The Arms Hotel Lobby, Wednesday

Mary still wasn't 100% after her head injury, but she was bored with sleeping in her room and Gunther always complained when he had to watch the front desk.

After 20 minutes, Mary had taken to sleeping on a couch in the lobby.

If you have any hotel business with Mary. Or, you know, you could yell at her for not watching her back.

Savannah came to see Mary, but when she saw she was sleeping, she left the flowers she had brought her and tiptoed back out.

Mary sensed movement, and there was someone who might be checking in today, so she opened her eyes and sat up.

"Hi Savannah. You don't have to leave. I'm awake, sorta," she said.

Savannah stopped and turned around. "Hey, Mary. I heard you were hurt and I wanted to come check on you."

"I'm doing better," said Mary. "At least I was well enough to sneak out of the clinic on Monday and someone told me that the creature that attacked me was in worse shape," she added with a smile.

"Do you want to sit down?" Mary asked.

"I'm glad you're okay," she said sincerely as she sat down. "I got worried when I heard."

"Thanks," said Mary. "It was a stupid move on my part to go after one of those creatures on my own. Normally, I would have been the one insisting that someone go with back-up. Were there a lot of people injured? There was a lot of commotion at the clinic when I was there, but I can't remember much of that."

Savannah shook her head. "I'm not sure how many were hurt, but I don't think there were a lot. And... I rarely go with back up when I think something needs to be done."

"At least there was no permanent damage and no one killed, from what the staff at the hotel tells me," said Mary. "I still can't believe it and I took a picture of one Friday night. I mean, dinosaurs?"

"Yeah, I know. It definitely wasn't something I ever expected to see."

"At least I wasn't stuck dwelling on the really bad date I had on Friday," said Mary with a sigh. "The dinosaurs were pretty straightforward. Boys? Not so much."

Savannah frowned. "Do I need to hit someone for you?"

She really would.

"Boys are confusing."

"They are," said Mary. "There's a new teacher who kept trying to invite himself up to my room, but when we go out to Caritas, he ditched me in less than five minutes by calling me a lemon and invoking the Lemon Law. I couldn't believe it."

Mary didn't need anyone to hit Barney for her. She was willing to trash his reputation so he couldn't get another date.

Savannah's eyes widened and then hardened. "You are most definitely not a lemon, whatever that is. Who?"

"Barney Stinson," said Mary. "Oddly enough, someone told me that he teaches a class on how to pick up girls."

She couldn't help yawning. Hadn't she slept enough already?

Savannah shook her head. "He must not be very good at it, then."

"He got me to go out with him, didn't he? Of course, he didn't seem to know what to do after that," said Mary with a smirk.

Savannah laughed. "Some guys know nothing but how to get the date. It's sad, really."

"They'd be lost without us guiding them," added Mary, fighting another yawn.

"Sorry, but all my brain seems to want to do these days is sleep," she said apologetically.

"You were hurt," Savannah reminded her. "I need to run some errands anyway. Get some rest and call me if you need anything."

"Will do," said Mary. "Thanks for stopping by. It's nice to have someone to talk to. I came from such a tight-knit group of people in Las Vegas and it's been so scary being here on my own."

"Well, you have me now," Savannah said with a smile. "Get rest, Mary."

Sean figured that instead of spending another night in the motel he'd been staying in -- nice little place, really, just outside of town -- he'd head on over and check into the Montecito. Or at least get things started, as he wasn't sure whether or not he'd be able to just up and move in.

Though he was a bit taken aback by the sight of the front desk woman -- he figured that was who she was, since the desk was empty -- conked out on the couch. He stood there for a moment, trying to decide whether to wake her or not. She looked like she needed the sleep.

Even when sleeping, Mary could tell when someone else entered the room. It was another sad legacy of a less-than-perfect childhood. She opened her eyes and looked at Sean.

"Is there something I can help you with?"

"Quite probably," he said with a careful smile. "I'm Sean Nast. I called the other night, about monthly rates..."

"Okay. I was expecting you today. Welcome to the ~~Montecito~~ Arms Hotel. Did you have any sort of room preference?"

Mary yawned. "Please excuse me. I'm not actually supposed to be back to work yet. I got attacked by a saber-toothed tiger over the weekend," she said, looking apologetic.

"As long as it's nice, I'm a happy camper -- and since that's quite obviously not going to be a problem here, I'm good to go." He gave her a dorky little smile. "And... saber-toothed tiger?"

Mary smirked. "I can assure you that we don't regularly get pre-historic creatures at this hotel. In fact, we go to great lengths to keep our guests safe. This one caught me by surprise out in front of the hotel," she said.

"Why don't you sign the guest register while I see what's available?" Mary asked, pointing to the antique book at the front desk.

"Oh, good," Sean said with a laugh. "Pre-historic creatures would be a bit nerve-wracking." He gave her a smile before making his way over to the front desk, picking up a pen and opening the book.

Mary slipped behind the desk and opened up a cabinet full of keys. "What's your favorite number?"

"Hm... fifteen. Or twenty-one. Toss-up, really." And they weren't really favorites so much as numbers that had meaning. But close enough.

"I have room 321 available," said Mary. "It's got a nice view of the town. Will that work?"

"Works perfectly," Sean said with a nod.

"Here's your room key, then," said Mary. "If you need anything, I'm in room 422 or you can just leave me a message. In fact, I think I need to get Gunther to watch the front desk and just go back to my room for a nap," she added with a yawn.

Because without this, the dead come back to life and there will be no undead in this hotel. At least, not yet. *insert evil laugh here*

Jeff says plz no unded in hz workplace, he's got issues enough already.

Poor Jeff.

So when the zombies attack, Jeff wants that week off?

Jeff's willing to settle for a shotgun, some Playboy centerfolds and a Jenny Agutter flick.

Actually, come to think of it, he prefers settling.

... Hey, when the zombies show up, Mary can automatically trump Danny and the others any time they complain about their work being insane. "Oh, yeah? Well... I HAD ZOMBIES."

Thank you. You just made me laugh and I really needed to do that right now.

Bonus points for it being over the phone. Because you just know she'd be on speaker. And Mike and Danny would just be looking at each other and mouthing "... Zombies?"

Seriously, she did just e-mail Mike with a dinosaur picture from this weekend and ask if he could lighten it up a bit.
