Stuff For Sale, Late Thursday Morning

Angela had left shopping for prom to the last possible minute -- her birthday -- but was relieved to find Stuff for sale didn't seem to be sold out.

Though that didn't make the dresses attractive. She giggled at some bad ones as she flipped through the racks, pulling dresses she liked as well.

After his conversation with Janet, Cameron needed a distraction. Prom was the best one he could think off and he really had been putting off buying his tuxedo this year. He kind of hating the whole buying clothes thing, but his mother had given him an earful when he'd vaguely mentioned recycling his costume from last year. So tuxedo buying it was.

He made his way through the women's department when he spotted Angela going through the racks and grinned. "And here I was thinking girls were supposed to have arranged their dress ages ago," he said in way of greeting, quite possibly looking to get killed.

"But if you procrastinate, stuff goes on sale," Angela said, grinning. "Hi, Cam."

She held up one dress. "Do you think this is too plain?"

Cameron shook his head. "Nah. I like simple," he said, wearily casting a glance at the pink thing beside him.

Angela followed Cam's gaze. "Yeah, simple's better than ruffles," she said. "Or naked. I don't want to go to prom half-naked."

"Hey, there are going to be gondolas," Cameron pointed out. "It would make skinny dipping really easy."

Angela stopped looking at the dress and turned to look at Cam, raising an eyebrow. "You think we'll have skinny dipping at prom?"

Cameron held up his hands. "I'm really hoping it won't be a social event but if you and Marty get bored with dancing..." he trailed off. "To each their own and everything."

"We are not going to get so bored we take off our clothes. At least not in public," Angela vowed, blushing. "Is Veronica coming up for the weekend?"

"Yep," he beamed. "And I promise that any nakedness won't happen in public either."

"Great," Angela said. "Both that she's coming out and the ... other thing." She tilted her head to one side. "So you guys have been long-distance basically all year."

"Yep. It actually was our half year anniversary last week," he said. "I don't know, a year ago I would have found the whole concept ridiculous, but it worked out."

"The 'you and Veronica' concept, or the 'dating someone in California' concept?" Angela asked.

A dress caught her eye, and she held it up. "I can't decide if this is really amazing or hideous."

"I..." he blinked, gaping at the dress a little. "First thought hideous, but once you get over the shock it gets better," he supplied helpfully.

"But I mostly meant the dating someone in California part," he remembered to answer the question.

"I like that it has a bird on it," Angela said, putting the dress back on the rack. "That's just strange."

A small smile crossed her lips. "I'm trying to figure out if Marty and I should even try after graduation," she admitted. "The time thing is kind of big."

"Strange is good, I like strange," he commented.

"I miss Veronica like crazy when she's not around," he admitted, leaning against a rack of fugly, but soft dresses. "But I haven't regretted it one minute. It's worth it."

"That's really, really nice," Angela said, with a crooked, thoughtful smile. "Thanks, Cam."

She reached back into the dresses, pulling out a blue frilly thing and discarding it just as fast. "So are we supposed to wear masks, to go with the theme?"

"I'm not sure," Cameron frowned. "Maybe? I wasn't really planning on buying, but it could be cool? Unless you accidentally grab the wrong date."

"That could be fun too, though," Angela argued. "Especially since we'll all probably be able to tell who everyone else is anyhow."

"That's because you don't have a lookalike running around," he pointed out.

"True. But if John tried to flirt with anyone, Aeryn would kill him. And her. And possibly a few innocent bystanders," Angela argued. "Veronica would just Taser everyone."

Cameron laughed. "It's bad that I want to see that now, isn't it?"

Angela's eyes danced. "It would be really bad for you guys to try to trade places and see how fast they noticed," she said. "But I kind of want to see that too, now."

"We did that once when I was still seeing Vala, but strangely enough they weren't all too impressed," he confessed. "I think I'm a bit too excited about this weekend to risk getting tasered."

"It would probably be more fun if you stay out of the clinic," Angela admitted. "Still, it's such a lost opportunity."

"Maybe with homecoming?" he suggested. "Unless you're planning on immediately forgetting all about this place and never coming back." Yeah, he was being dramatic.

"I hadn't really thought about homecoming," Angela admitted. "I don't even know if I can stay for the summer, but I hope I can."

"Summer's a no for me," he said. "I'll be in Basic Cadet Training." He looked rather pleased about that too.

"Congratulations," Angela said. "I mean, if I'm here, I'll miss you? But that sounds really good for you. Do you leave right after graduation?"

"Probably yeah," he nodded. "Give or take a week. And it's definitely good as it's how you start at the Academy."

"Good luck," Angela said quickly. "If I go? It'll just be to earn money for college. My dad asked me if I wanted to be a hostess in his restaurant for the summer."

"You see yourself doing that?" he asked, it was an honest question. "Does Marty know what he's going to be doing?"

"I can manage it for a summer," Angela said, though she didn't seem thrilled by the idea. "It's way, way better than waitressing, and I don't have to wear a uniform."

She gave a crooked smile. "Marty and I have been kind of ignoring the future."

"Well if Marty sticks around on the island, you could always see about getting a job here," Cameron pointed out. "I'm working at the diner. It's uniform free, but it's waitressing so I don't know if you'd be interested in picking up my shift."

"I'll think about it," Angela promised, turning back to the racks of dresses and pulling out a violet one. "Oooh, this? is gorgeous."

Cameron smiled and tilted his head as he looked at the dress. "Very classy," he nodded.

"I'm going to go try it on," Angela decided, inspecting the beading. "Did you find a tux?"

"Uh, no you got me distracted," he motioned towards the men's section. "I might have more luck there."

"Possibly," Angela agreed. "Though you could try the dress with the bird if you wanted."

Cameron laughed and started heading for the men's section. "Hmmmm, maybe for the next dance."

"I'll remind you before Homecoming," Angela shot back before going toward the dressing room. "See you around."

He nodded. "Holler if you need a manly opinion," he said, starting to look through the racks.
