The Arms Hotel Lobby, Thursday

After last night's radio, Mary was feeling worse than she did the day Casey Manning stood her up at Delinda Deline's wedding, which had to be pretty bad because that's also the day she found out that Danny and Delinda were sleeping together. Again. If there was one thing that could cheer her up, it was baking.

Mary was dressed for the occasion in the tightest jeans she owned and her favorite cowboy boots. She was tired of men in suits.

He might be pouting over the failure of his Guntherburgers.

John saw the sign, and it opened up his eyes. First, some salmon tempura, then a quick retreat to his room when it was done.

Free desserts? Oh yeah!

Okay. Maybe after some more salmon tempura...

Especially if you're wearing the cowboy get-up and want your free cookies.

River, who wasn't wearing the cowboy get-up, entered the lobby, and walked up to Mary. "Wasn't quite myself last Friday," she announced. "But I was here."

"Last Friday," said Mary, trying hard not to think about having dinner with Johnny Storm last Friday night. "Oh, you were the owl?"

"Yes," River replied, then grinned widely. Trying not to think about things always gave it away.

It would be easier not to think about him if she still didn't feel like an idiot after listening to last night's radio.

"Well, you were a very well-behaved owl and watched the front desk the entire time," said Mary. "In fact, you even inspired Gunther. The special of the day was Birds Nest Soup."

Of course, River didn't think that Mary was a fool, or cared about who she went to dinner with, as long as she enjoyed herself. She smiled at the mention at the specail of the day, though. "Will let him know I appreciate being a source of inspiration."

John came back, wearing his engineer motorcycle boots, ~~tight~~jeans, ~~assless~~ chaps, and a horribly plaid shirt. And a cowboy hat that had seen better days. And that's as cowboy as Johnny gets.

"Hey, Mary," he waved.

"I love it!" said Mary, laughing. "You definitely get a cookie."

"Aw, only one?" he teased.

"Well, what else do you want?" asked Mary in a very flirty manner.

"Oh, I'm not sure. What's on the menu?" he asked oh-so-innocently.

"Whatever you want," answered Mary with a coy smile.

"MMm, that's a mighty faaahn offer, there, Missy," he said with an exaggerated cowboy accent. "I might'n want to take a lot." He shifted his weight ~~to flex his ass~~ and put his hands on his hips.

Mary giggled. "What did you have in mind?" she asked.

"I could want a lot, I reckon," he said, giving her an almost-comedic once over. "Wouldn't wan ter be run outta town on a rail fer rustlin' none." He winked.

He lowered his voice and stepped in a bit closer, not wanting anyone to overhear. "I still have yer shootin' iron, should you want it back."

"I don't think anyone would run you out of town, so no one really has a claim on me," said Mary. "And yeah, I should really get that gun back."

"Wehll, it's good t'know that you ain't been claimed," he said with a wink. "An' it's safe with me. Any time you need me it, I'll be in my bunk (http://apocalypsesoon.livejournal.com/78536.html)."

Dale might have chosen the wrong day to stop by the hotel.

In a suit.

But he did have official business and and that means of course dressing officially.

"Hello Agent Cooper," said Mary, smiling. "Are you here to try out the salmon?"

She had nothing against suits in an official capacity. After all, Danny McCoy would have looked really strange patrolling the casino floor in his cowboy outfit.

"Well I wasn't, but as long as I'm here I don't think I should refuse such a generous offer," Dale said with a grin. "I actually came over to talk business."

"Why don't you have a seat?" said Mary, gesturing to one of the nearby tables. "What kind of business did you want to discuss?"

In the meantime, Gunther came over with a plate of salmon tempura.

"Well the police department is going to be having a Policeman's ball," Dale replied. "It's on August 10th and we were wondering if you'd be willing to cater the event. Possibly even hosting it if the Town Hall is unavailable."

Mary breathed a sigh of relief. So this visit had nothing to do with the briefcase of possible mob money, the date she went on with a student, or her legal troubles in Las Vegas? She could live with that.

"We'd be happy to provide the catering. Right, Gunther?" she asked, turning to face the chef. Gunther was nodding enthusiastically. "Plus none of the ballrooms are booked at the moment. The main ballroom is yours if you want it."

"Excellent," Dale said completely unware of any type of legal issues whatsoever. "I'll let you know in the next day or so if we'll need the ball room or not."

He nodded at Gunther as he examined the salmon.

"I also must apologize. I've been meaning to drop by and see how you've been doing since you got here. Fitting in well?"

"It's been an adjustment," said Mary. "It's very different than what I'm used to in Las Vegas, but it can be just as crazy. I've made some good friends and put together a wonderful staff here at the hotel and that has really helped."

Dale took a bite of the salmon and grinned, giving Gunther a thumbs up.

"Fabulous." he told him before turning his attention back to Mary.

"Well with food like this your business should be flourishing in no time," Dale replied. "Did you have any problems with the dinosaurs?"

"The hotel escaped any major damage," said Mary. "Unfortunately, I had a little run-in with a saber-toothed tiger that left me in the clinic for the weekend, but I've fully recovered from my injuries."

Up super early because I can't sleep. SP until morning, I guess, and then again after 1 PM when I have to go to work.

Oh, and just to show you that not every guy can look good in a suit (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/thena8572/kyles_suit.jpg) but I still love him anyway.
