The Causeway, Monday Late Afternoon

Her files and class materials had been rescued from the rubble of the school, her apartment had been emptied by the moving team dispatched from the ministry, and now all that remained was for M to meet her own transportation off the island.

It had been a strange but educational semester, and it was with mixed feelings that the small woman stood at the causeway, facing the town with her hands clasped behind her, as a helicopter touched down no far away.
As the helicopter's blades spun over head a lanky figure slipped out of the back, hunched over more out of habit than necessity, a sports coat in his hand. Making certain the door was shut, Villiers maintained his crouch until he was clear of the helicopter at which point he straightened up and quickly donned his coat.

Buttoning it neatly as he approached the small figure, Villiers ran his fingers through his dark hair and tried to make himself presentable for his boss.

"M'um." He said respectfully.
M took a moment to finish her contemplation of the pile of rubble, prominent on the hill, that had been the school. Then she turned and looked up at Villiers, giving him a curt nod.

"Is everything in order?"

She knew it would be, her people did their jobs well. But it was good employee politics, to give them the chance to make those assurances. And it reassured M as well, to fall back into the old comfortable patterns.
Villiers was also now staring at the pile of rubble up on the hill.

"Yes, M'um." He responded on automatic pilot, eventually tearing his gaze away from the destruction and down towards his diminutive boss.

"The helicopter will take us to Dullas where the plane is waiting for us. I've brought all the paperwork you requested and 007 has promised to be within radio contact for the next 24 hours."

There was a pause, followed by a somewhat aggrieved, "I expect you'll want to contact him within the next 8."
The calmness of M's response might have surprised Villiers. But months of exposure to the sort of trouble Fandom students could get into, dealing with 007 seemed almost a welcome distraction.

"What's he managed to destroy this time?" she asked in a dryly amused tone, as she turned toward the helicopter.
"Another embassay, M'um." Villiers offered up in a rueful tone. There was just something about 007 and embassays, like catnip to a cat.

"He was under orders not to step foot on the embassay grounds, so he blew the building up with a surface to air hand held missile launcher, flushed out his target and bagged the man."

There was a pause during which Villiers tried to keep his face straight but he ended up grinning a little anyway.

"It was actually a neat bit of work. He was posing as a buyer for a local arms dealer and was 'testing' the equipment when it 'malfunctioned'. The government is screaming bloody murder but technically they can't trace it back to us."
M paused in her approach to the helicopter and sighed. What was it about the double-0 and his penchant for random destruction?

"Keep an ear to ground, and let me know the minute there are any rumblings that might hint at it being connected to MI6." M gave her assistant a wry look. "And get 007 on the phone. I want to speak with him immediately."
"Yes, M'um." Villiers said smartly as he moved to hold the door to the helicopter for her and simultanously hit the speed dial on his phone.

Ahhh, finally, life was getting back to normal.
M stepped in, giving the island one last glance before accepting the phone from Villiers as he took his seat next to her.

"What the hell were you thinking, 007?" she snapped, falling easily and comfortably back into the old routine as the helicopter rose above the causeway and carried them away from Fandom.

[OOC: Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] dr_jwilsonmd for playing M's assistant for me. Posted in Townies because the defriending has already taken place, but not for interaction. Anyone who wanted to see M before she left can go to this post. As of Monday afternoon, M has officially left Fandom.]
