Luke's Diner, Monday

Jude had found the solution to his problem and so, in a very good mood, bounced into the diner and thoroughly irritated the kitchen staff with said good mood before settling down with some cheesecake.

For experimentation, not eating!

He's doing something interesting with cherries.

Rikku bounced into the diner in the afternoon, trying very, very hard not to think about the letter she'd got that morning but blushing a little when she saw Jude anyway. She attempted to cover it up by striking a pose.

"So," she announced. "I am totally going to help you with this whole, asking out some other girl thing. Does that make me the awesomest girlfriend ever, or do I have to give you illicit smoochies at work for that?"

"Already got it covered," he chuckled, leaning forward on the counter. "But you are the awesomest girlfriend at work, and I can probably totally use the practice."

"Oh, rats." Rikku leaned across the counter for a quick kiss. "She said no, right? I don't have to kill her or anything? And you totally don't need the practice 'cause when are you gonna be asking out other girls, hmmm?"

"Total no. And she didn't hurt me, either." He stole another light kiss. "But I still gotta ask you out. So I need practice."

"She better not have hurt you! I'd have to kill her twice for that." Look, logic didn't need a place in Rikku's wrath, okay?

She giggled again. "Oh. Well, when you put it like that ... I suppose I should let you practice, then. For a good cause and all."

She totally wasn't doing the diva thing. At all. Much.

Jude held up a finger. "Hang on." He turned away, digging in his pocket for something.

Rikku pulled her hair out of its ponytail and shook it out, doing her very best patiently-waiting-diva.

Jude turned around, the impressive handlebar moustache more commonly found in a paramedic's disguise firmly on his face. "Hey, baby, want a free moustache ride?"

Rikku burst out laughing. And then dashed behind the counter and pounced.

"Sold," she grinned. "When do you get off?"

The moustache was perhaps less firmly attached at this point.

Guh . . . words . . . talking . . .

"Seven," he yelped, the moustache sagging all down one side.

Rikku rolled her eyes with a laugh, wandering back to the other side of the counter. "You're not very good at this cheesy-line thing, y'know. You're supposed to be all 'whenever you do, baby.'"

Jude facepalmed, genuinely contrite. "Sorry. I suck."

She grinned. "It's okay! I grew up with guys. I'm pretty sure I know most of the really bad ones. Lemme see."

She considered for a moment, then leaned across the counter and tried to seem suave. "Are you tired?" she asked, struggling to keep a straight face. "Cause you've been running through my mind all night."

Jude snickered, leaning in. "Nice legs, what time do they open?"

Rikku giggled. "Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk by here again?"

"Uh . . ." Jude was swiftly running out of them. "I've just moved you to the top of my to-do list?"

"That outfit would look great crumpled up on my floor," Rikku giggled. "You know, I got to overhear the guys using these lines on girls when I was like, ten. I gotta say, they're even funnier when you actually get them."

Jude blushed a little and leaned even more forward. "You know you can see this outfit crumpled on your floor any time you ask," he murmured. And he wasn't joking.

Rikku blushed even harder, trying not to think about the letter and whether he meant all of that outfit and whether she wanted him to mean all of it and ... whoa.

"And they say pick-up lines don't work," she grinned, leaning in for a quick kiss. "And probably not my floor, 'cause Hermione might object and all."

"She's too tidy," Jude agreed, grinning back and purposefully missing the point.

"Way too tidy," Rikku agreed, giggling, and then did her very best Hermione-voice. "'Oh, honestly, Rikku. It's bad enough when your clothes are left lying around, and now you've started tossing his all about as well? And tell Jude to put something on already, I'm trying to study.'"

Jude buried his face in his arms on the counter, giggling like mad.

"Someone should try those lines on Hermione," Rikku mused. "Just to get The Look from her. That'd be so great."

"Uh . . . someone other than me?"

Rikku laughed. "Oh, man, if you had to pull this crap on someone already, you are so off the hook on this one. I'll get someone else to do it."

"I didn't bring out any of the really good ones," Jude admitted. "Just a 'how was Heaven when you left?'"

Rikku giggled madly. "Oh, man, that's awesome. Did she think you were crazy?"

"Nah, she was actually really nice about it," Jude blushed a little.

"That's sweet," Rikku said with a light kiss. "I mean, so long as she wasn't too nice. Like, 'awww, Jude, sorry, I can't,' is okay, but 'call me sometime if I'm single' means I gotta get the bimbo stick out."

Jude looked sheepish. "I, uh, might have said that."

Rikku blinked. "You might have said 'call me if I'm single'?"

"'Call me if you're single'?"

Rikku blinked again, raising an eyebrow. "This ... is supposed to make me feel better?"

"No . . ." Jude admitted, looking down at the counter. "But I thought I'd be honest?"

"Great," she said softly, folding her arms. "Hey, at least if we have a nasty break-up, you've got a headstart on looking, right?"

"What?" Jude looked up at her. "Huh? It - it was just a line. For the camera."

Rikku stared for a moment, and then facepalmed.

And then grabbed the front of his shirt and kissed him, hard, only stopping to facepalm again.

"Okay," she said. "I'm officially stupid and nervous and crazy. You don't get to call me the brains any more, 'cause I don't have any. Don't scare me like that, yeah?"

"O-okay," Jude stammered, thoroughly bewildered and a little nervous himself.

Rikku cupped his face and gave him a very quick kiss. He was at work. No molesting the work-Jude.

"You, uh, you said that like you meant ... never mind." She leaned her forehead on his and giggled. "Tell your professor that your girlfriend seriously disapproves of this assignment, yeah?"

"Totally," he smiled a little. "I'll let him know. He says I'm already lost when I said your eyes are pretty."

Rikku grinned. "See, that's silly of him, 'cause when you say that, I do this."

This kiss was slightly longer than the regulations specified for kissing-Jude-at-work. Oh well.

Jude was left slumped against the counter, a little dazed. ". . . I love you, bra."

Rikku grinned. "I love you, too. And Captain Kickflip can so use those lines on me any time."

"I'll let him know." Jude fixed his moustache, which had fallen off about three kisses ago, and waggled his eyebrows at her.

Rikku giggled. "And mustaches rides. Totally holding you to that."

She managed to say it without turning bright red, too.

Jude flashed her a thumbs up. "Anything you want, baby," he said suavely. A corner of his moustache peeled down. He hastily poked it back into place and resumed his suave look.

And mod your service.

So we don't fall out.
