Book Haven: Monday 10-5PM [5-28-07]

Lana barely managed to make her way into town and to the bookstore after class. The gunfire and the fall had really not helped her concussion at all. She sat down in a chair as soon as she got in, hoping her head would stop pounding and the nausea would go away soon so she could set the tea and things out for the customers.

Millie had sensed something wasn't right the second Lana had opened the door and hurried downstairs to see what was wrong. She was horrified at how poorly Lana seemed. "Oh, my goodness, Lana! Whatever happened?"

Lana smiled wanly up at her. "Concussion. Which wasn't helped by my Firearms class. I'll get up to set things out in just a minute."

"You will do no such thing!" Millie said firmly. She briefly debated sending her home, but decided she'd feel better keeping Lana right here where she could keep an eye on her for a while. It only took a moment to conjure a comfy chaise lounge from, well... All right, she wasn't quite sure where it had come from, but she'd put it back later. Pillows and a blanket followed next and she tucked the whole thing magically into a cozy reading area out of the way.

Lana watched with wide eyes as all of this occured. She'd known Millie could do magic, but this was pretty amazing.

"Up you get," Millie said, taking Lana gently by the arm and making her light enough that she could all but carry her over to the chaise lounge, tucking her in despite Lana's weak protests. "None of that now. Either you lie here and rest where I can watch you or I'm bringing you straight to the clinic and, and... firing you!"

Not that she had any intention of doing that, but she thought it would sound sufficiently dire for the overly-conscientious Lana.

Lana let herself be Goddess-handled into the chaise and tucked in without further protest.

Millie thought for a second, then quickly conjured over a small table, tea, cream, sugar, a variety of pastries, and a selection of the books Lana had shown interest in. "There!" she said, fixing up a cup of tea. "Sit, rest, relax. Sleep if you can. I'll take care of any customers."

Lana knew she should protest, but honestly there was no way she'd be able to work, much less walk all the way back to the cabins. And at least here she might be able to sleep. Millie's place might not have the same type of protective wards that Mr. Phale's house did, but still she knew that nothing bad would be able to enter here. Besides, it was rather comforting to have Millie fussing over her. So, she sipped her tea and managed a sincere thank you.

"Goodness," Millie said again. "No need for that! I'm glad to be able to help." She looked around thoughtfully, then called for Proudfoot, who turned out to be watching from a nearby chair. "Oh there you are. Would you please watch out for Lana? Let me know if she so much as tries to stir a foot from the chaise."

Proudfoot yawned hugely, then jumped up onto the end of the chaise, curling herself warmly against Lana's feet.

"Yes, that should just about do it," Millie said, then conjured a small bell to place on the table. "There. If you need anything just ring. I'll be nearby." She smiled cheerfully at Lana, resting a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry that healing isn't one of my abilities or you'd be better in no time."

She gave her a last smile, then bustled off to get the store opened.

[Book Haven is open! Come buy a book, talk to Millie, check on Lana, or see if you can lure Proudfoot away from her post! Preplayed with, well... me.]

Come talk to Millie, but a book, ask her how Lana's doing...

Jim hurried into the bookstore as soon as he got Lana's message and nodded to the woman he assumed was her boss - not that he'd ever really met the woman.

Millie hurried over. "Are you Lana's Jim? She just looked so terrible when she came in that I tucked her right away here to rest."

"Uh, yeah," Jim said with a small smile. "I'm Lana's Jim. Is she alright? I can't believe she got out of bed."

"Her head is bothering quite a good deal and I gather her class on firearms didn't help any," Millie said a little disapprovingly. "Have you noticed that she seems quite distressingly overly-conscientious? Not that that isn't a marvelous trait in an employee, but the poor dear should simply have called in sick."

She blushed. "Oh dear, listen to me going on, when all you want to do is go see her. Go on over, I'm sure she'll be glad to see you."

"I know she is. Thank you, ma'am," Jim said politely, and then moved over to beside her arm chair, crouching and touching Lana's arm lightly.

"Of course I came," he smiled softly. "How are you feeling?"

That brought a grin out from him. "Good. But you shouldn't've gone out at all."

"You're allowed to take a few days off," Jim sighed.

"Why don't we . . . I don't know, we can't go away, but we can stay at the hotel until we can move back into the dorms?"

"I don't think it'll be booked up," Jim said, glad that his suggestion made her happy. "Why don't we walk - slowly - over to the hotel and see? Unless you're too sore to move. Then just stay there."

Jim ducked his head, trying to hide his pleased smile. "You're not going to be skipping out on your shift?" he teased.

"I approve," Jim smiled. "Whenever you're ready."

Jim wrapped an arm around her to make sure that she wasn't going anywhere she wasn't supposed to. He smiled down at her. "You're looking better."

"Good." He kissed the top of her head lightly. "But you still shouldn't have come to work."

"It's just what you do," Jim said, shaking his head. "Not that I like it."

"I know. Just . . . try not to get any more concussions, please?"

"Thank you." Jim finally ushered her out of the shop. "I love you."

Proudfoot

Proudfoot is curled up at Lana's feet protectively. You're free to try and lure her away, but an Asheth Temple cat takes her responsibilities quite seriously.

Awwww, yay Millie!
