Movies in the Park, Wednesday at Dusk (08/22)

Just before dusk, the temporary movie screen is set up, with a big grassy area in front to provide seating space. A few people have arrived early to share picnic suppers, and to visit with their friends.

[OOC: The movie begins at dusk, and the screen will be removed afterwards. OCD threads will be are up for your movie-going use. Anyone who needs the park for other purposes will find that the outdoor cinema takes up only a portion of the park, with plenty of space available for non-movie needs.]

Andrew threw down his blanket and settled down to enjoy the movie.

He loved cartoons.

John was there, claiming a good section of the grass with a blanket. And a pillow. Okay, two. They were not stamped with the Hotel Arms insignia except where they were. "I declare this spot in the name of Connors!"

"What about me?" Anemone flopped down on the blanket and took one of the pillows. "Don't I get a claim too? If I have to fight you for the spot, I totally will."

"I'll so take you," he said, grinning. "And it's a big blanket! With pillows! Totally got it covered. And I brought pretty much everything," he said, pointing to the handwavey wagon with a pickinick basket with boozepie and some food. And forks.

"Go ahead and try it." Anemone flexed her fingers and grinned at him. "I have ten volunteers for the Tickle Army right here."

She made herself comfy and looked around the park. "Wow. This is kinda cool. Are there lots of movies outside?"

"I brought twenty. Reserves," he said, lifting a foot. And one corner of his mouth in a grin. But not with the foot, cuz ew.

"Every Wednesday, they show a classic movie. This is... sorta like a drive-in. 'cept in an actual drive in, we'd be in a car, and there'd be a speaker to listen to. Or the pipe it through the car radio. But this is nice."

"Riiiiiight. Ninja attack tickle toes?" She kicked at his foot idly. "You might be good, John Connor, but I doubt you've trained attack tickle toes. That's a bit extreme, even for you."

"Day and night, for a month straight, I trained. Flexible as monkey feet, nimble enough to pull your wallet out of your back pocket, this is the legend of this Ninja Attack Toes. Without warning, they flip out--" he kicked at her foot back--"and attack!" He grinned. "Something to drink?"

"Yes please." Anemone sat up to remove her shoes and stretched. "Something yummy too, please."

"Excellent," John said, kicking off his own shoes, releasing the ninja attack toes. They were at rest, but at any moment--

"Sammich?" he asked, waving a baggie with a turkey sandwich. "You want nice quiet date-movie picnic lemonade or something stronger?"

[identity profile] death-of-hope.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Lemonade for now. You can spike it later when I'm not looking." She made a lazy grab for the bag. "Hey, quit waving. Gimmie."

He handed her the sandwich. And a cup of lemonade. "Spiking will commence when you're not looking. Gotcha. So. Have you seen this before? Snow White?"

Re: During the Movie

[identity profile] death-of-hope.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Nope." Cooing happily at her sandwich, she took a large bite. "The only movie I knew prior to coming here was the Wizard of Oz. I used to watch that over and over when I was alone." she hummed a few bars to herself and smiled. "I would dance and be merry, if I only had a brain..."

"Puht 'em uuuuhp, puht 'em uuuhhhp," he said as the Cowardly Lion. "Yeah, I've seen that about a billion times. Read the book a few times as well. Good stuff. This one? Based on a fairy tale. It's pretty good. One of the first animated movies or something, so it was all done by hand." He bit into his own sandwich.

She started giggling at his impersonation. "Hey, that's pretty good. Now we just need a Tin Man. Dorothy's a brat, we can skip her. But I do like her shoes. They're shiny."

"Are animated movies not done by hand anymore? How can you make a picture if you don't draw it?"

"And magic. Can't forget the magic shoes. Sometimes all I really want is a pair of magic shoes."

"Well, it's done by computer, mostly. Some are hand-drawn and scanned in to the computer, and the compydor fills in the spaces in between, cuz each second is 30 drawings, and that's a lotta labor and time to hand-draw all of those frames, those drawings, for the whole movie. And some are just done from scratch on a computer. Just depends on the tech and budget. But this is a classic, before they made silly singing sidekicks and all that jazz."

"I like jazz music. Are there cartoons with jazz music? That would be fun."

"What kind of magic shoes? Three wishes? Ones that can take you home? Shoes that never make your feet hurt? I'd love to have shoes that never made my feet hurt." she clicked her bare heels together experimentally. "Huh. No wish."

"Hey, you're still here! Oh, yeah. Motorcycle boots of alertness, gym shoes of no athlete's foot, and dress shoes of no hurtyness. That'd be my shoe tree," he said, bringing out the pitcher, which may or may not be spiked now. "More lemonade?"

Re: During the Movie

[identity profile] death-of-hope.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Leaving wasn't my wish, silly." she tried clicking her heels together again and grinned. "Ha! My telepathic wish for more juice has been filled. Although if I could have any pair of magic shoes, I'd really want a pair of nice warm fuzzy anti-hangover slippers. Those would be the best."

She held her cup out and gave big puppy eyes. "Refill?"

Re: During the Movie

[identity profile] apocalypsesoon.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I didn't even think of that one," he said. "Those would come in handy so many times." He refilled her glass, from the possibly spiked lemonade. "I'm telepathically sensing you want another sandwich. Or is it you want more tickling?" he said with a grin.

"Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to school we go, with razor blades and hand grenades..." That was one of the songs that kids had sung when he was little that gave him the creeps. It was stuck in his head now though.

He flopped down in a lawn chair and shouted, because he could

"Viva la revolution!"
