The Perk: Thursday Morning

Dale is going over his notes from his interviews yesterday as he ingests massive quantities of coffee as he makes some casual observations on his tape recorder.

"Diane? Between the students, residents and whatever seems to be running around in the woods; I can honestly say that I've found someplace stranger than Twin Peaks. And that's saying something."

Emma wanted fancy coffee. There were no fancy coffee in her house, therefor she made her way down to the Perk. She gave Dale a nod as she entered, and then went to contemplate coffee choices.

She finally ended up with a cappuchino and a muffin and went to find a seat.

"Mr Cooper, good morning to you as well. Are you working?" She inclined her head, looking in the direction of his notes.

"Oh yes, on the radio." Emma sat down, frowning. "Do you know yet who or what it is?"

Mary's brain is still about 3 hours behind, so her first objective this morning was to get some coffee. Now she's got a mug in front of her, she can go back to worrying whether or not she made the best decision in leaving Vegas.

"Morning," said Mary, smiling back.

"Actually, I am," said Mary. "It's my first full day in town. I just arrived yesterday. I'm going to be managing the hotel."

Coffee. Coffee was good. Aly wandered into the Perk with a book and after some deliberation ordered a cherry danish and a very large cup.

She noticed Dale working and nodded to him as she took a seat. "Good morning, neighbour."

"Not officially," she said, smiling back. She leaned over to offer her hand. "I'm Aly. I'm fairly certain you just moved onto my floor in the Mauvaise Chance."

"Since September," she replied. "I'm a teacher up at the school. And you're a Special Agent?"

Emma gave Aly a little wave and a smile.

"Enjoying the lack of students?" Aly asked with a grin.

"I really, really am," Emma said happily. "How are they treating you? Anyone tried blowing themselves up yet?"

"What is this place you've brought me to now?" Kenpachi asked, ducking his head a little as he and Yachiru on his shoulder entered the Perk. He looked around, unconsciously sort of looming in the doorway, taking note of the strong but vaguely familiar scents.

"Coffee shop!" Yachiru informed him brightly.

Which made Kenpachi's eye widen a little. "You are not having coffee."

"Please, please, please, please, pleeeeeeeease?"

Well, he did have trouble refusing her anything when she begged like that. Especially since her begging came with a series of what she thought were light punches across his back. And those punches were stronger than Kenpachi's fear of what Yachiru would be like hopped up on too much caffeine.

Kenpachi was distracted a little at the barista sort of nervously asking them what they'd want. "Black coffee for me," he told her. "Nothing with too much sugar--"

"SUGAR!"

"No sugar for her."

"Sugar, sugar, sugar!"

With a sigh, Kenpachi turned toward the man who'd given them a greeting and lifted his chin in response, while Yachiru worked her charm on the barista to get herself something that would have her bouncing off the walls. Yes. Even more so than she already was.

"Good morning," he said, simply.

"Ohaya!" Yachiru chirped in with a wave.

Kenpachi grunted, mumbling something about how the little pink haired thing wakes up this insanely hyper and then turned slightly, angling away from Dale as if completely disregarding any desire to have heard or care for remembering the name or continuing the conversation.

Yachiru, however, was much less rude. "I'm Yachiru!" she introduced herself. "This is Ken-cha--"

Kenpachi quickly cut her off. "Zaraki," he said firmly, lest Dale get the wrong idea. "Captain Kenpachi Zaraki."

Notebook and letters tucked under an arm, Laura made her way to the counter and ordered a latte. The blueberry scone looked a little too good to avoid as well. She added one to her order, then took a seat.

A little caffeine in the mornings was a good thing.
