The Perk - Thursday Late Morning

Since the rain from the night before had left the ground too damp to dig in with any effectiveness, Wilson decided to take himself down to the Perk that morning.

No real reason except he was hoping to maybe score some free coffee...hey, it might happen!

Coffee in hand, he found a comfortable chair to claim as his own and flopped down into it. He had some last minute details to read over regarding the field trip coming up but other than that he was infinitely disturbable.

[ooc: Perk is open like an open thing, Wilson is perfectly annoyable.]

Marie stopped by the Perk to get a cup of hot chocolate on her way to work. After getting her cup, she walked over and sat down across from Dr. Wilson.

"Hey."

Looking up from where he was reading, Wilson smiled warmly at Marie and closed his magazine.

"Hey there, Marie. How are you doing?"

"Not too bad," Marie said, smiling back. "Looking forward to the weekend."

"It should be a good time, you know...in between the actual learning parts." Wilson winked.

Marie giggled. "I think it will definitely be fun," she agreed.

"So, do I want to know what you have planned or as your guardian and chaperone is it better that I can deny all knowledge until after the fact?" Wilson asked sitting back and sipping at his coffee and trying not to think of national monuments.

Once inside, she turned to Henry and smiled, where would you like to sit? I usually choose a table near the window, but since you've never been here before, I would like for you to be comfortable. Sit where you like and I'll follow."

"A table by the window is fine. It's always nice to be able to see the sky."

"It is, isn't it?" She said, moving towards a nice little table by the window.

After they were seated, a waitress ~~handwavily~~ came by to take their orders, and when Annette was settled comfortably, she asked of Henry, "So, Cally is your big sibling?"

Henry nodded. "Yes. I really don't call on her often enough. She was very kind and welcoming to me. You're acquainted, then?"

She grinned, nodding, "She's my roommate."

Henry perked up at that. "Oh! Then of course you know her."

"That I do, Henry." She smiled. "She told me you had a...significant other?" Yes, Annette, get right into the nitty gritty and ask whatever the heck you want!

Henry nodded, and couldn't keep the smile off his face. "Emma Carew, my fiancee."

"Your fiance? But you are so young yet!" That shocked her. Yep. It did.

Henry withdrew a little. "Well, it is a little early, yes. And we haven't been officially announced. But it is assumed that we'll marry someday. That's just the way things are."

"I see. So you plan to marry someday though not any day in the very near future? You must really love her to already make such a committment." Annette did not yet sense any change in Henry.

Henry had a thoughtful look on his face. "Well, I certainly like Emma. We've been friends since childhood. I don't know if I love her, but I suppose we'll grow to love each other." As he finished, he had a little smile on his face, as if he'd solved some difficult equation. In his head, he'd wrapped up the problem rather nicely.

"Umm, pardon me if I am being a little too inquisitive here, but aren't you supposed to love someone before you marry them?"

Henry chuckled. "Perhaps if you're in an opera." Henry got serious. "No, I know that some couples do marry for love, and I admit that it's a very important element. I would certainly call things off if I thought that there was a chance that Emma and I wouldn't fall in love.
Ifeel closer to her than anyone I know, and I certainly fancy her. The only step missing is the ability to label said affection as love."

Annette was trying not to become confused here. "How...often do you see her?"

Henry looked a little down. "Well, I used to see her quite often. Every day. Now that I have come to Fandom, I cannot see her very frequently at all."

And Annette figured that was extremely hard for him. Saved by having to say anything at the moment, their orders arrived and she smiled at him as she lifted her cup of white chocolate mocha.

"Everything will work out as it should with you and Emma, Henry. I'm sure of it."

Henry nodded, and took his tea. "And what of you, Annette? Do you have a beau?"

She thought for a moment and remembered her conversation with Mac in her room this morning before Henry arrived. "I suppose not. I mean I could, I guess. But I don't think so...yet." It was not a yes or no answer with Annette it seemed.

Carefully, she took a sip of her mocha.

Henry stirred some lemon into his tea. "Best of luck, whichever way you hope things go."

"Thank you, Henry." Annette felt pretty lame in her answer but she was still so fickled about the whole thing. Best not to think about it.

She picked up her fork and took a small bite of her blueberry muffin.

"Do you have any classes today, Henry?" She asked, after swallowing.

"I've already had mine," Henry said, and nearly took a sip of tea. He stopped, and looked at her, surprised. "You don't have any soon, do you? You aren't late, are you?"

She smiled assuring him, "Not until fifth period, so I am good, Henry. What did you have this morning?"

(*kicks lj* notifications are wayyy slow in coming!)

He relaxed. What a worrywart. "I had anatomy with Dr. Reid. It's easily my favorite subject."

"I would imagine so, with you wanting to study medicine." She took another sip of her tea.

"So what aspect of medicine, really Henry, are you interested in? You mentioned creating new medicines?"

Henry nodded. "I'm very facinated with mental illnesses, and the way they're physically triggered. That will be my area of specilization: the brain."

"The brain. Wow. I am really impressed. You do any studying in your room? Labwork? That sort of thing has always interested me." She said, thinking about it. "Not to do, actually, but to watch. Maybe I could watch you sometime?"

Henry tapped his teaspopn against the saucer, trying to think of something that would be safe to watch.
"Well, you could come sometime when I'm distilling, but I'm afraid that it isn't very exciting." He gave a chuckle. "None of it is exciting, really. I'm still learning the scopes of certain chemicals."

"Distilling. No. I know a little about that. I think. With water and all."

She perked up. "Do you have chemical in your room?" Oooh chemicals in which to make things? Things that would aid her in her spy stuff?

Ooh, trouble. Henry shook his head. "I do keep chemicals in my room, but they're very common. You could pick them up at any apothecary."

"Really? Hmm, I had never considered that." But what chemicals could Annette use for any sort of spy stuff? She had no idea. She was really lost on that sort of stuff.

"Do you like The Perk so far, Henry?" Annette changed the subject. Best not to talk about something that truthfully she would not be able to mess with. Chemicals kind of scared her.

Henry finished his sip of tea. "Yes. It has a very welcoming atmosphere."

"Good." She smiled warmly. "I think it is cozy and comfortable and just relaxing when you want a little time away from school."

"What are you doing this weekend, Henry? Any big plans?"

Henry shook his head. "Nothing in particular. I do have a fair amount of work to do, though. Yourself?"

"School work?" She asked with a tilt of her head.

"Going on a field trip to New York City. I leave tomorrow around three and won't be back until Sunday. Should be all kinds of fun." She grinned.

"How fun!" Henry grinned. "Have you been there before?"

"Oh yes, a few times." Yes, she was a spoiled rich kid. "And I love it. Don't know if I would want to live there. But I do enjoy visiting it. Have you ever been there?"

Henry shook his head. "Living at Fandom marks my first time overseas. I've taken plenty of holidays around Europe, but never traveled anywhere in the Americas."

"Perhaps one of your classes will have a field trip and you will get to experience a bit of American culture. Would you like that?" She asked, and took a sip of her mocha.
