Buffy was excited and nervous about her first 'real' day at work. She poked at the till while idly wondering if anybody would notice if she took just a few little trips into the back room to check out Mr. Giles' weapon's collection some more.

After talking to Parker, River continued her walk and passed by a new shop she hadn't seen before. She did recognise the person behind the till however, so she entered, grinning cheerfully at Buffy. "Hello!"

"River, hi! This is my new job," Buffy said proudly, straightening up where she was standing behind the counter.

"Oh." River glanced around the shop. "Selling anything I need?" It was probably a nice thing to do, buying something from the shop.

"I'm not really sure what's here yet," Buffy admitted. She looked around the shop. "There's, um, books and candles and animal eyes that I'm not sure if are animal eyes or really weird plants and I'm not going to ask. Oh! And some pretty crystals and stuff!"

River wasn't really interested in pretty crystals so she picked up a jar of animal's eyes and examined in curiously. "Expensive?" she asked.

Buffy came out from behind the counter to see what River was holding. "I don't think so? There should be a price tag somewhere." She gave the jar a doubting look. "You wouldn't try to feed them to Bertie would you?"

"Not Berthold-food. Possible present for Simon. He'd find it quaint." She placed the jar on the counter. Then a smile appeared on her face as she picked up pieces of information from Buffy's mind. "There are weapons?"

Buffy bounced a little, grinning back. She was used to River just knowing stuff. "Yes! In the back. They're not as shiny as ours, of course," she added loyaly, "but they're very cool."

River returned the grin. "Show me?"

Buffy looked around the shop. There weren't anyone there but her and River at the moment. "I don't know... Can you tell if anyone turn up to, like, buy stuff?"

River nodded. "Unless they're far away," she replied.

"Okay then." Buffy brightened and waved for River to follow her to the back. "'Cause I don't think leaving the shop unattended is a good thing in employer's eyes."

"Probably not, but don't worry," River said, following Buffy into the room at the back. "A reason for weapons?"

Buffy paused. "He... didn't really say. And, uh, I got a little distracted so I didn't ask."

She pushed open the door, letting River get distracted as well.

River blinked, getting quite distracted. "Oh. Can we try them?" she asked.

Buffy was very tempted, but she shook her head. "I think I'd have to ask Mr Giles first. I don't want to get fired before I've barely started."

River could see the point in that and nodded. "Am impressed though. Good place to work. And I still want the animal's eyes."

Dawn? Still had way too much energy, and didn't want to return to the room right away because that way led to jumping Sam and tackling him to the floor. So, she was taking another walk around town, wishing she had someone to talk to about this whole sex thing.

Lo and behold, there was Buffy behind the register. A Buffy who wouldn't kill Sam and lecture about tape lines and being too young and possible Gypsy curses. Dawn did a quick Giles check through the window and walked in when she didn't see him. "Hiya. You're working here?"

Buffy beamed. "Yup! I just asked for a job and I got it!" She lowered her voice a little. "And in the back? Mr Giles has a really awesome weapon's collection."

Dawn smiled back, thrilled for Buffy and trying to hide her worry about what this would do to Giles. "That doesn't surprise me. You're, um, getting along okay? With him, I mean?"

"Well, we've only met, like, twice, but I think so?" Buffy paused. "He kinda looks at me funny sometimes though." She grinned at Dawn. "So how are you today? You're looking sorta bouncy."

"Oh, that's good," Dawn knew Buffy needed a Giles in her life. "And don't mind him. He kinda looks at everybody funny." If he wanted to tell her about his Buffy, that would be up to him.

"I'm..." she blushed, uncharacteristically unable to get the words out, "good," she finished lamely. "Really good."

Buffy narrowed her eyes at the blushing. She sensed some good kind of gossip type thing here. "What kind of 'really good'? Spill it."

"I...Sam and I..." Maybe she wasn't as brave as she thought. "We...he didn't turn into a vampire the next day, okay!"

Which Dawn would realize later would have made sense to anyone from Sunnydale except the person she'd blurted it to.

"Well, that's good," Buffy said slowly, staring at Dawn in confusion.

"Yup!" Dawn said smugly, but relieved she didn't have to explain further. "Girls definitely get the raw end of the deal, though."

"What deal?" Buffy stared more. "What are you talking about?"

Dawn blinked. "Me. And Sam. We..." she leaned forward, and whispered, "you know."

"I really don't," Buffy said blankly. She paused. "Oh. Oh! Ooooh."

She nodded. "Uh huh."

"What was it like?" Buffy asked, leaning over the counter. and wondering why she suddenly want to buy roll of tape.

"It was...nice," Dawn said shyly, even as she realized how big an understatement it was, then added, "Except for the pain part. I could have done without that."

"More good than pain though?" Buffy asked hesitantly. Her own experience came mainly from Cosmopolitan.

Buffy grinned. "So doing it again is, like, on your schedule?"

"I don't know that there's a schedule," Dawn blushed even harder and started playing with her hair, "but, yeah, doing it again is definitely going to happen."
