The Perk [Saturday morning]

Josh was drinking coffee.

Lots of coffee.

And though J,GOB indeed served the finest muffins and bagels in all the land, he was parked with a copy of the Washington Post in the coffee shop.

Certainly not because the last time he'd been in J,GOB, Aly had used the oh-so-original "who are you again?" approach to dumping him.

Really.

Move along.

Heavily Broken - The Veronicas

Lots of coffee was a great way to start the weekend, Jake decided and went to the Perk. He ordered a cappuchino and settled down with a book. Every time he moved his head glitter glittered all over the place. Damn cheerleaders, he thought with amusement.

[identity profile] courier-gavin.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Possibly," Jake replied after a moments thought. "I didn't stay to watch the aftermath. I was at the cheer assembly yesterday. It ended in glitter." He shook his head again, demonstrating.

[identity profile] courier-gavin.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yup. I think I might actually miss this place," Jake said thoughtfully. He sipped his coffee. "I know I'm going to miss the people. Are you staying to teach during the summer?"

[identity profile] imac-kenzie.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Mac immediately grinned when she saw Jake, and made her way over, holding her coffee cup carefully with both hands.

"Hi Jake!" she said cheerfully, putting her cup onto a table and hopping up onto a seat near him. "You're all glittery." Nothing like stating the obvious.

[identity profile] courier-gavin.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am," Jake agreed, smiling to the kid with the coffee, before grimacing. "I'm not your dad, am I?"

[identity profile] imac-kenzie.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Mac wrinkled her nose and giggled. "Don' be silly," she said. "My dad's home." She leaned forwards to poke at the shiny bits, experimentally. "Why are you all glittery?"

Aly had what could loosely be termed a hangover from the previous night at Caritas and her attempt to forget the events of the week. She'd decided she would stop at the Perk then go to find Josh and apologise.

She wasn't quite ready to find him at the Perk though. And stopped for a second, looking possibly more nervous and tentative than he'd ever seen her before.

It would have been a good idea to actually get coffee first, but she moved quietly over to Josh's table. "May I have a seat?" she asked.

[identity profile] tricksy-spy.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
She nodded and dropped into a seat. "I hate alternate timelines," she said conversationally.

Even when she's five, one thing that is always on Mac's mind is coffee. The barrista did at least give her decaff, though.

She thanked the perplexed woman serving her, reached up to dump a handful of change on the counter and took a firm hold on the take-out cup she'd been given.

[identity profile] imac-kenzie.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Mac looked up at the big man, a little in awe, as he is a lot taller than her, and shook her head solemnly. "Nuh-uh," she responded.

After a second she added, "I know her!"

Why, yes, that was a six year old stopping in for coffee on her way to work. Turtle had clutched in her hands a bunch of packets of sugar and had messily dumped them into her cup before returning to the nice lady at the counter and announcing, "I don't think I have enough sugar."

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Looking around while she was waiting for the nice lady to come back with more sugar, Turtle spotted Professor Lyman and waved excitedly. "Hiiiiii, Mr. Lyman! Look!" She lifted up her coffee cup, spilling some of it on the counter. "I'm a real prof'es'nal!" She dropped her voice to a grumble, trying to imitate her daddy in the morning before he had his coffee. "Can't talk, need coffee, no work without coffee, blarrg." And then she giggled.

The regular cup of coffee wasn't going to cut it this morning...not after she'd been awake half the night, trying to get in contact with Galactica. After three weeks, she wasn't just beginning to get nervous; she was nervous. And so it was to The Perk she went, in search of a double-shot white mocha, complete with whipped cream.

It wasn't until after placing her order, receiving her drink, sitting down, and managing a few sips that she realized she was surrounded. By kids.

This wasn't a bad situation -- not by a long shot. But it was a bit...unusual...for a coffee house. Well, for this coffee house.

[identity profile] dbiers.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
A little girl dragging a stuffed frog with her approached, wrinkling her nose. "Ch'c'late?"

Because when you're four, that totally counts as a proper greeting.

[identity profile] hera-rises.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Laura chuckled. "Ah, no, I don't have any. But you should probably start with something a little better for you, anyway." She gave a kind smile. "Did mom and dad feed you breakfast this morning?"

[identity profile] dbiers.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Mum an'daddys not here. I is a big girl! Had gummi bear! Tasted funnies." It was only a few, thankfully, because no child should be allowed to have ANY of the special seahorse gummi bears Deedee had found this morning.

Special meaning alcoholic. The rest were on a shelf much too high for a four year old to reach, or even see.

John popped in for some sugar. Responsibly. Cuz.... Chocolate cake is the best breakfast.
