Selkie Cove: Friday

Despite the cold, Lana found herself out on the rocks at Selkie Cove. She was in town to pick up some stuff for Jim, but she knew he wouldn't mind her taking some time for herself - would encourage it actually.

So here she was, staring out at the ocean and just letting herself relax and her mind wander.

After the scene with Piper, Phoebe had needed to go somewhere and think... or avoid what had just happened. The fact that her sister wanted nothing to do with her hurt deeply. The best place she could think of to go and get herself pulled together before heading back to the Underworld was Selkie Cove.

Lana was lost in her own world, watching the beauty of the wind playing over the waves.

Phoebe hadn't expected anyone to be here, but then, she realized that she should have. She and Lana always seemed to be of like minds about this place.

"Lana?" Phoebe said hesitantly.

Lana spun around. "Phoebe? I've been so worried about you! Where have you been? Are you all right?"

Phoebe nodded slowly "I'm sorry you were worried, Lana. I'm okay. I've uhm... been in the Underworld."

Lana looked at her curiously. "You've been where? The Underworld? What exactly does that mean?"

Phoebe bit her lip. "Cole took me there to be with him. He's been accused of some stuff, Lana... and some things have changed."

Lana looked at her uneasily. "Accused of what stuff, Phoebe? Just how out of the loop have I been?"

"He can't come back here, Lana. He's been accused of being the one behind all of the attacks. Wyatt seems to think he's now the Source of All Evil."

Lana could feel her heart in her mouth. "And is he, Phoebe?" she asked very carefully.

Phoebe was silent for several moments.

"Cole isn't evil," she finally said slowly. "I would be dead if he was."

Lana clasped her hands together very tightly to keep them from shaking. "Then what exactly is going on, Phoebe. Soemthing's not right, I can tell. And you know you can trust me. No matter what, I'm going to stand by you."

Phoebe moved to the side, and extended her hand out over the water. She was very careful that the flames shooting from her hand wouldn't be a danger to her best friend.

Lana's breath caught. She didn't think Phoebe would ever hurt her deliberately, but this was... really unexpected. "So... that's new," she said carefully. "What's going on, Pheebs? You're starting to scare me."

Phoebe dropped her arm and looked at Lana sadly. "I never wanted you to be afraid of me, Lana. Piper already says I'm evil."

She shook her head. "I don't know how it happened. It just suddenly started on Sunday. Cole says it's because of the bond that he and I have." She sighed. "I admit that it helps in the defending my health department, it's just taking some time to get used to. As is this."

Phoebe flamed out and then flamed back in again.

"You're not evil, Phoebe," Lana said firmly. "I'd know if you were. But these sudden new abilities... something just seems wrong about them. And this Underworld thing..."

She hesitated and looked at Phoebe. "Why did Piper say you're evil?"

Phoebe bit her lip. "The fire stuff, and the fact that I am now Queen of the Underworld..."

Lana felt a shiver run down her back. "Queen of the Underworld? Like Queen to the Source of all evil?"

She rubbed her arms, feeling colder by the second. "Phoebe, that doesn't sound very good."

"It's not all bad," Phoebe said slowly. 'I'm able to still protect innocents... well, as long as others in the Underworld don't know about it too much. At least as his Queen I can keep him from doing anything bad..."

"But if they find out... Phoebe, you're in terrible danger." Lana was starting to feel a bit panicky. "This... oh, Phoebe, this is bad."

"Piper already threw potions at me today," Phoebe said. "She seems set on keeping me away... she told me to stay away from her and she has all of these potions made."

"That's terrible," Lana said. "She's your sister. How could she do that to you?"

"I guess since she thinks I'm evil she's decided to do whatever she can to make sure I'm not a threat to her."

"You're not evil," Lana said again. "But I'm afraid of what might happen to you if you stay down there. Who knows what could happen to you."

She thought for a minute. "Come to Mr Phale's house. You'll be safe there. He and Dr. Wilson won't let anything happen to you."

Phoebe shook her head. "It's too late for that now, Lana," she said quietly. "And Cole needs me. I'm all he's got and the only one he can trust." She looked sad. "I'm sorry."

"It's not too late," Lana said fervently. "It's never too late. How many times have we said that?"

But she could sense that she was losing here. "All right, all right, look," she said desperately, gathering up all of her courage. "Then let me go with you, watch your back. Let me help."

Phoebe's eyes glimmered ever so slightly at that.

"No," she said softly, but firmly. "I will not allow you to be around them down there. You are too good of a person and people up here need you, Lana. I need to know that you are still up here. Your place is up here and my place is down there...now." She ran a hand through her hair. "I have to go. Goodybe, Lana. I love you, Sister-Friend."

Phoebe gave her one last faint smille and then she was gone.

Lana took a step forward as if to grab her, to follow her the way she did Bel once, but she was too late. Phoebe disappeared right under her hands.

Lana brought her hands up to cover her face. "God, Phoebe, no... " She could feel the tears start and could only hope that this wasn't the last time she'd ever see her again.
