Graveyard: Friday Evening...

It's another night and the graveyard and Mel is doing her patrol thing.

It's unlikely she'll find any vampires or demons to slay, however considering who her traveling companion is she might end up slaying him before the night is through.

Especially if he keeps complaining.

"Ruttin' hell," Mel snapped in exasperation. "Will you stop griping already?"

"I don't see what we're doing out here," Zuko snapped right back. It wasn't the first time he'd made the objection.
"It's patrolling," Mel said as she gritted her teeth at having to explain the concept. Again. "For vampires. Demons. Or giant hockey masked nut-jobs who want to cut people up with a machete. It's what I do."
He barely kept from suggesting she should find something more fun to do and instead asked the question that had been burning on his mind since she dragged him out here. "What are vampires?"
Mel gave Zuko a brief look of "Have you been living in a hole since you got here?" kind of look before responding.

"They are demons who feed on human blood," she explained as she went along the grave stones. "If a victim of a vampire drinks any of the vampire's blood before they die they come back as a vampire."
"And you kill them," Zuko summarised, he stuffed his hands in his pockets as he trailed after her. "Are there even vampires here?"
"No. But there were," Mel replied with a sigh. "And there will probably be again. Hence the patrolling."
"Probably?" Zuko asked sceptically. "So not necessarily tonight?"
"It's not just vampires we're looking for," Mel huffed. "Have you not been here for the last year? Trolls? Evil Shadow things? It's a preventive measure. Why? Do you have something else you want to do?"

There might be a slight smirk when she asked that last question.
Zuko scowled. "I could have been sleeping," he said stubbornly, not wanting to admit he'd had very different expectations about being dragged out of bed.
Mel scowled back. "Yeah. Because your social schedule is so rough you can't take a nap during the day."
He huffed. "Someone keeps dragging me off to the shack," he pointed out, not so smartly.
"I don't drag you any where!" Mel snapped. "And I don't seem to hear you complaining about it!"
"That's..." he wasn't sure what he was arguing about because she was right. "That's beside the point!"
"Oh?" Mel said crossing her arms. "And what exactly is your point?"
He really didn't have a point, but now he needed one. His hands clenched by his side as he continued to glare. "My point is that there is nothing to do here!"
"We're patrolling!" Mel snapped back. "It's important because-"

Mel stopped and flailed. Mostly because he was right. There really is nothing to do here.

"Just... BECAUSE!"
It was Zuko's turn to smirk now. "So you wouldn't rather be doing something else?"
Mel fumed at Zuko for a few seconds before just sighing. "Oh, frak it all to hell," she said as she grabbed Zuko and pulled him in for a kiss.
He stumbled a little, but quickly caught himself and cupping her face in his hands he kissed her enthusiastically. Way better than looking for vampires. Or sleeping, really.
"Better now?" Mel asked in between kisses as her hands crept up into his hair.
Zuko nodded wordlessly, more focused on the kissing than the talking. He stroked his hands down her neck and to her shoulders. "Should have started with that," he told her after a long while.
"So Sab could have doused us with another bucket of water?" Mel asked as she moved her hands up to his face. "I'd prefer to stay dry, thank you."
"Oh," Zuko's eyes widened a little as he finally caught up with why they were out there. "I'm tired of people throwing stuff," he said, which might have been a round about way of apologising or not. At least it was followed by another kiss.
Mel smirked a little a little as she brushed her hands against his cheek. "Try being called a 'Firelady' all the time. A bucket of water would sometimes be more pleasant.
Zuko frowned, idly brushing his thumb over her collarbone. "That's not even an official title," he remarked. "I can throw fire at them."
"I can handle it myself," Mel said firmly then tilted her head slightly. "Can I ask you a question?"
"I am not pranking Aly for Deadpool," Zuko said right away.
"Not what I was going to ask," Mel said rolling her eyes. "Your scar. How did that happen?"
He tensed instantly, pulling back almost immediately. "Training accident," he lied through his teeth, but he was a bad liar. "How did you get yours?" The question followed right after, both a distraction and a way to hit out.
Mel winced, both at the reaction and the question. "It was... an accident," Mel said also lying. "Sorry. Didn't mean to get personal."
"It doesn't matter," he shot back, his words at odds with his response. "It was just a dumb accident. We should go find vampires."
"Fine," Mel said in a tone that clearly meant it wasn't fine and turned to continue walking. "Whatever."
Scowling, Zuko considered just going back to the cabins. For some reason however, he didn't and just followed her along wordlessly.
They walked along in silence for a few minutes until Mel shoved her hands in her pockets and looked away. "My brother and I were attacked by a vampire," Mel said quietly. "He slashed my face open and threw me off a six story building."
"You survived a fall like that?" Zuko asked with maybe the tiniest hint of concern as he forgot his crankiness for a second.
"Part of the slayer power package," Mel said a slight edge to her voice. "Hard to kill, quick to heal. My brother wasn't so lucky."
Zuko glanced sideways at her, trying to read her. "What happened to him?" He wasn't really expecting an answer.
"He died," she said simply.
Wincing, Zuko glanced back at the path ahead. "I'm sorry," he said honestly, not having a whole lot of words.
"Yeah, Thanks," Mel said quietly. "Not a lot I can do about it now but... that's why I patrol."
He could relate to that at least in some way and he moved a little closer to her as they continued walking. "How do vampires like fire?"
"They tend to explode into ashes from it," Mel said brushing up against him slightly. Totally an accident. Really.

And that was NOT the smallest sign of a grin on her face. Shut up.
"Ashes is good, right?" he checked. It was a good thing he didn't do grins. "Maybe I should become a vampire slayer."
There was a slight snort of laughter before Zuko was grabbed again and kissed. "C'mon," she said a few moments later as she began dragging him along by his arm. "We have to patrol out by the shack."

And without another word of discussion Mel and Zuko left the cemetery for some serious searching for evil monsters. Anything remotely looking like making out is strictly heresay and spread by squirrels looking to create a conspiracy.
