The Fourth Sin, Tuesday Night [OPEN]

The first thing Jarod noticed upon getting to work was the tape outline in the middle of the lobby. It was one person, in a position he hadn't thought could be taped. Then he spotted the tub of water next to the outline, with a few ice cubes still floating in it.

What on earth did the girls get up to while he was away? Maybe he didn't want to know.

Once he had dumped out the now-lukewarm water, he got down on his hands and knees with a paint scraper, peeling up the tape and hoping he wouldn't have to refinish the hardwood.

ETA: After Lana left, Jarod roamed around for a while, poking into boxes and closets and cupboards and bathrooms and realized where he was, and what he must be pretending to be. "These clothes will never attract the right clientele," he said, glancing down at his jeans and shirt.

After a quick rummage through some of the male clothes that had been stolen, leftover, or that he'd forgotten when he moved out belonged to other employees, Jarod was now dressed in a pair of soft, worn, button-fly jeans that were just a bit tight and sat low on his hips and a white wife-beatersleeveless undershirt and bare feet and he was lounging on one of the couches.

A little forward, but that's not bad. "Are you flirting with me?" she asks, totally innocently.

"I must not be doing it right if you can't tell," he teased.

"I'm being cute, you dork," she tells him, smiling a little.

"Yes, you certainly are," Jarod wasn't sure how aggressive to be here, since he didn't remember his Pretend objective but he also didn't want to scare her off.

"What, did you miss me that much since yesterday?" she asks. Not that she minds.

"Yesterday?" Jarod didn't remember yesterday, but he tried to cover. Maybe she was a regular customer. "Of course I missed you. How could I not?"

There's just something not entirely right, but she's not sure what. "Did you do something you should be in trouble for?"

"Not yet," he leaned in to kiss her.

She kisses him back, still not sure where this is coming from. "Good day?" she asks,smiling when she pulls back a little.

"Getting better," he smiled at her, "What about you?"

"I'm not bored anymore," she grins.

"I'm glad I could cure your boredom," he said, then slid an arm around her waist, "I promise I only get better."

She slips her arms around him, but points out, "You do realize we're in a brothel."

"I do realize that. It means there's privacy upstairs."

"And the ninja won't skin me alive for not having to pay and also you being on the clock and oh my god I actually just said that?"

"Why wouldn't you have to pay?"

Jaye blinks at him. A couple times.

"What?"

"Did you fall and hit your head like in some bad 80's sitcom?"

This is not the first time she's asked that question in Fandom.

"No, of course not. I work here. What else would you have come to a brothel for?"

"To see you," she says slowly. "Because last I knew you weren't making the big bucks."

Hmmmm. He'd have to fix that. Maybe there was something wrong with his approach. "I must have to ask the owner for a raise."

"Um," Jaye says. "Okay, let me try it this way. You didn't get switched with someone else or anything, right? What's your name?"

"Jarod," he said, wondering what this was about. "And you are?" He'd lose his tip for not remembering her name, but hopefully she wouldn't leave.

She frowns, reaching up to feel his forehead.
