Fandom Post Office: Wednesday 9...ish-5pm

Katara had almost forgotten she had a new day to work at the Post Office.

Which was why she ran through the door way, way late and was hoping Gladys did notice.

Maybe Gladys did and maybe she didn't, but she didn't say anything.  She just kept stacking mail into pigeonholes for the residents of Fandom.

Either way, she started to work.

After being directed this way by Yachiru's giddy, pointing directions through the streets of Fandom, Kenpachi stood in front of the doorway of the Post Office (after ducking through it) and looked around.

"This," he declared, "does not look like a place for food."

What a surprise; Yachiru's directions had proven false. She, beaming and grinning on his shoulder, seemed oblivious to...just about everything, so Kenpachi's eye went toward the girl behind the counter as if expecting clarification.

Post office. Kenpachi looked over at Yachiru's beaming face, and down toward the girl, and then around the room, thinking that he wouldn't be too surprised if, in a few seconds, Yachiru lept from his shoulder and started gnawing on the envelopes.

His answer to the girl was simple. "Yes."

Kenpachi was quiet for a while as he looked at the girl, contemplating, his chin lifted to increase his stature, massiveness, and intimidation. Finally, he answered. "A store might be optimal, yes."

He looked the girl over again. "...Are you a fighter, Katara?"

A rather sharp grin forming on his face, Kenpachi was going to ask another question before Yachiru lifted her head from where she was peeking over his board shoulder and spoke first. "How do you bend water?" Her eyes were wide with curiosity and intrigue.

Yachiru's excitement made her seem to be slipping down Kenpachi's arm. "Can I seeeeee? Is that like your bankai? Will you fight Ken-chan and use your water bankai bendy thingy?"

Kenpachi grunted, and then smirked at the girl. "I was told I could not kill; nothing was said about fighting. In fact, I believe that is what they hired me for..."

Although he was still unclear on the concept of how....accidents figured in. Because, hey. Accidents happened, right?

Yachiru nuzzled her nose into Kenpachi's shoulder, looking over at him with wide, happy eyes because he looked happy talking about fighting and a happy Ken-chan meant a happy Yachiru. They danced back over to Katara. "Are you taking Ken-chan's class, Bendy Water Girl? 'Cause then you could show me there!"

Yachiru clapped in excitement for the show coming up, bouncing up and down on Kenpachi's shoulder. Drawing in a breath at the little one's eagerness and a little intrigued himself, Kenpachi kept his answer to a short, "Yes. I am," and then waited to see what this girl's ability was.

Laughing and waving her arms as the small shower snow, Yachiru was obviously very happy with Bendy Water's ability. She seemed remnicent of a child on her first Christmas. Kenpachi's grin, however, was more for the giggling appraisal of his lieutenant than the ability itself. "A nice parlour trick," he assessed.

"Give anyone a weapon, and they can fight," Kenpachi said, sounding unimpressed but still grinning. Such a shame that most people had to be inspired into a fighting mood...

Grinning back, Kenpachi quickly leaned to the side to avoid the ball, letting it barely brush his shoulder as the bells in his hair chimed with the moment. "No thanks. Got my o--" His hand went to his side to pull out his sword, but he stopped because it was not there.

His eyes darted to Yachiru, who had tried to catch the ball of water, which didn't work and so now she was soaked and giggling. The giggling halted immediately when she saw Kenpachi's eye on her, and she hid behind his shoulder.

"They told me not to let you leave the house with it unless you were going to class or training specifically. Too many accidents otherwise."

"They're all parlour tricks, just like bankai," Kenpachi said. "Never said they cannot be dangerous, or effective."

"Special skill of a Shinigami that utilizes their zanpactou to create a more destructive attack," Kenpachi said, oh-so-helpfully.

"A tool used by the weak because they cannot succeed without it."

Kenpachi grunted, a sound which then moved into his growing smirk. "Prove it, then."

He...was really going to be terrible at this whole 'not picking fights with everyone you see' rule.

Now that was more like it. Kenpachi, who's size was deceptive when it came to his speed, easily avoided most of the discs. Yachiru did a quick flip of her mount on the back and scurried away for a good safe vantage point. The ones that did hit mostly clattered against his rock hard muscle; even if they did manage to penetrate, it wasn't like that'd be that painful. He wouldn't even have to pull them out, just let them melt! Unless the girl could manipulate them while they were in him, in which case...Maaaaan, now he wished they had penetrated...

He charged for the girl, stooping low to compensate for the difference in height, hoping to grab her by the arm over the counter.

Kenpachi easily lifted the girl up, danging her by the arm as the ice hit his face. Interesting sensation, that, cold and pain and discomfort in his jaw that he'd have to gleefully put back in place a little later. He shook his head, turning sharply, swinging the girl with him and releasing her wrist to send her off toward the wall.

Kenpachi grinned as they came toward him. The first, while knocking his shoulder back, felt like a prick followed by a slug of a massive, cold fist, but only the second one managed to pierce through his skin, calloused over so many times as it was. He let out a grunt; his grin only got bigger. Good. Damn, it felt good, too. Pain usually felt like fire ripping through him; the cold of the ice made it feel surreal, calming. And now he could see if she would do anything to it while it was imbedded.

Teeth gritting together as his grin increased even more, Kenpachi reveled in the pain a little longer, until he was sure blood was probably starting to well up. He wrapped his hand around the spike, bracing himself before yanking it out with a gutteral yell.

Hey, where'd it....?

Awww. Kenpachi's shoulders sunk and he shook out his hand, splattering the wet remains of what was the icicle spike onto the floor. He flashed his psychotic grin at the girl as he rolled his shoulder into the pain.

"I'm borrowing this!" Yachiru chirped, a wad of paper in her hand as she hurried forward and hopped up on Kenpachi's back. She immediately began to dab at the wetness of water mixed with his blood. She shook her head. "You're wearing out this gigai so much, Ken-chan!"

"Yes," Kenpachi said. But she had potential. A lot of it. He grinned.

Kenpachi grunted again, but Yachiru shook her head before he could respond. "Get this patched up, Ken-chan, and then find food like we meant to, 'kay? We're gonna need to get you a new gigai before the week's even out!"

She sounded strangely excited about this fact, still patting away at the wound with the papers as Kenpachi simply shook his head with a resounding chorus of bells, and headed out of the post office.

He hated having to leave things unfinished and still alive...
