Café Fina, Wednesday

To say that a blackout was a bit of an inconvenience around Fina was something of an understatement, as the lights all ran on electricity. And the ovens. And the stovetops. And so on.
But at least the maitre'd was around and quite able to provide light for the café.

Today's Specials Board Reads:
Salad! Sushi! Fina offers a fine selection of raw food! And Flambé!

Accursed sharpie line.

(Look! It's a Fina!)

Luckily, Emma quite liked both salad and sushi. She was not a big fan of cold showers and no stock market updates however. She was hoping to have some good company for lunch, however, and that would certainly cheer her up.

Waking up to no lights had been an unexpected surprise but the dark or cold water hasn't really bothered him for awhile. He'd checked his voicemail, smiled and, after making sure Diefenbaker still wasn't upset with him (he was), he found his way down to Cafe Fina.

"Professor," he greeted before taking a seat, "thank you for the invitation."

"You are most welcome, Constable," Emma smiled. She gave their surroundings a wry look. "I hope you don't mind a cold lunch. The power seems to be out all over the island."

"So it would seem," he said, frowning slightly. "I'm not sure what happened only that it had to have happened late last night. I took a cold shower this morning due to it."

"As did I," said Emma. She didn't look very happy about it. "And that was after my dear house mate being very loud with his new 'friend'."

"Which house mate would this be?" Fraser asked. "And I guess we can be thankful that, while cold, there was still water?"

"Ares, the so-called god of war." She really hadn't appreciated the loud noises. She gave Fraser a reluctant smile though. "Do you always see the bright side?"

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
He smiled at her. "It's not the first time someone's told me that so I think I do. I try, at least. As for Ares, he never really impressed me all that much."

Emma's smiled widened. "Do tell me more," she said encouragingly, while she attempted to read the menu.

"I think he tries too hard," Fraser said, glancing at his own menu. "Perhaps overcompensation?"

Emma actually giggled. "I think you're correct! All that black leather.." Of course, white leather was completely different.

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly," he said, eyes wide with amusement. "You should laugh more often."

"I laugh when I'm amused," Emma said with a smile, and certainly not a faint blush, because she did not blush. "I believe I'll have the sushi. What about you?"

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"You do," he said and nodded. "It's a nice sound."

He looked through the menu once more.

"I think I'll go with something easy." He pointed out one of the sandwiches. "No danger of something not being not cooked on a sandwich, is there?"

"Not usually," Emma said cautiously. She smiled to their waiter who might or might not actually be a pony and placed their order. "Oh and a Pepsi, please."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Water for me," he said. "And yes, true. Can't be too careful in a place like this. Hopefully I don't end up tiny after eating the sandwich."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] carbontelepath.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Emma paused. "Do you mean tiny as in a child, or as in the size of an ant?"

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Tiny as child," he said with a laugh. "I don't know if I met you that weekend or not. I met many tiny people."

"I really only remember being very scared of one of my students," Emma admitted. "I'm not quite sure why, since I believe she was only offering me candy."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"I...think I met the same person," he said. "And she made me cry. Not something I do all the time, by the way."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] carbontelepath.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Emma reached out to give his hand a comforting pat. "She was very frightening, wasn't she? And I'm sure you don't."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
He smiled at that and almost blushed. Almost. "She was, indeed. I'm sure she didn't mean to be but she was. And I'm sure you don't cry all the time either."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] carbontelepath.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Certainly not," Emma nodded. She paused to accept her Pepsi, then turned back to Fraser. "I must admit that I sometimes yell, though. But only to people who really deserve it."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"There's absolutely nothing wrong with yelling," he said, taking his own water with a nod of thanks. "Especially if it's well deserved. I tend to take the staring approach."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] carbontelepath.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oooh, that's a good one too," Emma agreed. She sipped her pepsi. "But not, I find, quite as satisfying somehow."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know if I could yell effectively," he said honestly. "I don't do it often and thus, I probably would fail miserably if I tried."

"With teenagers it's best to use what you know work. They can sense weakness, you know. Like sharks."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"They seem to be polite enough to me," he said. "And fascinated with my hat."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] carbontelepath.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's a nice hat," Emma agreed, looking at it by the light of the maitre d'. "Perhaps I should get one as well? What do you think?"

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Would you like to try it on?" Fraser asked, already taking the hat off his head. "I'm sure you'll look just as nice with it on as you do with it off."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] carbontelepath.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh you flatter me," Emma said, reaching out for the hat. "Do keep it up," she added with a grin as she placed the hat on her head. She nudged it a little, then looked at Fraser. It was a little lopsided on her head since she didn't have a mirror to look in. "Well?"

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Already smiling, he reached out to straighten the hat and then sat back. "Very nice. Better than myself, if I don't say so."
