Devil's Nest, Wednesday Night 6/20

It didn't take too long to get the Devil's Nest into cleaned-and-ready condition. Of course, that could have been because Kabuto was bored and practicing with cloning, so it hadn't taken nearly as long as it would have otherwise.

When the place was thoroughly cleaned, he opened it for business and settled in behind the bar. Tonight he had a notebook, and was writing a list in a foreign language ~~not unlike Japanese~~. Occasionally he'd look up, smirk, and go back to writing.

Order a drink, or talk to the friendly-but-creepy ninja.

Lucifer took a seat at the bar, terribly amused by the cleanliness all his bartenders were so fastidious in attaining.

"Kabuto."

"Yes?" Kabuto asked absently, adding something to his list.

"A drink, as that is what I pay you for."

"What would you like?" The ninja looked up, smirking slightly.

Tsk. Cheeky boy.

"Surprise me."

Naturally.

Kabuto studied the bottles for a moment, recalling the right recipe before putting the drink (http://www.drinksmixer.com/drink248.html) together and setting it in front of Lucifer.

Then, of course, he went back to writing.

Cute. Very cute.

Lucifer sipped his drink slowly, eyes focused on nothing in particular. Just... thinking.

A dangerous thing for him to do.

Kabuto was nothing if not polite. So of course he wouldn't interrupt Lucifer's thoughts. Interrupting the former Prince of Hell would, after all, be terribly rude.

"...Busy day?"

Oh well. Can't win 'em all.

But the rudeness was aways interesting to see. "No more than usual."

It must've been something in the air. "You seem more out of it than usual," Kabuto replied bluntly.

"I had an... interesting weekend," Lucifer replied easily. He sipped the drink again before setting it aside to light up a cigarette.

Kabuto shrugged slightly, glancing up from his notebook. "You seem to have made it out with a minimum of scarring."

Lucifer raised an eyebrow. "You say that as if I can scar."

"Oh, sorry about that." Kabuto smirked slightly. "I forgot." He could be a good liar when he chose. This was not one of those times.

Besides, lying would be silly around Lucifer. "And I returned to some rather interesting voicemails."

"That happened to you to?" He shook his head, thinking back on the weird weekend. "That was bizarre."

"Yes, it would seem I have a date with Miss Harvelle."

Kabuto nearly choked, pen scratching through the page. Very few things got that sort of reaction from him. "...What?"

Exhaling smoke, Lucifer put the cigarette out. "Yes. It was quite the surprise."

"No kidding," Kabuto muttered, looking down to hide the blush creeping into his face. He wasn't supposed to react like that.

Lucifer smiled, sharp with a twisted sort of amusement over the calm and collected little ninja losing his cool.

"Is something the matter, Kabuto? I dare say you look a bit warm."

Kabuto forced himself into at least an outward seeming of calm. "Should something be the matter?" he asked in reply. "I think your ego is big enough as it is."

"I was simply asking after your health," Lucifer replied, smirk never wavering. "Why ever would that be a boost to my ego?"

"Because with you, one can never be too sure." The ninja frowned at the hole in his page of notes, pulling it out and turning it over so he could draw the proper symbols on it.

He wasn't making a low-grade exploding tag right there in the bar. Whatever gave you that idea?

Lucifer would never make such an assumption, of course. Terribly rude that.

"I can't be worried about a valued employee?"

Kabuto shook his head slightly. Finishing the symbols, he looked at it critically, then offered it to Lucifer. "Feel like exploding anything?"

Takign the tag, Lucifer looked it over critically. "No. I have little use for such small magics."

Kabuto shrugged. "Okay." Reaching out, he touched the edge of the tag to set it burning, then settled back to writing a new list.

Laughing at the attempt, Lucifer crushed the note in his hand, snuffing out the flame and explosion before it could happen.

"Fire was a bad choice," He said, leaving a small pile of ash on the bar.

"Are you sure it wasn't a good choice?" Kabuto asked sweetly, finishing the characters he was working on before looking up. "You automatically assume the worst of me, don't you?"

Fire danced around the paper Kabuto was working on, not consuming it, just... there.

"Was it incorrect?"

Kabuto watched the fire with calm interest. "Was what incorrect?"

"Playing the fool does not suit you," Lucifer replied.

"If you always assume the worst about me, how will you know when I'm actually being sincere?" Kabuto asked, holding his hand above the flames.

The flames rose, hot enough to burn if the ninja wasn't quick.

"Oh, I'm sure I could tell if you were sincere."

Kabuto jerked his hand back, frowning at the singed palm of his glove. "...How useful. Then you have no need to question me, do you?"

The fire moved toward Lucifer, trailing up into his outstretched hand. "I find your reactions worth the effort."

"I'm so glad to be an amusement for you," Kabuto said flatly, pulling his gloves off and setting them on the shelf beneath the bar.

Lucifer closed his hand, snuffing the flames with a small puff of smoke. "So temperamental," He teased.

"Only sometimes," the ninja replied. "You seem to enjoy it." He pushed his glasses up, still vaguely annoyed.

Relax, talk, play pool...etc.

Dance! Unless you're not a big fan of bouncy J-pop. You'll have to take that one up with the bartender.

Wow, this week has been draining for no apparent reason. But I will be here all night except for when I'm not!
