The Park, Friday Morning

After the previous day's talk with Phoebe and Lana, Aziraphale found himself feeling antsy. This standing back and watching events unfold wasn't sitting well with him, and the memory of being called to fight in HIS name not many months earlier made him wonder if it wasn't time to begin taking a more active role in the world.

Maybe it was time to remember that angels weren't just about comfort and good tidings.

So while Wilson worked on his latest journal article, Aziraphale headed out to the park. It was a cold day, but it didn't much matter to the angel. Neatly setting aside his coat and sweater on a bench, he unfurled his wings and called up his sword. Then he began methodically working a careful pattern of exercises meant to reacquaint himself with the weapon once more, blue flames running along the edges of the sword flashing in reflection off the bright white wings.


[ooc: Trying something different: Aziraphale is practicing swordwork, but he'll stop and talk if anyone approaches him. The park is also open for anyone's park-related needs.]

Ami was on her way to the Turtle and Canary store when she saw Aziraphale in the park. She promptly forgot what she was doing, and watched, her mouth open. Billy had told her that Mr. Pale was an angel, but she somehow wasn't expecting wings. So she stood and watched.

It took a while for Aziraphale to notice Ami, but when he finally did, he brought his exercises to an end and turned toward her. The flames around the sword flared and then the weapon vanished altogether, and he cocked his head.

"Are you all right, Miss Mizuno?"

Ami nodded and tried to speak. After a while she succeeded. Mostly. //"You... wings... buh?"// Just not in English.

"Oh," Aziraphale replied, in a language that may have sounded like English or Japanese and was probably both. "I'm sorry, I forget that there are still people who don't know. It seems like the gossip has gotten around to everyone these days."

John was on his way to Sparky's and stopped to look. And looked. And kept on looking, wondering why it looked like Tai Chi and karate and a dozen other forms, but not.

When a natural break presented itself, Aziraphale stopped what he was doing and banished the sword. Turning toward John, he nodded.

"Good day, Mr Connor. Is there something I can do for you?"

"Just wondering about your technique. There's about a dozen things in there that I recognize, and a bunch more I've never seen. Or variatons."

Aziraphale took a moment to ponder the question, and then gave a sheepish shrug.

"I'm not sure I could explain it. It's not really a matter of formal training, more just...instinct, I suppose."

Pippi was on her way back from J,GOB between classes when she notice Aziraphale in the park.

She stood and watched quietly for a moment.

After a bit, the angel seemed to notice Pippi's presence, and he completed the exercise he was doing and then looked in her direction. With a little smile, he banished the sword and then walked a few steps toward her.

"Good morning, Miss Longstocking."

"Good morning. Don't let me interrupt you."

Aziraphale nodded. "All right, if you're certain."

With another smile, he summoned up the sword again, and resumed his practice.

"Duuuuuuude." Jude clattered to a halt, a paper-wrapped flower of some kind tucked protectively under his jacket that was really far too light for this weather. "Awesome."

The 'dude' caught his attention, and Aziraphale brought his exercise to a pause and turned to look at Jude.

"Good morning, Mr Lizowski. Shouldn't you be dressed more warmly than that?"

"Huh? Oh, no, Mr. P, I'm good. Totally used to this weather." He did manage to look a little sheepish, though.

Nodding, because it wasn't like he was currently dressed for the weather himself, Aziraphale accepted that explanation.

"It's been a good while since I've seen you. Have you been well?"

Ellen had met the devil and two Greek gods since she'd been in Fandom, but that didn't mean she really expected to see what looked like an angel practicing with his burning sword in the park.

There might have been a little staring, just for a moment.

After a bit, Aziraphale concluded the exercise he'd been doing and stopped to rest for a moment. When he saw Ellen, he gave a little tilt of his head and a nod.

"Good morning, my dear," he called. "I don't believe we've met?"

"I don't believe we have, no," Ellen agreed, smiling slightly. "Ellen Harvelle. Moved here not too long ago still."

Clark was strolling through the park as he was prone to doing sometimes, and came across a very strange sight.

"Oh my."

As Aziraphale finished one set of exercises, he noticed Clark and turned to nod at him.

"Mr Kent," he called. "Good morning."

"Good morning." Clark returned. "That's, that's an impressive, er, sword." Even after all he's seen, a real Angel with a Flaming snerk sword was quite a sight.

Early afternoon

Wilson had finally hit a bit of writer's block and after spending half an hour on the same two words, he'd decided it was time to take a break.

So, putting some coffee in a travel mug, he bundled up against the cold and headed out across the park to find the angel. It didn't take him long and this was exactly why he'd been a good doctor and stayed in doors while Phale worked out because the sight of Aziraphale, wings extended for balance, sword working through the intricate patterns of parry and thrust...yep, the thoughts Wilson was having were not fit for public consumption.

Stopping a short distance away, he stood and watched and enjoyed the view.

Since Aziraphale pretty much always knew when the young doctor was close by, he worked his way toward the end of the current exercise and then turned to smile at Wilson. Banishing the sword, he crossed the distance to approach the other man.

"Goodness, I had no idea I'd been out here so long," he said, realizing from the position of the sun that it was already afternoon. "How is your writing coming, love?"

Really... Wilson was trying to be a good boy in the face of pure temptation.

Half naked, sweaty angel? Wilson quickly jammed his hands in his pockets to keep from touching.

"Hit a stumbling block." He said with a smile. "Enjoying yourself?"
