The Devil's Nest, Monday Night

Musubi was behind the bar this evening in stead of the master of the establishment.

Instead of taking his usual place serving drinks, Lucifer was at the piano. Certain unpleasant feelings did not make for a particularly happy devil.

It would be best to simply ignore him.

Everything was so much more enjoyable as a human. Especially when the other choice was being furry and...feline. Kabuto watched Lucifer from a distance for a few moments to get an idea of his mood, then smirked slightly and walked closer. "Having a good night, are you?" he asked, though it was almost more of a statement.

"Quite." Lucifer did not look up from the piano. "Human again, are we?"

"Quite." Kabuto could play that game, too. "A favor for a favor." He watched Lucifer intently, silently but fervently glad he wasn't feeling an urge to pounce on Lucifer's fingers. "What has you in such a lovely mood?"

Games were something they were both very good at.

"Nothing that concerns you."

"If you say so," Kabuto replied with a shrug. "I figured I should let you know there will be no problem for me to open on Wednesday. Perhaps I should have just left you to assume."

"Assumptions are dangerous things," Lucifer replied, not sound at all as if he was talking about Kabuto's coming to work on Wednesday.

"They are," Kabuto agreed. Reaching up, he pushed his glasses higher on his nose and turned to go. "Good night, my lord," he said over his shoulder, a heavy dose of sarcastic amusement in his voice.

Well now. Lucifer had two options here. He could simply ignore the boy's insolence and continue playing, or...

Or he could act on these unwanted and all together unpleasant emotions.

He was away from the piano and had he his around the back of Kabuto's neck before he could take another step.

Kabuto paused. He was smart enough to know when to do that. "Oh? Did I say something wrong?" he asked sweetly, glancing up at Lucifer.

"If I am your lord as you say," Lucifer replied calmly. "You would be wise to keep your tongue civil."

"My tongue is very civil," Kabuto snarked in return. "How you choose to take my words is entirely up to you, my lord."

A sharp nail ran gently over Kabuto's jugular as Lucifer leaned in, a small smirk on his face. "Is that so, boy?"

"Are you calling me a liar?" Kabuto asked boldly, not backing down into no-really,-I'm-innocent mode. He didn't seem to care about Lucifer's unsubtle threat.

What was the point of making it subtle at this point?

"Yes."

Touché.

Kabuto snorted, crossing his arms and looking away from Lucifer, as if daring him to do more. "What was that earlier about assumptions being dangerous?"

Lucifer chuckled. "It is not an assumption if I know it to be true, child."

"Oh, is that so? I'm always very civil; it's up to you to translate my words the way you see fit to do so," the silver-haired ninja smirked.

"Is that so?" Lucifer asked. "I find that hard to believe when you hide a dangerous mind behind that silly mask of innocence. Beings such as us are never to be trusted."

"You think I'm dangerous?" Kabuto asked, smiling. "Why, thank you. Coming from you, that's quite a compliment."

"Anyone can be dangerous, it just takes a greater will to be a threat."

"And do you consider me a threat, Lucifer?" Kabuto raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

Ack! Sorry about this being late! I fell asleep after the drive home and only just woke up.
