The Perk, noon, Tuesday

"Double cappuchino," Jake ordered glumly.

The barista handed over the order, and was starting to worry just a little bit. After all, even Jake didn't usually finish six mugs of coffee in 45 minutes.

Jake ignored the look and went back to his seat. He sprawled down and went back to reading, nervously tapping his fingers on the table.

Mac headed down to The Perk after computer science. She's so used to being down here on a Tuesday, that not paying a visit almost seems wrong now.

Jake looked up as she entered and waved vaguely. "Hi Mac."

Mac gave a smile and a quick wave back, and came over to see him once the barista had finished making her coffee.

"You are in a place of coffee, and yet, not looking perky," Mac commented. "This can't be good."

Jake looked up at her and frowned. "Um..." He hesitated, then shrugged. It was probably all over the radio anyway because Barbossa was an evil fiend. "Krycek and I kinda broke up."

Mac didn't say anthing for a moment, but her face fell. "Oh... Jake." She sat down at that, figuring company might be appreciated at this point. "I'm sorry... are you okay?"

"Eh," said Jake shrugging again. He gave her a small smile. "Yeah, no big deal, right?"

It was possible that he didn't exactly believe what he was saying.

Mac? Looking a bit skeptical right now. She knows damn well that she wouldn't be anywhere near okay if she'd just broken up with Cally.

"No big deal?" she repeated with a little frown.

"Had to happen sooner or later anyway, since we're graduating," Jake said, poking at his coffee with his spoon. "I mean, I guess..."

"I guess..." Mac said uncertainly. "Doesn't mean it isn't a big deal, though," she continued. "Is there anything I can do?"

Jake didn't want to talk about it. Because not talking about it always worked. He shook his head. "Not really. You can have coffee with me though?"

"I can definitely do that," Mac replied with a nod.

She fiddled with her mug for a moment, not quite sure what to say. "Don't you still share a room with him?" she asked quietly. She apparently doesn't get subtle 'don't want to talk about it' hints.

"Yeah, I do." Jake sipped his coffee. "I've applied for a room transfer, but I don't know when it'll go through."

Mac gave him a wan smile. "That... yeah, this must really suck." She's just chock full of eloquent phrasing today.

"You sure it's nothing that'll just blow over?" she asked hopefully.

Cally was on her way back to the dorms from Sparky when she spotted Mac and decided to stop in.

"Hey stranger," she said.

Mac grinned. "Yeah, it's been way too long," she said.

"Yeah, a whole, ummm, half hour, maybe?" Cally said.

"Hm." Mac nodded. "Felt like longer," she said. "Weird, that..."

"You want coffee?" she offered.

"I wouldn't say no," Cally said. "Specially if you're offering to treat me."

"Of course," Mac said, with a little smile. "I have to cram as much of that as possible in the next week or so. What do you want?"

"You know what I like," Cally said. "Surprise me."

"I'll see what I can do," Mac said, before standing and heading over to order.

She came back a few minutes later with a mint hot chocolate for Cally, vegan of course. "Ta-da. One not really caffeinated beverage especially for you. Enjoy."

"Awww, thanks," Cally said. She took a sip. "Oh, wow, awesome."

Mac smiled and sipped at her own coffee. "I guess I really do know what you like?" she said.

"You really do," Cally said, smiling. "Which is totally an awesome and great thing."

"Totally a skill to be proud of," Mac said with a little chuckle as she rubbed the handle of her mug absently.

"So, what brings you to this part of town?" she asked.
