Trooper Station: Thursday Morning
"Good morning gentlemen. I bring to you ambrosia of the gods," Dale declared as he entered the trooper station. "Coffee from the Perk and donuts from God of Biscuits.
Roy watched amused as the four troopers currently present at the station immediately crowded around Dale to accept the offer to breakfast. "Morning, Mr. Cooper," Roy spoke. "It would seem that people like bringing food to that station. I hope it's not an attempt at bribery."
"Not at all," Dale said in his usual chipper manner. "Merely an assurance that your men are given the vital sustenance they need to get through the day. How are you Sheriff?"
Roy smiled a little at the remark. "I'm well enough. Should I take it that your being here means that you haven't found a way back yet?"
"Unfortunately, I appear to be a permanent guest here at the island," Dale said with a grim look. "And while I wish things were different, I may as well make the best of it. I have been going over the possibilities here in Fandom in order to obtain gainful employment. Taking into consideration the current cost of living, my skill set and my salary requirements, my two options are either working for The Perk or here at the police station. However once I took into account my consumption of coffee on a daily basis I realized that working for the perk would swiftly put it out of business. Therefore I am presenting myself to you as potential employee for your department, if you are so inclined and a position is available."
The position was available as the island was proving a challenge to secure with a mere nine men. Cooper however was an unknown and Roy didn't like relying on unknowns. Then again, the troopers were as unfamilar to him as Cooper was. "Why don't we discuss this in my office?" Roy suggest, already turning and heading down the hall towards the sheriff's office.
"Certainly," Cooper said grabbing a coffee and a jelly doughnut before following Roy. "I am at your disposal."
Roy waited for Cooper to enter the office and closed the door behind him before he picked up the conversation. "I hope you understand that while we are understaffed here, I can't just hire anyone who walks in and asks for a job. However, I'm aware that you can't simply supply me of a resume just now so maybe we can figure something out together," he suggest pleasantly as he moved around the desk to sit down.
"A resume I could probably provide," Dale said as he sat down. "However since there is no way to verify my background, you would probably would find it useless. So what do you have in mind, Sheriff?"
"Hmmm," Roy leaned back in his chair as he regarded Dale for a long moment before coming to a decision. "The troopers are fine military officers, but they don't have a whole lot of finesse. There's been something that I've been meaning to look in on, but for now there have been more pressing matters to attend to. I'd be grateful if you would be able to do some investigating for me."
"It would be a pleasure, Sheriff," Dale said with a grin. "What kind of investigation are we talking about?"
Smirking, Roy opened a drawer to the side of his desk and pulled out the note he'd received from Deadpool. "Upon my arrival I received this," he said, sliding it across the desk towards Dale. "I'd like to know why this Deadpool is already trying to bribe me and whether or not he could pose a threat."
Dale took the letter an began to examine it as he asked. "Can you tell me anything about this Deadpool fellow? A general description should suffice."
"I haven't met him yet, but he's a mercenary as far as I know and he had ties with the previous Sheriff," Roy replied. "He also was arrested a while ago for shooting at someone in the Preserve. He was released was the person he attacked never was found and I don't think the Sheriff was interested in keeping her partner locked up. I can have one of the troopers get you the file if you want."
"Assuming that the file has a mugshot and general description of the man, yes please," Dale said continuing to examine the letter closely. "Though right off the bat I can say that this wasn't written by him."
"The only thing it said was that he wore a black and red suit," Roy frowned and leaned forward. "How can you be sure of that?"
"Handwriting analysis," Dale explained simply as he continued to examine the letter. "This was written by a woman in her early to mid twenties; five foot six; roughly one hundred and twenty five pounds; blonde hair with counterintelligence or espionage training from a country of unknown origin. She also has a close relationship with a politician of some sort."
Roy raised an eyebrow as the description was too much like a certain spy he knew. "You can see all that from just looking at the letter?"
"The lettering, while looking like chicken scratch, does not have a rushed looked to it. This is not the letter of someone dashing off a quick love note as it is intended. The forgery is no doubt fairly good but obviously done by someone who was well trained in the art. Taking into account the pattern, form, movement, rhythm, quality, and consistency of the graphic strokes here, here and here," Dale said pointing to various letters on the page, "I can extrapolate the height, weight and gender of the writer. If you look in the envelope you'll see a strand of blonde hair and finally if I was a betting man I'd say that this woman has a thing for crows but that's just my gut instinct talking."
"Crows?" Roy blinked. He'd been trying to see whatever Dale was pointing at, but other than the hair he was still at a loss. He shook his head. "If you're right, then it's sounding like miss Alianne wrote it. I'd like you to get confirmation on it, though."
"Well if you can have her brought in, I'd be happy to question her," Dale replied handing back the letter. "Unless you have something else in mind."
"Actually," Roy smirked as he did get an idea. "Bringing her in might not have much use. If she really wrote it, then she won't just confess to it. She is a trained spy after all and without evidence we can't just call her in. Perhaps you can continue looking into this Deadpool and I'll see if I can get something out of miss Alianne."
"Does that mean I have the job Sheriff?" Dale said with a grin. "Or will I be investigating this informally?"
"Hmmmm," Roy rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Let's call this a trial. If the information checks out, we'll make things official. Does that work for you, mister Cooper?"
"Perfectly," Dale said getting up from his chair. "Do you mind if I pick up the arrest record on Mr. Deadpool?"
"Not at all. Tell the trooper at the desk that I gave you permission to look into it," Roy rose from his chair.
"Thank you for the opportunity, Sheriff," Dale said offering his hand. "I'll make sure that you don't regret it."
Roy smiled as he shook Dale's hand. "I'm counting on it," he replied. "I'm looking forward to your report."
