Ching Tai [Sunday Evening]

Fraser's waiting just inside the door of the restaurant, trying to look as a suave as possible. Of course, if you know Fraser, you know that's not very suave at all. He keeps straightening up or combing fingers through his hair to check for cowlicks and the odd hair that wants to stick up.

Throughout the entire walk into town, he'd eyed the sky, checking for aliens or any other invader that might choose to take his words from yesterday and turn them on their head. Luckily, besides an errant rock that he'd nearly slipped on, everything was normal.

[Up early so I don't forget omg. Fraser's here for Ellen but open for your dining needs.]

Fraser might recognise the Hat on the figure that zoomed by him at top speed, trailing the Maple Leaf Forever.

He was singing it, too.

He just didn't know all the words.

Ellen did in fact own a skirt and a nice, blouse-y shirt, and this did seem like the opportunity to wear them. A little bit of make-up, some extra care with her hair, and soon she was spotting Fraser as she came into the restaurant, smiling. "Benton. Fancy seein' you here."

"Well, I hope you haven't been waiting too long," she said, trying not to seem nervous. Not that she was, or at least not very much, but it had been a long time since her last date...

"Thank you," Ellen said, pleased. "You do too, and did you just say a student took your hat?"

"Are they in fashion?" She asked, bemused, as she took his arm.

Ellen sat down with a smile of gratitude. "Probably for the novelty, then. I'll bet most of these kids have never seen a real live Mountie before," she said.

"You could've been out an expensive coat, or a nice pair of boots," Ellen agreed. "So how long have you been a Mountie, by the way?"

"What were you in Chicago for?" she asked, picking up one of the menus that the waiter dropped by and opening it to skim the contents.

Ellen's expression became solemn, voice lowering slightly as she gave him a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry to hear that," she said. "Did you do it? Solve the crime, I mean."

She smiled. "I have a tavern back in Nebraska, name of Harvelle's Roadhouse, that I plan on going back to someday," she said. "Been keeping that place going since before Jo was born."

Ellen sighed and looked pained. "Did she threaten you?"

[identity profile] roadhousequeen.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Another sigh. "Lord, that girl..." She gave Fraser an apologetic look. "I'm sorry."

"Somehow I think no matter what you said, Jo would be thinking it was indecent," Ellen said dryly. She smiled as she looked at Benton, curious. "Have you ever been married?"

Okay, that gave her pause. "Not legally?" She cocked an eyebrow. "Or is that the kind of story you need to tell with a lot more alcohol?"

"Awww, that's sweet," Ellen said, grinning. "So the kids had their own day? I'm glad to hear it, but I don't envy y'all that had to watch 'em."
