Luke's Diner, Thursday

So far, Thursday hadn't sucked. Actually, Thursday had been kinda nice. What with the wakeup call he got and everything. Mmm, that was one heck of a wake-up call.

Now, Jude was at work and totally not doodling plans for a bad-news-bomb shelter on a napkin in between kebabs. Really. Nor was he talking to a slightly bedraggled chocobo plushie.

The specials board had been amended with a note:

FREE MILKSHAKE FOR ANYONE WITH GOOD NEWS

"You know," Rikku said, eyeing the sign, "people are just gonna make up news to get free milkshakes. Like me. I totally have good news."

"Ummmm ..." Rikku bounced on her toes. "I ... brought you cookies? But they're invisible and they're waiting outside."

She leaned forward a little. "Or maybe I brought you kisses instead. One of the two. I forget."
the_merriest: (kiss me)

Which was a good thing, because Rikku leaned in closer, and she didn't have any cookies. At all.

Stan wandered in to get food. Food was good. Milkshake? Milkshake was better.

"Hello. Um. Dude." Stanley looked a bit out of place. "There was a sign about milkshakes?"

Haku had never been in the diner before, but Ed had handwavey told the girly boy to meet him there so they could make plans for their 'non-dangerous' prank on Aly.

He grabbed a booth towards the back and looked around the diner in awe. It sure beat the roadside booths they had at home.

"Hey Haku," Edward said with a wave and a grin as he slid into the booth across from him. "How are you?"

"Good," Haku smiled at him sweetly. "Yourself?"

It was obvious he was a little distracted by the diner atmosphere.

"Fantastic." He glanced around and grinned. "This is a neat place, huh? You don't look like you've ever been in a diner before."

"I haven't..." Haku blushed faintly. "We don't have them at home. The cloest things there are people set up small roadside stands, or cart things on wheels."

"Is your home less technological then?" Ed asked curiously.

"Yes and no," Haku said thoughtfully. It was kind of hard to say. "We have televisions, movies, radios, computers and music. But we don't have telephones, cars, planes, trains, guns. There are probably other things, but those are what I've noticed so far."

"Huh. You're going to have to tell me more about that one day," Edward said. "That sounds interesting. I wonder why the difference."

"I don't know. Maybe that people are content to walk everywhere. We have a great mail system, and with all the ninja there isn't a need for guns." It made sense to him anyway.

"So did you get the things for the prank?"

"Yep," Edward said with a grin. He pulled a box of ten pens out of his pocket. "Is that too many? You have to do the water trick first, right?"

Re: Grab a booth

[identity profile] snow-white-boy.livejournal.com 2007-06-01 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
"No, that looks like a good amount." Haku laid the pens out on the table in a row and closed his eyes, making a few brief hand sigils.

One of the pens sadly burst, but the others buldged a moment and then went back to 'normal'.

He watched curiously. "How'd you do that? And what exactly did you do to the ink?"

Re: Grab a booth

[identity profile] snow-white-boy.livejournal.com 2007-06-01 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
"I can manipulate water," Haku said wiping up the spilled ink off the table. "Anything liquid has some water in it. It's in my bloodline to be able to manipulate and change it. So I added more water to the pens to make the ink runny."

"Niiiice," Edward drawled, impressed. "That sounds great."

He picked up a pen to twirl it in his fingers for a moment then set it back down. Thoughtfully, he arranged all nine pens straight in a row then clasped his palms together and put his hands on all of them.

There was a flash of blue light and he grinned. "There we go. Time to be really, really gentle with them because they're extra fragile."

"I can handle them," Haku nodded confidently. "Any ideas on how to get them inside? I can sneak in, but it would be easier if she wasn't there."

Edward thought for a second then pulled out his book. "I'll be right back."

He walked quickly out the door to make a call at the payphone on the street.

After a few minutes, he came back to the diner and slid back into the booth.

"She's not answering the phone now. So you might have an open window."

Haku smirked mischeviously. "Perfect. Shall I meet you somewhere when I'm done?" He asked and carefully took a small knife roll out of his back pouch that held an assortment of acupunture needles. He replaced them with the pens and rolled it back upi securely.

"Could meet in the Park," Ed proposed. "I'll go wait there till you're done?"

Re: Grab a booth

[identity profile] snow-white-boy.livejournal.com 2007-06-01 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Deal, I'll see you there." Haku nodded and left the diner quickly.
