Fandom Post Office: Saturday (17/3)

Moist was part gleeful, part not, as he opened the post office.

New employees? Good. An apparent lack of penguins? Also good.

But he had been hoping to attract a few more workers for the glorious post office, so he decided to leave the posters up and extend recruitment for another day.

Once more, the post office was hiring!

[ooc: Okay! Got room for two more people to work at the post office. Same deal as yesterday: ping in and ICly get hired, ping into OOC and get handwavily hired, (especially if your character is off the island). Sokka, I'm looking at you - one's yours, if you still want it! Now I go sleeps - up in a few hours.]

Sokka peered in the door, and then walked up to Moist.

"Is this the place for the fame and fortune?" he asked.

Moist looked up and hid a grin. This should be easy. "Fame and fortune and everything in between," he confirmed. "The postal service is a true and noble calling. Think you're up to the challenge?"

"Pffft. I'm up to any challenge you've got, so long as you're not lying about that 'fortune' part." Sokka gave him an odd look. "How hard can it be to deliver mail, anyway?"

"In this place? It can be a challenge. I delivered a package to a god last week. You can look after those from now on, if you take the job." He made his smile a challenge, and came out from behind the counter to gesture around the building. "The post office has a life of its own, there's a machine in the back that sends and receives mail across time and space, and have you met Gladys?"

"Yeah, I can handle the god-packages, if you're scared," Sokka boasted. "I do stuff like that all the time."

He looked around appraisingly. "Mmm-hmm. Mmm-hmm. Seems a nice place. Who's Glady--" Then he saw Gladys. "OH! What in the world IS that thing?"

Gladys looked up, and Moist beckoned her over. "That's Gladys, she's a golem. Say hello, Gladys."

Seven foot of very solid, roughly human shaped golem lumbered over, eyes flaring as she looked down at Sokka and obediently said, "Hello."

Sokka looked up at the golem and blinked. "Is she dangerous?" he asked.

"Not as a general rule, no. But," and Moist leaned forward, as if imparting a great secret, enjoying himself more than he'd expected to, "if you take the job? You get to tell her what to do. She's absolutely obedient."

Sokka's eyes widened. "AWESOME!" he shouted, and grabbed Moist's hand and pumped it. "It's a deal!"

Then he paused, worried.

"She's, not... like, a slave, is she?"

Moist carefully extricated his hand, smiling to himself That had been easy. But the golem question was a tricky one. "Not a slave, no," he said, choosing his words carefully. "Golems are complicated. They were built to do all the jobs that people don't want to do. They're made of clay, powered by magic, so they're basically tools, not really alive."

"Oh." Sokka bit his lip and peered up at Gladys again. "Do you talk?" he asked her.

Gladys stared down at Sokka. "I Talk. I Work. I Am Not A Slave."

"Awesome," Sokka said, patting her arm. "Awesome."

He turned back to Moist. "Do I get a nifty hat?" he asked.

A nifty hat. Moist had to laugh at that. All the things he'd called his hat, it had never occurred to him to call it nifty. "You get a nifty hat." He liked this kid, didn't think he'd ever met anyone quite so enthusiastic about everything. "I'll have it waiting for you next week."

"YOU," Sokka said, pointing at Moist, "have a deal."

Feeling extremely pleased with himself, he strode out of the post office.

Setsuna stepped into the post office with a letter she intended to send off to Mana about a potential job on the horizon, when she noticed the posters. She considered again the letter in her hand. With her here, jos were few and far between, so she was noticing that her money was either coming in from the Elder or draining out quickly. She looked back to the signs. And then to Moist, with a quirked eyebrow.

"Hiring?"

Moist gave her a slight nod and a friendly smile. "I am indeed. And I have one place left, though I expect it to fill quite quickly," he said. Right now, in fact, with a dash of luck and some well chosen words. "It's not a difficult job, but it is one with a great deal of responsibility. Interested?"

There was a long, considering pause. "...Perhaps," Setsuna said after a moment; she'd never had a real job before, not one that didn't involve killing people or infiltrating enemy bases. And it kind of intrigued her. "What would be required of me?"

"In practical terms? Deal with customers, watch the post office, sell stamps, tell Gladys what to do. But it's much more than that." He leaned forward. "The post office is about communication, by working here, you're helping people stay in touch. Plus, you get free postage, which will make those packages to Japan a bit cheaper."

That last bit definately caught her attention. "Interesting," Setsuna said, thoughfully. "I certainly believe I could manage something like that What would I have to do to get this said job?"

"Honestly?" he asked. "Promise you won't burn the Post Office down, and it's yours. I've been running this place on my own since I got here, and I'd love to have some time off."

Setsuna bowed in a rather formal manner as she announced, "I promise to you that, should I be under your employment, I shall not burn the Post Office down."

Somehow not really surprised by the formality, he inclined his head. "Consider yourself hired, then. Can you start next week on ~~a day to be determined, but not Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday~~?"

"Monday ? sounds perfect," Setsuna said with a nod as she straightened. "Thank you very much."

"Monday is perfect! We open at nine, so I'll meet you hear at 8:30, and ~~handwavily~~ show you the ropes."

"Very well; I shall see you then, sir," Setsuna said. "Thank you very much!" With another bow, of course.

What the heck. Moist returned her bow, doing a credible imitation of it - but he'd always been a very quick study - and said, "Thank you. I have a feeling the place will be in capable hands."

(I suspect she misses the penguins)

Drop off your letters. No eyes today.

So. Tired.
