Trooper Station - Friday Evening

The troopers hadn't expected action on a Friday night action is what they got. After the gunfire in the park, they realized that tonight wouldn't be a slow after all.

They brought Aeryn in, guns pointed just in case she became aggressive and escorted her into a cell.

The door clicked shut with a clink.

In thirteen months, Aeryn's been arrested three times. She does not like this tendency. She especially does not like it when a manipulative madman with a habit of sticking chips in people's brains is running loose and she can't do anything about it. She's also spent enough time in Criminal Justice classes and in front of the television to know she gets one phone call.

After that's done, she's left doing either one of two things: pacing in her cell, or occasionally trying to push the door open, which just isn't going to happen.

After his unsettling encounter at Caritas, John came running into the station, out of breath and looking frantic.

Aeryn had been sitting in her cell, standing as soon as she sees him. "I told you to stay in the dorms," she greets him.

"Are you all right?" John asked, ignoring the question. "Damn it, are you all right?"

"Fine," she says. She may have given herself a blister trying to get the door open. "You?"

"Did he do anything to you?" John asks frantically, pressing himself against the bars. "Did he touch you?"

"No," she says, frowning. "The only time he even got close was when I hit him with a pulse pistol, and then the troopers arrived."

He breathes a little, banging his head against the bars.

"Don't do that," she tells him. "What happened?"

"I had a talk with Scorpius," he tells her, not looking at her.

Aeryn sets her jaw. "What happened," she repeats.

"I just argued with him," he says.

"And that's all?" The last time he said they'd just talked, he had a chip stuck in his brain.

"He told me I was just a hobby, a toy," he mumbles. "I threatened to kill him a few times."

What kind of worries her is that she can almost see him following through with that. Or attempting to, anyway. "And that's all?"

He shifts around uncomfortably. "Yeah."

"What?" she asks warily, noticing that.

"Nothing," he says and shakes his head.

"No, what," she insists.

"Told him I'd kill myself if it meant he'd leave you alone," he mumbles very, very quietly.

For a moment she can only stare at him, not sure she heard him right. And then she's wishing she had another phone call so she could tell Rory or someone not to let him out of her sight. Shaking her head, she tells him very simply, "No."

He doesn't answer, doesn't look at her and barely even moves.

She tries to find his hand through the bars and says, "We'll find a way out of this."

"Right," he says, not really convinced.

"We will," she says. "I mean that."

"Will you be okay here tonight?" John asks, sidestepping the assurance.

She nods. "I'll be fine." And then more cautiously, "Will you?"

"Yeah," he says, looking tired and weary. "I should go though before the troopers drag me out."

"When you get back to the dorms," she says, "stay there. He can't get to you there. And he can't get to me in here."

"I will," he says, really just wanting to sleep. "I promise."

"Okay," she says, not really believing that. "I love you."

"I love you too," he says, smiling a little before turning to walk out of the station house.

When he's gone, Aeryn kicks at the bars like that's going to help. Yeah, she won't be sleeping tonight.
