The Perk, Thursday Evening

Sometimes, it just felt good to get out. Even if you're anti-social, like El.

He sat in a corner, sipping at a black coffee, and enjoying the silence.

Byron sits down not far away with his half-caf double-decaf decaffeinated half-caf with a twist of lime.

And a cranberry muffin.

Stacked on the table in front of him are a number of informative (but harmless) tomes on the occult. The coffee shop seems a nice peaceful place to work on his lesson plans. Separation of business and private life and all that.

"Good evening." Byron nodded, he remembered running into this man in the faculty lounge on occasion but hadn't socialized with him much. Actually, Byron didn't socialized much on the island.

Or anywhere else really.

"How are your classes proceeding?"

"I am indeed sir. I've seen you about, but I'm afraid I don't know what it is you teach."

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Defense Against Malicious Magic." He explained.

"Of course, how rude of me. Doctor Byron Orpheus." He said offering his hand.

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Pleasure to finally make your acquaintance."

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
"We moved around quite a bit in my youth. As I advanced in age, I became a citizen of the universe as it were..." Byron enunciated. "And yourself? Central or South America I should guess?"

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Long way from home for you sir."

[[ooc: me too. Night!]]

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"You must enjoy teaching very much to have come to such different climes."

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Kay." Byron said slowly.

Awkward.

"Are you enjoying the brief restbit of spring break?"

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Indeed. Though now I'm playing a little bit in the way of catch up for the coming week. I was going to have some friends come over to guest lecture but neither one seems to be available."

"Weeell, Jefferson Twilight got a lead on a particularly troublesome blackula, and The Alchemist apparently forgot he was grand marshaling some parade or other..."

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-03 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
"You know, I've never asked. But the vampires Jefferson hunts can not be killed by any means other then the removal of their heads... Which does make them something of a sub-group among vampires... Whether this has to do with their heritage before they are turned or a particular vamperic bloodline that just happens to only turn people of color is unclear..."

Hmm, maybe he should do a class specifically on vampires.

On a scale from Bunnicula to...

"You're very lucky in that." Byron. "They tend to be pretentious and tiresome."

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-03 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Some are more difficult then others."

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-03 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"With the Blackulas, you have to remove their heads." Byron explained. "As I said. Some vampires have what we in the business call 'crepe paper rib cages'."

He said this with finger quotes and everything.

"Meaning that anybody of average strength with a wooden pencil can pierce the vampire's heart and reduce them to dust. Getting near enough to do that can be very dangerous indeed, but it's possible for the average Joe to get lucky."

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-03 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
"In general, whatever you have, you'll need a bigger one. Or specialized ammo."

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-03 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
"The problem with guns, you see, is that they are designed to dispatch the living and we are very fragile beings. For the most part, the best one could hope for with a gun, is to slow the creature down. So you'll want the largest caliber possible."

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-03 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Byron gave that some thought.

"How is your faith these days Sinor?"

[identity profile] bluewindbreaker.livejournal.com 2007-03-03 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
"You would likely have better use of it then most then. I would suggest something tangible to carry on your person rather then relying on a pair of sticks or fingers."
