Café Fina, Thursday

Naminé had never given much thought to what music would suit her, if it were to spontaneously follow her around for a day or so.

He's a complicated man, but no one understands him but his woooooooman!

If she had thought about it, she might have selected something classical, a piano piece perhaps; maybe something with sweeping orchestrals.

At the car wash, whoa whoa whoa whoa
Talkin' 'bout the car wash, girl

It would probably not have been soul funk from the 1970s. And yet, it seemed oddly fitting.

She's a brick .... hooooooooooouse
She's mighty, mighty, lettin' it all hang out

Cafe Fina has never been this groovy. It's open, for all you cool cats and hep gangstas.

After a very disturbing, rather confusing and completely handwavey pick up, Turtle and the permissibly modded Jeff made their way to Cafe Fina, with the former wondering if she had made a really, really big mistake. This better be worth quitting supermodeling for...

She scooted in her chair and wondered if she'd have to do the fancy napkin in the nap thing. "Well," she sighed. "Here we are." And not a moment too soon. After all, what could go wrong here....?

Jeff, on the other hand, had assumed an expression caught somewhere between 'desperate' and 'horribly confused'. He was wearing his best clothes (now what are you packing those for, Jeffrey? It's not as if you'll ever make use of them!) but the effect had been lost a bit due to the scratches and pawprints he'd acquired after he'd tried to lock The Dog inside his room.

He had several large cowlicks in his hair, expertly fastened by Saint Bernard spit. No amount of trying had gotten them to smooth down.

"Yes," he said, "We are. Aren't we?" He really wasn't sure.

"No," Turtle said, rolling her eyes, "we hopped a portal over to China, and they happen to have singing plates there, too."

"Actually," her head tilted, "I've noticed none of the plates have started singing yet. Maybe they'll forget, or they just figured that with all the music today, it isn't worth while..."

Meanwhile, Turtle's date clothes seemed to be exactly the same thing she was wearing at work earlier, but she'd put a barrette in her hair. Ta-da!

"There's singing plates?" he asked, perking up. "I always thought that was just my imagination." Jeff grinned dorkily.

He also hoped fervently that the voices wouldn't start into profane songs again. That seemed to happen to him a lot today.

"Mmhm," Turtle nodded. "One of the draws of Cafe Fina since the new owner took over has been its musical cutlery, dishes and other kitchen accessories. Not only will you receive fine dining, you will receive it with flair, color, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

Turtle...read a lot of business reports. Actually, in fact, that one was from one she wrote. She had a whole stack of them. She called it 'research and observance of competition in the Greater Fandom Area.'

"When I was a kid I used to imagine the plates would talk to me," said Jeff. He still did. Except now with magazines. "Of course, they were mostly shouting, not singing."

"Seriously?" Turtle asked. "Uh, um...well, what did they say? Or, um....shout?"

"'It's alive!', mostly," Jeff said. "Sometimes they'd lecture me on eating things I hadn't killed with my own bare hands. I think they were conspiring with my mother."

Blink.

"Did...you....kill...many things...with your bare hand, there, Jeff?" Turtle asked, not sure she wanted an answer, looking around for whatever salt shaker or asparagus cooker was going to take their order.

Jeff blinked. "Of course not," he said, chuckling nervously, "That would have been mad." He studied the tablecloth.

Lumiere came to his senses inside a closet, wondering why there was 70's funk interrupting his catchy, albeit muffled, musical number.
And then he realized that he had, in fact, been singing his catchy musical number for... quite some time, actually.
And that was about the time that, if they weren't currently tied up behind his back, he'd have been burying his face in his candles and weeping.

In any case, he wasn't singing.

Lumiere managed a muffled "mmmphmrrpm moommmmph" and eyed the pepper-shaker while he worked on untying him. It wasn't an angry look, per se, but it certainly wasn't a pleased one.
When at last his mouth was freed, he took a deep breath before speaking at last.
"Necessary, non? ... Necessary, oui! 'Ow long was I singing zat song?"

"Is 'zat so?" Lumiere stared incredulously at Naminé, his eyes going wide. "You've been running 'ze café while I was... indisposed, 'zen?"
...
This couldn't possibly end well.

Lumiere noticed the exeunt of the pair and raised an eyebrow momentarily. "I do appreciate 'zat," he said, carefully. His memory was a little muddled around all of that singing, but he was starting to distinctly remember how he wound up in that closet in the first place.
He swallowed a lump in his throat and decided to proceed only with extreme caution.
"I do 'ope 'zat it was not too much of an inconvenience," he said quickly once his brain fired up again. "If 'zere is anything 'zat I can do to make up for it? A raise, perhaps? Take 'ze rest of 'ze day off?"

If he has background music today, he'll be rather thankful that it is, in fact, not a certain song pertaining to snacks in a lobby.
