The Park, Wedndesday Morning
The ducklings continued to swarm around his feet, but Lucifer paid them no mind.
Other than, that is, the strange appearance of crumbs nearby them to prevent the small birds from brooding on his shoes.

He was drawn to the park, of course, and moreso when he saw the familiar figure on the bench. Taking a seat quietly next to Lucifer, Aziraphale watched the ducklings peck about for their breadcrumbs.

"Are things...as they should be now?" he asked softly.

"I never...saw such things before. I suppose it's because I've been inhabiting the mortal world for so long. Or maybe it's just my own blindness. But I never realized there was...so much there, beyond Heaven and the world."
He'd never seen the Hell that existed in his dimension, and so couldn't speak to what might be there. But Aziraphale was certainly reevaluating what he'd always believed was there.

"They have a tendency to ignore what does not fit into the official view of the universe, I suppose it should not be surprising that you were unaware."

Okay, yes, Aziraphale had sort of pushed that whole issue to the back of his head. It had been too strange to think on, and until now he hadn't really had reason to want to understand. So with a sigh, he nodded and looked down at his shoes.
"I know. I've let myself be fooled, and not tried enough to make sense of things. I've never really been that curious, Lucifer. I suppose it's why it took me so long to learn as much about the mortal world as I know now. And even that's not much to boast about. Although knowing James has been a blessing in that regard."
Aziraphale frowned, and ran a finger over the ring that encircled his finger.

He looked up at Lucifer, his eyes tinted with gray. "You've always questioned, Lucifer. I never have, not really. Not unless it was to try and keep up with Crowley's ideas. It's...a little frightening."

"No. I would rather know the truth. Even if I'm not yet certain what to do with it."
no subject
"Good."

And maybe it was also who he was now, after. Aziraphale had always had a great deal of difficulty with the idea of basing his opinions of a person simply on which side of an argument they'd chosen.
"I...haven't talked to James very much about what happened," he admitted, the words coming very softly. "I've been a little afraid to, because I'm not sure to say. And I'm afraid, now that our bond is broken, he won't want it back."
no subject
"Has he threatened you for having wings again?"
no subject
Aziraphale rubbed a hand over his eyes. "I know what you're thinking, Lucifer. You're thinking 'why does he tell me this, instead of talking to James about it'. Which is what I should do, of course. But the thing is, I don't think I can fix it. And I'm a little afraid that Above won't be willing to do it a second time. So...I suppose maybe I'm also afraid that James will want it back, and I'll disappoint him."
Yes, indeed, Aziraphale was capable of achieving great heights of stupidity when he really tried.

"You're ruining my dithering," he said, his voice carrying a hint of amusement. "And of course you're right, but don't you think you'd get awfully bored if I always figured that out first off, and didn't give you the chance to remind me of it?"
Taking a deep breath, the angel sat back against the bench, looking a great deal calmer. "I suppose you aren't the sort who talks to anyone about what you're thinking, but I would be happy to listen, Lucifer, if you ever did."
no subject
"I will keep that in mind."
no subject
"I'm glad that I was able to help you. And I'm glad that you're all right. I'm afraid that I'm not really sorry that I pushed you, but I hope you won't mind that very much."
He smiled again, and leaned over to kiss the Adversary lightly on the cheek. "And I'm glad that you're here, Lucifer. Even if it isn't exactly the sort of thing Above would like to hear."
no subject
Lucifer placed his hand on the side of Aziraphale's face, just looking at him. "I must say that I am also glad to be as I should," He said, running his thumb over the angel's temple.
"Go. Talk to him."
no subject
"He's working this morning, but I'll talk to him tonight, I promise."
He wanted to thank Lucifer, for his patience, and for his advice. But knowing how the Adversary felt about such things, he kept silent. Although he imagined the other angel knew, whether it was voiced or not.
"Have a good day, Lucifer," Aziraphale said softly, with another quick smile before he straightened and headed back across the park.
