Movies in the Park, Wednesday Evening (04/25)

The weather is warming up but there's a chance of rain, so the tarps and awnings are back this week. Just before dusk, the temporary movie screen is set up. There's a large open area in front of it, where movie-goers can spread out blankets or set up lawn chairs. Some people are already gathered, picnicking while the sun sets.

[OOC: The movie begins at dusk, and the screen will be removed afterwards. OCD threads ~~will be~~ have been set up for your movie-going use. Anyone who needs the park for other purposes will find that the outdoor cinema takes up only a portion of the park, with plenty of space available for non-movie needs. Posted early today because I forgot the posters this week, and didn't want to forget this too. :/]

Talk with your friends, meet new people, hang out with your date, play with your dog. The film begins at dusk.

Ami arrived, and looked around for Billy.

He wasn't hard to find. He was the pirate. Sort of.

One of several on this island. Ami waved.

Billy smiled and made his way over to her. "Hey how are ya?"

"Two more finals down. One to go. You?"

"Two more left. And look," he pointed to the new wooden peg leg, carved to look like a claw clutching a sphere. "Fancy new leg."

"Oooh. Pretty. No luck finding the metal one?"

"Not yet. Principal Washburn says that someone's been playing 'pranks' lately, and someone sabotaged John's bike."

"This is considered a prank?" Ami looked slightly horrified.

"To some people? Yes. To me? No. I've known people who'd think this was hilarious. I didn't like those people."

"Yeah i can't say this seems funny..."

"Me neither. Excuse to show off my new pegleg and maybe get sympathy, but funny? Not really."

"Ahhh... you want sympathy?" Ami grinned.

"I wouldn't mind." he grinned back.

"Oh you poor dear." Ami said barely not giggling and kissing him.

Billy also had trouble not laughing, and kissed her back.

"See much better with kissing then with sympathy."

"Agreed. Hopefully this time we won't get interrupted like last time."

"Mmm, yes. Though there is you know, a movie." Ami grinned.

"That's true. Maybe we can find some private time this weekend?"

"Oooh, that would be lovely ~~and weetiny~~!"

After his shift at the clinic, Wilson bolted for home to put the final touches on his surprise for Aziraphale. He knew that his lover was still suffering some from the attack to his office the day before and the thought of students and friends leaving in the next couple of weeks and so he was trying to do small things that he knew would bring a smile to the angel’s face.

Today, that thing was a picnic to go with their movie date night. They had missed out the week before and while the movie playing this week wasn’t one of Wilson’s favorites, well…it wasn’t as if Wilson and Phale tended to spend much time actually watching the movie to begin with.

So the night before, when he’d gotten home from his shift, he’d prepped some dishes which just needed to be finished off and packed up.

For starters Wilson had carefully wrapped Procuitto Ham around mozzarella cheese for the angel and thinly sliced avocado around the mozzarella for himself. He’d also blanched some asparagus and then chilled it, wrapping it in bacon for Phale, plain for himself.

For the meal he’d built everything around little chilled Double Baked Stilton and Corn Souffle (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_20322,00.html?rsrc=search). To go with the soufflé he added a Mixed Green Salad with Roasted Baby Beets, Green Apples and a Spring Onion and Orange Vinaigrette (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_34919,00.html?rsrc=search) and then for them to enjoy something sweet, there was a dessert of Apple Strudel with Fresh Berry Sauce (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_28685,00.html?rsrc=search).

A bottle of pino grecio had been chilling since the night before and with a little bit of finesse Wilson managed to pack everything into the picnic basket they had picked up earlier in the year.

Grabbing a couple tartan blankets, Wilson added a few pillows and the basket into a little wagon and trucked himself and his picnic dinner across the road to the park. Settling down under the tree they usually chose as their spot for the movie, he laid out the blankets and began to set things up. Pillows were artfully placed for seating –and later for snuggling- with small tealight candles spread here and there to add atmosphere. The food was prepped and Wilson had two glasses of chilled wine, sitting and waiting.

All he needed now, was a certain angel.

Having dutifully busied himself with various ~~handwavy~~ errands, as Wilson had strongly suggested he do, Aziraphale arrived at the park just shortly after the young doctor had laid everything out. He paused in surprise, and then moved to take a seat next to his lover.

"James..." he murmured, not quite certain what to say. "This is...lovely. We haven't had a proper picnic in ages. What a nice idea!"

The angel stole a quick kiss, and then set about exploring the delicious spread before him.

As soon as Phale was settled and investigating the plates of goodies, Wilson picked up the wine glasses and handed one to his lover.

Clinking his glass to the angel's, the young doctor smiled warmly.

"To a good academic year."

With a bright smile, Aziraphale completed the toast with a sip of his wine, and then replied, "Quite, James love. It has been a good year, hasn't it? Despite the bumps here and there, all in all I've enjoyed it."

He stretched out and propped himself up on one elbow, letting his gaze take in the other people wandering around the park before looking up into Wilson's eyes. "And perhaps we should toast to a quiet and uneventful summer as well?" he suggested with a chuckle.

Millie arrived carrying a blanket and a basket with some food, drinks, and Proudfoot of course. She settled down in a nice cozy spot under a tree and did the teeniest of spells to keep the temperature comfortable and any bugs away. Proudfoot curled up on the blanket beside her.

Tannim should probably have been studying for Anatomy, but he'd had two finals today and was in urgent need of a break. So he was out in the park with a sandwich and Gatorade, waiting for the movie to start.

Steerpike was perched in a nearby tree, watching the movie goers for a good target. This was the last of the little annoyances before the finale tomorrow, and he wanted to find someone perfect.

He spotted Tannim and grinned to himself before lining up his shot and launching a blue paint filled water balloon at the boy.

The attack was completely unexpected. It took Tannim a few moments to figure out what had happened. (His first thought was a very large bird had just flown overhead.) "Hey!" he yelled, jumping up. "What was that for?" He looked around, trying to find the source of the paint balloon.

Steerpike quietly pulled himself back behind a tree branch and out of Tannim's sight.

Marvelous. He was obviously a genius.

Tannim searched for a few minutes, but the perpetrator was gone. He groaned. His sandwich was ruined and his Gatorade, formerly red, was now turning a toxic purple. He gave up on the movie idea and stalked back to the school, not worrying about the blue footprints he was leaving behind.

Stanley escorts Agatha to the movies, quickly becoming a weekly tradition.

This week's film is Ever After (http://imdb.com/title/tt0120631/) with Drew Barrymore, Anjelica Huston, and Dougray Scott.

They're taking down the screen until next week, but you can still talk about what you just saw, continue snuggling with your date, set up an impromptu game of after-dark frisbee, etc.

I was gonna do Auntie Mame this week, and that's what was on the poster I made, and then I forgot to upload the poster to my photobucket, and then I forgot to do it again, and then I forgot what movie I'd picked, and then so I went and randomly picked something I remembered someone suggesting!
