He should really improve the library here, Gabriel told himself. The Bible and the hymnbooks didn't last that long and it looked like he might be stuck here for some time.

Lucifer took a seat in one of the back pews, arms spread over the back as he looked up at the alter.

It was less cleanly than it had been while the nun had been here, but then again, Gabriel lacked a little demonic pet to keep everything in order.

Shame.

Gabriel looked out from behind the altar - he'd figured it was a good place to hide - and glared at he noticed Lucifer. "Here to darken my day?"

Lucifer smirked at him. "Now, I would be remiss in my calling if I did that."

"Is this just a social call? Any news you'd like to share with me about this quaint little town?" Gabriel rose and took a seat on the altar instead, pushing an empty vase to the side.

"Am I not allowed to visit a church on occasion?" Lucifer asked, the picture of wounded innocence. "Perhaps I wished to communicate with the Father."

Yes and maybe he also wanted to give Gabriel a big hug and restore him to his status once more.

Or not. Not might be the safer bet.

"I thought you'd given up talking to Him a long time ago. 'Better reign in Hell than serve in Heaven' and all that." Gabriel even looked vaguely amused. "So I assume you have another reason to show up here. And unfortunately we don't even have a choir for your entertainment."

Lucifer nodded, the other angel's assessment was true enough.

"Well," He said, leaning forward. "It seems I will have to find my entertainment in you then."

"Like I expected." Gabriel didn't look like he intended to make an effort to make Lucifer feel at home.

And Lucifer didn't look as though he was bothered by this. on the contrary, he made himself comfortable in the pew, idly picking up one of the hymnals.

Gabriel chose to ignore him and picked up a Bible.

Two beings of nearly infinite patience ignoring each other.

This... could take a while.

Lucifer turned a page carefully.

Showing no sign of losing his patience, Gabriel turned to Revelation. That book always cheered him up.

Lucifer would be hurt to learn that his presence made Gabriel need to be cheered up by the apocalypse.

Really he would be.

Unaware of the narrative though, Lucifer turned another page slowly.

And now Gabriel really wished there was a more extensive library around. He'd actually read through the Bible twice since his arrival.

If he asked nicely, Lucifer might help with his reading woes.

The sound of paper against paper as Lucifer turned another page.

Of course, Gabriel wouldn't ask anyone nicely, let alone Lucifer. He turned another page, still wondering what Lucifer was really after.

Gabriel really wished he could stretch his wings out here. It would have looked impressive and perhaps just vaguely threatening. Another of the disadvantages of being human.

Oh, come on, Lucifer must appreciate the old angelic pasttime of staring suspiciously at each other with wings extended, much like cats.

It was a magnificent past time, true. But it was also a very boring one.

Now if they felt the need to examine the swords of fire they were granted, that might be entertaining.

Gabriel was sadly lacking that sword of fire too. But he did play the trumpet.

Such a sad day when the angel--pardon--- former angel of death was weaponless.

Though it might be interesting to hear him play the trumpet. They could jam together as Lucifer played the piano.

Just because he lacked weapons at the moment didn't mean Gabriel had lost his attitude. Although a trumpet vs piano duel was still a possibility.
