The Devil's Nest, Monday Night

Lucifer was not behind the bar tonight. No, tonight it was Mazikeen's job to handle customers. She was less than thrilled.

Instead, he was sitting at the end of the bar, smoking a cigarette and being an annoyance to his ever lovely consort. It was a fun night.

That was actually just fine with the angel. He didn't like to think too hard on the idea of there being multiple versions of himself running about. Some thoughts were just better left undisturbed.

"He did the tempting, and I did the thwarting. Er, well...except that, you know...sometimes it was just...convenient to pick up a bit of slack for each other. Keep it all balanced out and all."

Lucifer raised an eyebrow. "And this was permitted by your superiors?"

Aziraphale turned a little pink.

"I always just thought...they really weren't paying us much attention. So long as the work got done, and all that."

"My counterpart must be terribly lax with his servants."

From what he'd heard, Lucifer's counterpart wasn't all that lax, but then Aziraphale had done his best to not have to deal with any of Below except Crowley. So he gave a little uncertain shrug.

"It's the beauracracy, I think. Pretty sure the mortals invented that one, 'cause it doesn't seem to do anybody any good no matter which side they're on."
