Fandom Post Office: Wednesday

Katara was neither late nor early to the post office.  Which makes this narrative decidedly unnecessary as she arrived and arrived in good time to say hello to Gladys, pet Not Tiddles, and open the doors so that the residents of Fandom may come and send their important and not-so-important mail.

It took him a while, but Chad finally pieced it together that, hey, Katara switched shifts and worked Wednesday now. "Letter," he announced as he came in, holding it up for proof as if she wouldn't believe him without physical evidence, "and a question for you, oh Best Roomie Ever." Having worked the past two nights, he hadn't gotten a chance to catch Katara at the room at all, woe.

"Hi," Chad grinned a little, handing the letter over so Katara could do all that awesome letter voodoo magic that she does. "How would you feel," he asked, leaning forward on the counter (carefully), "if we had another roommate livin' with us?"

Chad shook his head, still grinning a little. "Won't need one. She can sleep on my bed. Or yours sometimes, too, if you don't mind. Won't take up much room..."

"No, just a cat," Chad answered, although...if they could find a lemur... Maybe in the off chance that they had one, he'd get one. But he was aiming mostly for a cat. "Teddy an' me are gonna go to the mainland tomorrow an' get one."

There was a pause. "Uhhh, if that's okay with you, 'cause she'll stay with me."

That decided look of EEEEEEE was very, very cute. And great news. "Awesome." Thumbs up. And internal bouncing yays, though they did well to keep themselves below the surface.

"Can totally get toys," Chad said, already knowing he was going to spoil the crap out of this cat. "I'm goin' for a kitten, but I'm also going to the animal shelter, 'cause I wanna help a kitty that's been abandoned, so I don't know what they'll have or which one really just sorta....y'know, connects."

"Me neither," Chad admitted. "It needs to be Thursday now."

But, if he went back to the room and took a nap, hey, Thursday would come here sooner! That actually sounded like an amazing idea.

Naminé was wandering the streets a bit after her workshops and noticed Katara behind the counter of the post office. Which was perfect, actually, so maybe she should take that as a sign?

She stepped in, peering around the doorway, and smiled a bit. "Hello?"

"Katara," Naminé beamed, stepping into the post office. "So this is where the mail goes out? I suppose that's a dumb question, but I assure you, I have more where that one is from."

"How does that work, exactly?" Naminé shook her head. "Not the mechanics of it, which I wouldn't understand anyway, I fear. But ... how do you address things to alternate times and dimensions? I haven't coordinates."

"What if ..." Naminé looks down at her sketchpad for a long moment. "What if we wouldn't have an address there, either? I'd be just as at sea anywhere, I think."

"I wonder ... if I just wrote a name, if it would get where I wanted it to go." Naminé looked down for a second, and then up at Katara again. "It seems as though the machinery here is a bit mystical in its operations. It couldn't hurt to try, could it?"

Naminé flipped to a page in her sketchbook and tore out a picture of a blue-haired boy in a blindfold (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Rellyjean/namine/drawings/anoldfriend.jpg). After a few moments of staring at it, she picked up a pencil and wrote, on the far edge of the margin,

Light will never give up on you.

She nodded decidedly and then folded the paper over a few times, and on the blank side wrote in big letters:

RIKU

She handed it to Katara, swallowing nervously and not sure why. "If it is lost forever, I suppose I'm only out a sketch," she said, hoping she sounded calm. "Thank you."

Naminé nodded, wondering why she felt almost sad. Her emotions were so unpredictable lately.

She smiled back at Katara almost wistfully. "If I get a response, I shall let you know. I won't expect one, but ... it ... it would be very nice indeed."

"I promise I shall tell you as soon as I know." Naminé bit her lip. "He ... the person may not write back in any case, even if it does reach him. But I would like to think that he might."
