Annette and Ami were going shopping for their dance dresses, and Annette was excited. She had yet to leave the island and thought of this little shopping spree as a tiny adventure. 

Glancing over at Ami as they waited for the cab, she smiled and said, "Are you as excited as I am?"

"Well, how excited are you?" Ami grinned "Yeah i am. I have never gone shopping for a fancy party dress before..."

"Pretty dang excited." Annette said with a grin.

"You haven't?" That surprised her a little. Annette had a closet full of fancy party dresses. She just wanted a new one.

Ami shook her head. "No. Never needed one."

"Well, now you do and we are going to have fun shopping for them." The cab pulled up and both girls hurried in. It was so cold outside today!

Settling in, Annette said, "I will be so glad when spring gets here."

"Me too. The snow is pretty but i can do with no cold." Ami shivered a bit. "So what sort of dress are you looking for?"

"Red or black. Maybe one with both colors intermingled. Something appropriate for a Valentines Day dance. I also want to pick up something for Marco, a little thank you for asking me." She nodded with a smile.

"What about you? What sort of dress are you hoping to find?"

"Blue." Ami said certainly. "And flowy maybe?" She thought briefly. "is Marco the one that turns into a polar bear?"

Annette laughed. "Yes, that would be him although I never did get to see him as the polar bear. And blue and flowy sounds very nice. We'll need to get new shoes too. And maybe a manicure and pedicure." She grinned wide.

"There is a nice salon on the island, have you been? Theodoric's. They did these curl things with my hair a while back, i may need to do that again. Want to go tomorrow?" Suddenly Ami had a brilliant idea. "In fact, want to get a bunch of other girls and go as a group?"

"I haven't been, no, but I would like to check it out." Annette paused for a moment and thought about her plans for tomorrow. "Call me in the morning, not early cause I plan on sleeping in just a little." She grinned. "And then we'll see. A bunch of us girls going together might be totally fun!"

"Will do. So shoes too? You sure?" Ami was really new at this... She was rather glad she was going with an apparent expert.

She nodded. "You will have to have shoes to go with your new dress. And maybe new earrings. Do you wear jewelry, Ami?"

Ami's hand went to her ears. They were pierced, but had nothing in them. "Sometimes..."

"I will help you! And if it's a cost thing? I don't want you to worry at all. I would love to buy you something. And shopping for jewelry is always fun!" Laughing, she looked out her window. "Are we almost there?"

"No, i have the money, i just... never really thought of these things before." Ami felt like a horrid tomboy for some reason.

She looked out the window. "I think so. I think the shopping area is just a few blocks away."

Annette grinned, "I probably wouldn't have either, it's just that I, well, I was raised having to go to all sorts of society functions and balls."

She might have made a small noise that sounded like a squee. "Yay, cause I am ready to spend some money!"

"Wow, balls? I mostly went to school." Truth be told, Ami had never been to a dance before.

The cab stopped to let them out and ami handed the driver some cash.

"Here we are."

"I got the fare on the way back though, okay?" Annette asked with a gentle smile.

Stepping out of the cab, she pulled her coat more tightly around her and stared with a huge smile at the store in front of them. "Oh, Ami, this is going to be so much fun."

"Alright." Ami agreed. That seemed fair.

"I think so too. Lets go!" Ami stepped inside and just kind of stared at the fancy clothes.

After they entered, Annette said, "Come on, let's find our department. These are for older women." Linking her arm through Ami's, Annette wound through the department store until they came to the younger generation's gowns. Of which, there were tons.

"Oh, so many! Let's look, Ami!"

"Alright. Um, you are totally the expert here..." Ami looked a little lost.

Annette tilted her head and looked at Ami. The poor thing.

"All right, let's look for blue, something pretty that catches your eye, find it in your size and try it on. I'll help you." Since the dresses were already color zoned, it was not hard to make their way to the blue section, which was still large, but now easier.

"Okay, first of all, do you want long or short? Strapless or no straps?"

"I don't know? Nothing too horribly revealing." Ami said as she looked at a dress that seemed to be more a collection of straps.

"So maybe something with thicker straps over the shoulders?" Annette truly wanted to help, but she wanted Ami's input as much as possible so that they could find a dress she totally fell in love with.
