Having posted his letters made Gabriel feel he had accomplished something today. It was becoming an increasingly rare feeling, so he savoured it, celebrating the event with coffee and donuts, and tried not to think about how sad his existence had become.

An orange kitten wandered into the churh, a bit more subdued that she had been earlier at the hotel. Maybe she sensed that the church was no place for her usual antics. She also smelled coffee and where there was coffee, there was usually cream.

Gabriel hated cats. It didn't matter that they were small and cute. They were not welcome in the church. "Hey, get out of here!" he shouted, then hissed at the cat.
