Lumiere's staff had finally fallen into the swing of things at the Café Fina, and, despite the random scorch-marks that tended to inexplicably show up every now and then, the place seemed to be in fantastic working order. Granted, that little saucer and her cook companion still hadn't shown up for work, but Lumiere wasn't one to get upset over such minute little things. Anymore.
After all, there were visitors on the island, and that meant... Guests!
The serving staff was perhaps a little obsessed with the thought of having guests in the café.

The specials board today read:

French Fries, French Onion Soup, French Toast

Some smart-alec napkin had scribbled hastily underneath:

French Kisses

Lumiere wasn't about to argue with that logic, really.

[OOC: Café Fina is open! Mod the dinnerware and feel free to make out on tabletops. Or... whatever you'd like to do with the dinnerware. They're hot. Honest. Note- I will be going out at some point during the day, so interaction threads with Lumiere or the plates might have to come to a temporary pause until I return from my ~~french kissing~~ dateomg.]

He likes French kisses and thinks that they should be on the menu more often.

Walter had come into Cafe Fina because he had no classes on Wednesday and he wanted to see what the new proprietor was doing.

He was... ~~gobsmacked~~ ~~flabbergasted~~ ~~freaked out~~ gobsmacked.

He was also not French kissing the candle guy.

"Why, 'allo there!" Lumiere waved a big, friendly hello to the newcomer- who technically worked for him, but he didn't know that. He was getting used to employing the cutlery to do the work of the missing saucer, after all, and the kitchen staff had taken the boards off of the door just long enough to allow the cheese grater to slip through to assist in the preparation of meals. "'Ow can I help you?"

"My name is Walter Dornez." Walter looked at the candle guy and decided shaking hands was right out. "I worked for Mr. Pennyworth."

"Ah, yes, 'ze distinguished gentleman who left me this fine establishment," Lumiere said with a fond nod. "Were you 'oping to keep zat job? I happen to still 'ave an opening, as a matter of fact."
He cast a momentary baleful look toward the fine-china-serving-staff.

Walter followed Lumiere's look with a raised eyebrow.

Did he really want to work here?

Call it a personal challenge.

"Ah... yes. I could do that, although my personal commitments would allow me to come down only one day a week. Will that suffice?"

Lumiere perked and nodded, his hands sparking perhaps a little. "What day is good for you??"
He might have been just a wee bit excited to have found a staff member who might not actually play the part of the spoon, running away with his dishes.

Walter would definitely not be running away with the dishes. No matter how hot they were.

"Actually, Wednesdays are usually quite good for me. I don't have any classes."

"Deal!" Lumiere held out his hand for a handshake, and then thought better of it after all, retrieving the candlestick at the end of his arm and smiling sheepishly. "When can you begin?"

Walter had even habitually half-stuck out his hand to shake before also reconsidering and pulling his hand back to brush his hair out of the way.

"Will next Wednesday work for you ~~since I have an appointment to be abused by furniture in the common room after this~~?"

"Next Wednesday will be fantastic," Lumiere agreed ~~because his mun sucks at updating and is very agreeable as a sort of penance~~. "I look forward to seeing you 'ere then, then."

And then Walter remembered...

Next Wednesday was Valentine's Day.

Oops.

"I... may have to put in a short day on Wednesday or my girlfriend will ~~mallet the heck out of me~~ be unhappy with me."

[ooc: I can still open and run the Cafe Fina post next Wednesday, but I just remembered that Walter and Nadia had made plans, so he'll be ducking out pretty much as soon as he's put in an appearance.]

Lumiere was thrilled that Walter had a girlfriend, actually. It meant that his staff would be remaining put.
"That is alright with me," he said with a wink and a nod. "If my own lady was around, I imagine 'zat she would insist 'ze same of me, as well."

"Right." Walter nodded decisively. "Then I will see you next Wednesday, Mr...?"

[ooc: Yeah, sometimes work eats my brain, body, and soul, but I can get posts put up and I marked a reminder on my calendar. I'm totally flexible on whether you want Lumiere in that evening or any evening for that matter. =) ]

"Lumiere," came the reply with a debonair grin and a bit of a bow. "Have yourself a good week."

Rikku was just walking past, but the sign made her giggle. She peeked in a bit nervously.

"Wow, is today French day?"

Lovely young lady alert!
Lumiere took a moment to assess if this particular madamoiselle would be a suitable missus for the Master before he replied, quite amiably.
"Ees today French day? Madamoiselle, half of 'ze staff is French! But if you wanted something else, we would be happy to cook it up for you regardless."

Rikku giggled. Something about his accent tickled.

"Oh! It's not a bad thing! All that stuff looks pretty neat. I was just wondering why everything was French Something or Other today. Or is that every day?"
