The Devil's Nest, Tuesday Evening (05/29)

After a very brief and handwavy stop at the clinic to flail a little at Wilson about the events at the post office, Aziraphale bustled over to the Nest to get it ready for the night. Unhappily, it seemed all his fellow bartenders were decidedly clean sorts. Which meant he couldn't really work off his flailing through cleaning. Well, he could, but it seemed silly to do so.

Oh well, there was always rearranging the liquor bottles. Aziraphale decided that translating all the names of the different kinds of alcohol into the Greek alphabet and then arranging them accordingly sounded like a nice plan. And one that would keep him busy.

He would occasionally pluck at his shirt and peer inside the collar, though, to inspect the signature on his bicep he didn't dare yet remove and see if maybe it had faded of its own accord. And then he would turn bright red, and flail a little more, and busy himself with the bottle arranging again.

It was hard not to notice that Lucifer was watching him, and that only flustered Aziraphale that much more. Finally deciding that he really desperately needed a drink, he abandoned his alphabetizing project and poured himself a glass of scotch.

And because it wouldn't do to drink on the job and not pour one for your boss as well, Aziraphale walked down the bar and set a second glass in front of Lucifer.

A drink was always appreciated.

The more flustered the other angel got, the more amused Lucifer was, so of course he continued to watch him. To add to the annoyance, he made a point to leer at him on occasion.

Well, at least this was someone Aziraphale didn't mind leering at him?

Eventually, though, the silent amusement exhibited by the Adversary brought him back to that end of the bar. "Erm," the angel said.

Lucifer raised an eyebrow.

"Yes?"

"You...keep looking at me. Like I'm doing something funny?" he replied, fidgeting a bit and managing to look bashful and pleased all at the same time.

Yeah, Aziraphale hadn't gotten the clue that his embarassment was what the Adversary was finding so amusing.

Something that made it all the better for Lucifer.

He leaned forward over the bar to speak with him. "You seem awfully fidgety today. Is there a reason for that?"

"Oh, no reason!" Aziraphale replied, in an overly cheerful tone, unconsciously picking at his shirtsleeve. "I just like to keep busy, you know."

Millie made her way in looking for a drink and perhaps some company.

Aziraphale really was trying to make sure his actual job of tending bar got done tonight, so when Millie approached the bar, he set aside the bottle he'd been holding and walked over.

"Good evening, my dear," he said, smiling. "What may I get for you?"

"Aziraphale!" she said with delighted surprise. "How nice to see you here. Hmm... I usually order a dark ale. Unless there's something else you'd recommend? I'm afraid I don't know much about such things."

With a chuckle, Aziraphale gave a little shrug. "I'll be quite honest with you, Miss Millie. Usually I drink scotch or wine, or the occasional beer. I don't know much at all about mixed drinks. But don't tell the customers," he added, with a grin.

Pulling a mug from behind the bar, he filled it with a good dark ale and set it in front of Millie. "I hope you've been well?"

"Well, a bit concerned with the creature in the woods that was attacking people. And yesterday poor Lana came in to work in quite a bad state I made her lay down and rest of course, but she really shouldn't have come in." She made a little face, then smiled. "Other than that things are going quite well."

Immediately, Aziraphale's expression darkened, and he shook his head. "I'd heard about that, and James told me about the young people who were in the clinic. I appreciate you looking out for Miss Lang, she's a dear friend of mine."

He leaned on elbow on the bar, and tried not to frown too much. After all, at the least the creature had been caught and destroyed, and the students were all recovering. "I hope you've managed to see some of the better things the island has to offer, and not just these occasional strange bad ones."
