Luke's Diner; Wednesday [ 08/08 ]

One day, just maybe, A.J. would stop writing on the specials board once the specials were written, stop before he kept writing until he was drawing, stop drawing until he was creating a masterpiece where there should be special. Maybe.

Until then, there was just a Post-It note over the seemingly random squiggles and shapes that might have read "Oh, just ask me about the specials," but it was hard to tell, because even the Post-It was not exempt from the creativity.

Luke's is open.

Ask him about the specials! Really! He'll have to make them up on the spot, because he can't remember what they were.

Sometimes, it's just gotta be done.

It's 08/08. This makes me happy.

Work was really lame today, though, so I'm balanced.

Marco was there, waiting for his ~~minion~~ sidekick to arive for the bribing.

Definitely sidekick. Only one man in this town was great enough to call her Minion....

"Does asking for double whipped cream on top not factor into the agreement?" she asked before deciding what kind she'd like.

Marco considered this. "It factors."

Turtle thunked a fist on the table. "Curses. Okay, I'm getting strawberry, then."

Marco blinked. "I meant yeah, you can get it. Chocolate for me." He ordered milkshakes for both of them. "So what are you doing in your free from education and/or store working time?"

Turtle's eyes widened. "Free from education and/or store working time? Is there such a thing?"

In the past few days, with the great decimal conundrum, it hadn't felt like that at all. The past few days were kind of a blur in her head of chaos and flailing.

"...Lots of flailing," she said out loud, because she supposed that was what she did outside of work and school, if anything.

Marco took a large slurp of his newly arrived shake. "Is it synchronized flailing?"

"Who would I be sychro--" Turtle stopped halfway to sucking on her own straw before she stopped, blinked, and halted her progress.

"No," she said quickly, and then importantly took a drink of her milkshake. "Definitely not synchronized flailing."

But she was mentally flailing. This potential Jeff Assimilation, after all, was a worrisome thing. Synchronized flailing would mean it might actually be happening.

Marco grinned. "So who would there not being synchronized flailing with?"

Turtle's forehead promptly met the table. "I can still take back my agreement to be your sidekick, you know," she muttered into the Formica.

"But then I'd have to take back my milkshake." Marco pointed out, grinning.

Which left Turtle lifting her head very quickly and taking a very pointedly large gulp of her milkshake, then slammed it down and let out a refreshed, "Ahhhh..."

And then groaned, hands going to her forehead. "Okay, bad idea. Ice cream headache maximum overdrive, ow."

She had a milkshake moustashe now, too.

Marco wasn't even trying not to snicker. "Greedy greedy greedy. So who's getting married this weekend?" He randomly switched subjects.

"My sister," Turtle's groan was half from persistent forehead pain, half for the topic at hand. "To this really stupid doctor guy that I hate. She's too young to get married. And Denton Deere is a total tool." She frowned, this time all for the topic at hand. "She deserves so much better."

"A stupid doctor? That's both scary and ... scary." Marco couldn't come up with the second word. "Have you tried yelling sense into her?"

"He's not even a real doctor!" Turtle flailed slightly. "He's just an intern, and it's plastic surgery; not even a real medical field, so he doesn't even like save people, like my dad does."

You know, the podiatrist. Totally saves people.

"And I've just about nearly yelled her ear off about it. It's lame. She's probably only doing it 'cause of our mother, 'cause she thinks it's what she's
supposed to do..."

"Your dad's a doctor? Awesome. Mine's an airospace engineer like person who invents things that break my brain." And get him kidnapped by aliens, but he didn't add that part. "Yell at your mother?"

"I do," Turtle nodded. "And your dad sounds cool."

She decided right then and there to bug Jake this weekend on why he isn't an airospace engineer like person.

"He is." Marco said a little wistfully. "Aside from that thing with marrying my math teacher, but I'm chalking it up to a laps in judgement. Or possibly the poodle made him do it."

"Real poodle?" Turtle asked. "Or poodle like you can sometimes be a poodle poodle?"

"This was the original poodle from which I can be a poodle. He tried to eat me jeans and/or leg so I absorbed his DNA to calm him down."

Turtle stared at Marco for a moment across the table.

"It worries me," she said, sipping her milkshake, "that that made sense."

Marco grinned. "You have been asimilated."

Turtle sighed. "'Fraid so. Hey, can you really take up the DNA of any animal and take their form?"

Marco nodded. "Yup. Humans included, but...we don't. Or at least we try very, very hard not to."

"To not do humans, or just not do it in general?"

"Not to absorb human DNA." Marco clarified. "It feels too much like we're stealing their bodies, so...no. I like the milkshake." He said in another attempt to switch topics.

"They're very good milkshakes," Turtle agreed, nodding, and sipped thoughtfully. She might be doing some potentially evil plotting. Involving a nice mix of using her new sidekick status and blackmail, if it was necessary, to the effect of these powers, a certain giant underwear eating dog, and hilarity. Of course, it was still pretty rough around the edges, so she'd have to refine the plot a little before saying anything.

"So how long are you going to be gone?" Marco decided that randomly jumping subjects was just going to be his thing today.

"I'm not sure," Turtle admitted. "Probably through Wednesday. I'll be missing radio." She pouted at that a lot.

"Aw." Marco said with a completely straight face. "Who's taking over for you?"

"Don't know," Turtle said. "I'm leaving a note at the station. It'll be a surpriiiiiise." She waggled her fingers.

"So I should probably avoid being seen in public that day." Marco said after a pause.

"Well," Turtle said, because Marco had just walked right into that one and it would be a federal crime not to say it, "you should really avoid being seen in public any day, Marco."

Marco stuck his tongue out at Turtle. "Only because my charming wit and personality put everyone else to shame."

Turtle snorted a laugh, rolling her eyes. "Yes. My thinking exactly."

"See, great minds do think alike!" Marco said, pretending to have completely misunderstood.
