Luke's Diner, Thursday

Not-Prom. It totally made sense for them to go to Not-Prom, right? Totally. So Jude should ask. Which might be weird, 'cause of the whole . . . yeah, thing. With the stuff.

Appropriately enough, country music was playing in the diner today and the specials board looked something like this:

"I ain't no high class broad, I'm just a product of my raisin' . . ."

Cally came in and sat down. "Veggie burger?" she asked.

"Can do, bra," Jude said mellowly, distracted from his yee-hawing and hell-yeahing.

"How ya doin, Jude?" Cally asked, awaiting her food.

"Could be worse," he said, lifting one shoulder in a half-shrug as he headed for the grill.

"That doesn't sound too good," Cally said.

"Well, things aren't really bad any more," he said, gesturing with a flipper. "But they're not, like, the best ever. So yeah."

Cally frowned. "I'm sorry," she said. "You... need a hug?"

He flipped the burger and stepped towards her. "I never say no to a hug," he said, Zenly.

Cally stood up and gave Jude a big hug. "I find them very therapeutic."

"Totally," Jude agreed, hugging her back.

Cally smiled and pulled out of the hug. "So, you use vegetable oil in the fryer?" she asked.

"Uh huh," Jude replied, checking on her burger. "100% canola, changed it myself."

"Perfect," Cally said. "I'll take some fries too, then, please. The whole vegan thing is harder to keep up than you'd think."

"Nah, I know it's pretty tough. My first girlfriend was vegan."

Cally smiled to herself. "Mine too," she said.

"Yeah. Starr was always tryin' t' get me to go vegan too, but I totally like chicken kebabs too much," Jude said with a chuckle as he slid the burger onto a bun. "The works, or what?"

"Just cheese and lettuce," Cally said. "I kinda had to go vegan for Mac. It just seemed like the right thing to do."

Jude delivered her a plate heaping with fries and the requested burger. "Here y' go, bra. Maybe if I had tried harder to be what Starr wanted she wouldn't've dumped me."

Cally frowned. "Now that's a little unfair to yourself," she said, poking at her food.

"Nah. But I guess everything worked out pretty good in the end, so I'm not complainin'."

"Oh, okay," Cally said. "You.. want to talk about whatever it was? That got you down?"

"Nah, it was kinda my fault anyway . . . well, and Lana's. Not Lana's, that witch or whatever she was for a while."

*hums* 'Cause I'm a . . . CURSE YOU, JUDE!
