "And apparently cows make ice cream." She shook her head and kinda lied. "Cheesecake?"

Molly nodded. "It is a really yummy dessert," she said. "Also made by cows. Sort of. I don't think they serve it here, but I know we can get some at J,GOB some time."

"Cows seem useful," Katara said. "At least for when you want sweet things." She grinned at Molly. "We should. I keep hearing about J,GOB, but I've never been there."

Molly bounced a little. "I claim that too!" she said. "They have all sorts of yummy stuff there. Cheesecake, pie, muffins, doughnuts. We can go after lunch!" She added excitedly. "We deserve it after Ethics today."

Katara grinned. "Okay! Definitely! Do they have penguin pie too?" She wrinkled her nose at the mention of Ethics. "That was a stupid class."

Molly blinked. "Penguin pie? I've never..." she stopped and shook her head. "No, no penguin pie. They just make dessert type stuff." She also made a face about Ethics. "It did seem pretty pointless."

She looked disappointed for an instant then moved on. "Completely. Except that Dean's kinda scary and I don't think I'd ever want to have him trying to get information for real." Katara grinned. "And Darth Vader doesn't think water's a weapon."

Molly smirked. "You know better though. That means you have an advantage over him."

Katara pondered that. "I think I'd rather not have to fight him."

"Uh, yeah. That might be a better plan," Molly admitted with a giggle.

"Though...if he does have some of that electrical stuff, I heard that water can hurt that type of..." she flailed for a word. "mechanical stuff. I wonder if it would really cause a problem."

Molly gave Katara a thoughtful look. "It is a good thing to keep in mind," she said. Molly also thought about mentioning it to Luke. Just in case.

Katara returned the look and nodded. "Yeah, that makes sense."

She consciously changed the subject. "So we went ice skating on Saturday! We should go again when you can come."

"Ice skating?" Molly asked. "I've never been before. Where did you go ice skating?"

"Really?" Katara asked, almost amazed at the thought. She grinned. "You couldn't NOT know how to ice skate at home so it seems strange. We skated on the pond out in the park."

"Did the pond freeze this weekend? It looked unfrozen today," Molly said, a little confused.

"Where I'm from, it never gets cold enough for the water to freeze and I never took skating lessons or anything."

Katara looked sneaky. "I froze it Saturday night because we wanted to skate. I don't think I could do the whole thing when it's not the full moon, but I could get enough of it to skate on."

"Did you have snow where you're from?"

"Cool!" Molly said then shook her head. "No. It never snows there. It very rarely gets that cold."

"I would be okay with that," Katara said thoughtfully. "At least for a little bit and then I'd be missing the snow and ice."

"I wouldn't mind snow so much if it wasn't so cold!" Molly said.

Katara giggled. "Hot snow coming up?"

Molly giggled. "I know it's silly. The weather in California is just so much different from here, I'm not used to it."

"California's by the ocean though right?" Katara asked, thinking she remembered that explanation. "So you at least have that?"

Molly grinned. "Yeah, I like the ocean."

"Me too. I'm glad Fandom's by the ocean. I'd miss it too much, I think." She thought for a second. "Yep, definitely would miss it too much. Why did you end up coming to Fandom? If not for the weather..." Katara teased.

Molly chuckled. "After our parents died, me and my friends got made wards of the state, that means the government would decide where we all lived, and they split us up." She would explain about her parents if Katara asked, but it was easier just to skip it for now.

"So, we all ran away and hid out. My friends were finally old enough that they wanted to go to college, but I wasn't old enough. We told the government people that we would quit being runaways if I could pick what school I went to. I picked here because it didn't matter to them that I hadn't been in school for three years."

"I'm sorry about your parents," Katara said seriously. "My mother died when I was little too. It's awful of your tribe to try to take away your friends too. I would have run away too if someone tried to take away Sokka or Aang."

"Thanks," Molly said. "I'm sorry about your mom too."

"Thank you." Katara smiled back at Molly. "So, food. We should get food."

And there was food having and giggling and assorted other gossiping.

For those who like it quiet.
