Before heading into work himself, Jude detoured by the bookstore, nervously fumbling with something in his pocket. He had debated long and hard whether the suit was necessary but decided that he didn't really want to wear the suit to work after, so had gone without.
Jude leaned in abruptly, dropping his voice. "I have to ask out a girl but if I actually go out with a girl then Rikku will dump me or kill me or both," he said quickly.
Lana picked up on what he meant quickly. "So if you ask me out, you've done your class assignment, but since you know I'll say no... Rikku won't kill you."
"Good idea, bra," Jude nodded. "Okay." He turned and hurried out. A second later he hurried back in, a little red light and lens visible from his closed hand. He was clearly attempting to look suave.
"Hey, bra. My day just got so much better, seeing you." Oops. He had forgotten to explain the 'crappy pick up lines' portion of the assignment. He fought the urge to facepalm.
"Oh," Lana said with a smile. "That's so nice of you to say." She might just have figured it out. Or she might just think this would be Jude's way of asking someone out.
He leaned against the counter and decided to use one more of the bad lines, just for good measure. But out of range of the camera he indicated it was the only reason and please don't hurt him.
Her eyes widened and she opened her mouth to say something, then changed her mind and smiled at him. "Oh, you're so sweet," she said. "What a darling thing to say."
That was enough. "So I was thinking, would you join me for the movie on Wednesday? You, me, a little picnic for the two of us . . ."
So they happened to be his plans with Rikku. Still worked. He tried to be confident but sweet at the same time and rather thought he came off sounding like Jonesy.
"Oh, Jude," Lana said looking sad. "I'd love to, but I can't. Really. I'm dating Jim and it just wouldn't be right. Plus, if he found out... well, you know how jealous Jim can get. But otherwise, I'd totally go out with you."
"Probably," Lana said. "But don't worry, I'll tell him it was a school thing and you asked me first and that you picked me because you knew I was so in love with him I'd say no and then Rikku wouldn't kill you. He'll understand."

"Too bad," he said regretfully. "But if you change your mind, you know where to find me."
Oh crap, Jim. Jude really hoped he didn't find out about this.

So he turned the camera off.
"Thank you so much, bra."
