The Park, Sunday, Late Afternoon

The day was cloudy, and thunderstorms threatened; but Ronan had felt the need for some fresh air, and the thunderstorms themselves would have been a welcome diversion, full of life and power. His recent encounters with Teddy weighed heavily on his mind -- certainly, he didn't want to interfere with what Chad and Teddy had going on between them, but at the same time he couldn't shake the feeling that there was at least something going on between them.

So he was walking through the park, listening to the conversations of the trees and plants around him. Without focusing, it was more of a pleasant hum; he wasn't as adept as Nita at discerning their particular form of Speech, not unless he was trying. But the background noise was a counterpoint to his own thoughts, supporting him, keeping him from feeling alone as he emo'd.

It seemed that Ronan wasn't the only one walking through the park, thinking about recent encounters with Teddy. Chad was hoping that football practise would help him get his mind off of it, but that didn't seem the case at all. He felt worse and worse the more he thought about it, too. He knew he shouldn't be bothered by it; Teddy said nothing happened and that nothing was going to happen, and he knew that should be good enough. But what he was actually feeling contradicted with that thought. If it really was nothing, then why would Teddy even bring it up? Worrying about it like this...was that saying that he didn't trust Teddy? But he did. It was just...

Grunting slightly, Chad stopped a moment to rub his forehead as if that would help keep his head from hurting. It didn't make sense. Why was this happening now, after he'd been...good about stuff? Been trying hard. Not hard enough? Maybe he had just started taking everything for granted. Or that he'd just forgotten exactly why he usually didn't allow himself to get close to people...

He looked up for a moment to decide which way to go, and that was when he spotted someone else in the area.

...And, of course it would have been Ronan, wouldn't it?

Chad might have been staring a moment. Chad might also just be standing there without doing anything for a moment because that was what he did. It was really difficult to tell. Finally, though, as if remembering that he should do something, he lifted a hand to the back of his neck and rubbed it a little. "Hey. Yeah. Sorry about that."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"You don't have to," Chad said, with a small shake of his head. He reminded himself sharply that he was supposed to be thinking of way to make it up to Ronan that he'd ruined his nice present, but then...instead, he found himself asking himself about what happened after he fell asleep that night, and the hand at his side tightened up into a fist. The other kept rubbing his neck, as if repeating the action helped focus the energy into something less...brash.

"If anything," he added, "I...probably owe you now."

"You really don't have to," Chad insisted again. "I mean, unless you want to. But, I mean..."

Why would Ronan even want to do that again? Maybe Ronan just really liked cooking. Or maybe Ronan just really liked Teddy. And then Chad grunted in annoyance at himself. Just because Teddy liked Ronan didn't mean...Cooking. Ronan just liked cooking. It wasn't fair of Chad to be thinking like that, jumping to conclusions when Ronan was just trying to be nice....

"But you already did deliver," Chad argued, in the fashion he usually argued in, which meant it sound like he was just stating that it was day.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Chad shrugged. "I had a bit. And it isn't your fault that I fell asleep."

It was totally the sand's fault for being so warm and comfy.

Chad had a very...simple perspective on things sometimes. He just shrugged again.

"Maybe," Chad said. "I'll talk to Ted." And, realizing after he'd said it that it sounded, to him (although anyone else would have to have pretty good ears to pick it out of his stoic tone), a little bitter, Chad winced, because even after all that, he still felt bad about falling asleep and ruining his present with the tigerness and all.

"I mean...If you're sure you want to."

See, Yasutora? It is actually something Ronan wants to do, based on the merits of him enjoying to cook. In fact, he knew for a fact that Ronan cooked for people all the time, and he knew he wasn't in any position to refuse Ronan that.

Chad ran a hand through his hair; it settled right back over his eyes, and he grunted a surrender. "Think...want any help with anything?"

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"You did...fajitas the other night, right?" Chad asked, head tilting. His tiger memory was fuzzy. Mostly, all he could remember were naps, ear scritches, and tummy rubs.

Mmmm, tummy rubs.

Chad took a moment to consider this. He knew he'd talked with Ronan about some Japanese, but he also knew that the angle here had been Mexican. Let's see...was there anything that he really, really missed from those days?

"...Empanadas," he said, after only a brief beat.

And then promptly winced as his brain caught up with his stomach and he remembered who'd made those for him last...

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, great. Now he couldn't take back the empanadas. Shit. At least he was secure in the fact that he knew Ronan, for all his cooking prowess, would never be able to make them as well as Nadia.

Which, in retrospect, was not a good thing, but a bitter part of his brain that rarely surfaces was reminding him that, hell, Teddy would probably be thinking about Ronan when they did this, so he might as well be thinking about her.

"Something with lots of tomatoes," he decided.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Chad nodded. "Sure."

This was...going to be...well, Chad was just going to go with interesting right now...

There were quite a few something elses, really, in the form of questions, like if anything happened that night or if Teddy wasn't being entirely honest with him or if Ronan felt anything for Chad's boyfriend, you know, the one that meant practically everything to him...

But Chad just said "No, nothing else," shaking his head slightly and lifting a hand in a sort of waveless wave before turning slightly to head down a different path of the park. "See ya around."
