Sunday Morning: The Park [4-22-07]
It was a lovely day, so Millie decided to take herself out to sit by the duck pond. She brought along some books and a thermos of tea and a few nibbles so that she wouldn't have to return until she was good and ready. Proudfoot, of course, came along too, wishing desperately to chase the birds and squirrels, but behaving herself. For now.
[OOC: The Park is open as parks are. Feel free to come chat with Millie.]

When she reached the pond she noticed a woman she didn't recognise, accompanied by a cat. River approached quietly, observing the cat and the woman, head tilted.

Millie's mind was fairly open, at least surface-wise, presenting as a cheerful young woman, but with a sense of great power behind it. She smiled up at River. "Not terribly polite, that," she said.

Proudfoot, on the other hand, just purred happily under River's hand.

"I can see why that might be true," Millie said, thoughtfully. "I assume this is some sort of natural ability as I sensed no spell or inherent magic. Quite fascinating. And you're welcome to look at my surface mind if that makes you more secure. I have nothing to hide there." She smiled at her welcomingly.

"Can't help looking," River explained. "Like listening: Loud enough and I can't help hearing." She looked at Millie. "No magic."

She thought for a moment. "I wonder if Gabriel or Christopher know anything that could help with that."

If River happened to be looking she'd see Millie's images of the stern Gabriel who'd taken her in and her friend, Christopher, who'd saved her in a way. And her complete trust in them.

River did pick up on Millie's memories of her friends. "Trust. Important." She smiled at Millie. "I've always had my brother." Except for at the Academy. "And this is a good place to make friends."

She smiled at River's other words. "It is indeed important. I had the priestesses at first, but Christopher was my first true friend. I haven't had time to make any true friends here, but I have met a few, like yourself that I hope might one day become that."

Proudfoot looked up at River. "She," she purred. "And yes, clever."
Millie broke into laughter. "Oh, she likes you, she does!"

"She rarely says that much," Millie told River, "And almost never to someone she doesn't know."
