The Perk, noon, Thursday

Buffy and Ronan entered the Perk. Buffy walked in first to show off the place. "Isn't it cozy? And are you sure you don't want a white mocha with strawberry or something? I mean, are you sure about the tea?"

Buffy would drink tea if it was offered, but she wasn't entirely on board with the concept of buying it at a coffee shop.

ooc: Buffy's here for Ronan, but open like a Perk is!

Ronan smiled. "Just tea, thank you. A nice cup of Lady Grey would be wonderful."

Buffy gave him a skeptical look, but went over to the barista to order. When she came back to the table, she looked surprised. "They do sell tea here. Huh." She placed the cup in front of Ronan and sat down with her mocha. "I wonder if other people know that."

"I imagine that some do," Ronan replied. "I can't imagine that there is no one else on the island who drinks tea, even if they do normally drink coffee."

Buffy considered this. "I know that Molly doesn't drink coffee... And Karal definitely drinks tea, 'cause he made some yesterday. But he's only been here as long as you have."

Ronan sighed. "There are so many people I have yet to meet."

Buffy grinned. "I'm been here a year, and I still haven't met all of the old people. I mean, it's just so much to do, and even if you see people at, like, parties and stuff, you don't end up talking with all of them. And some people are totally anti-social and hang out on the roof and emo at each other."

Ronan completely refrained from bringing up the time he'd spent emoing in his alcove over the weekend. "So, Zack mentioned that you had some form of abilities?" he said, with perhaps his least smooth segue ever.

"Uh-huh." Buffy nodded. "I'm a Slayer. A Chosen One, destined to kill vampires and monsters -- only bad monsters! -- and stuff, but there's never any vampires here." She pouted. "I think there used to be, but they were all gone before I arrived, which I think is totally unfair. But Mel is worse off, 'cause I think she still goes on patrols."

Ronan nodded. That made sense. "And this Mel is also a Slayer?" he asked. He took a sip of his tea.

"Yup, but she's from the future, and she's got an awesome scythe-axe-thing," Buffy said, trying not to sound too jealous.

"A scythe-axe-thing? Sounds interesting," Ronan said, his smile wide and his accent as thick as ever. "So, what do you do for fun, Miss Summers?"

Buffy was distracted by the smile/accent combination for a moment. "Huh? What? Um, I cheer? I like shopping and movies and fighting evil things." She shrugged. "You know, all the normal things."

Ronan laughed. "I suppose that, though there are very few places where fighting evil things is normal, this is probably one of them." His eyes danced as he reached across the table to take her hand. "I must say, Miss Summers -- Buffy -- that I have greatly enjoyed our conversations together."

Buffy blinked a little as he took her hand, but she smiled. "Me too!"

"That's very nice of you, Buffy." There was a slight caress of her hand here. "And I'm hoping that we might spend some more... quality time together."

She narrowed her eyes slightly. "...Quality time?" she repeated. For some reason she was definitely not getting gentlemanly vibes any more.

And for good reason. Ronan considered her for a moment, and then decided, She's a cheerleader. Perhaps blunt is better. "My alcove," he said, "has a privacy field on it. No one outside can be aware of what occurs on the inside."

Buffy's jaw dropped and she drew her hand back. "What? What?! I just met you! Do I look like Alec? No, even he wouldn't..! I mean, I'm pretty sure! And even if he's a cheerleader and I'M a cheerleader and, like, the head cheerleader, that doesn't mean I'm a head cheerleader! Oh my god, I didn't need the hot water this much!"

She glared at him. The spoon she'd been idly stirring her coffee with had been bent.

Ronan's eyes darkened greatly, and his voice dripped with bitter scorn. "What possible reason could I have for propositioning Alec in the same manner? I misjudged you, Miss Summers," he said, and somehow the title seemed more an insult now than a compliment. "I won't do the same again."

He got up, turned on his heel, and left.

"You seriously need some glitter in your life!" Buffy yelled after him. "And a date with my fist in the gym! Standing offer! Really!"

She settled down with her mocha, glaring at the abandoned cup of tea. She should've known it would be something wrong with him. Tea fancier! Hmph.
