Re: Buy Your Tickets (8/26)

Rodney walked straight up to the over-dressed woman. "Um, two tickets, please?"

Re: Buy Your Tickets (8/26)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Rodney took the tickets. "Thank you, we'll be sure to do that," he replied with equal dryness.

Charlie grinned when she saw the first link, and then looked back at Rodney. "Thanks for buying my ticket to the Pyramids. Pretty expensive for a fourth date, hunh?" She sized up the ball, then tried to hit it so it went up the ramp and past the Sphynx. And missed. "Darnit."

"Oh, it was no trouble at all," he said with a laugh and a wave of his hands. "I'm just that kind of wonderful guy." He watched Charlie hit and miss. "That's okay, I really don't know anything about golf, mini or otherwise." And to prove his point, Rodney hit his ball and it rolled back down the ramp.

Charlie snickered, then tried again, and had hers roll off the Sphynx's nose. "I hope we don't end up getting stuck in Egypt all afternoon, though I guess there are worse places." She shook her head. "So you have a younger sister? How much younger?"

"I'm sure we'll escape from the Land of Denial at some point," he punned. Taking a closer look at the placement of the hole, Rodney hit his ball again and this time it stopped just a few inches away from going in. "Yeah, Jeannie. She's five years younger than me. But she's pretty smart for a ten year old," he said proudly.

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Charlie grinned at his bragging on his sister, then carefully hit her ball, watching it come to rest just behind and to the side of Rodney's. "That's cool. I've always wished I had a younger brother or sister." She cocked her head. "Or an older one. There's just me and my grandpa now." She blinked. "Well. And my aunt and her kids. But they don't really count."

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Rodney carefully tapped his ball into the hole. "Eh," he shrugged, "mostly she's just annoying, but it's nice to have an ally against our parents. Does your aunt not count because she lives far away or do you just not like her?"

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Little of both," Charlie admitted. "I barely know her, really. She lives in Albany, and only came to visit about twice a year. And it's more that she doesn't really care for me. I'm not her niece, I'm adopted. She thinks my Grandpa should pay more attention her kids." She shrugged, uncomfortable. "She's not a bad person, but she doesn't want me around, so... I'm glad I got a scholarship here." She tapped her ball into the hole, and tilted her head. "Are your parents difficult, if you and Jeannie gang up on them?"

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Who needs her then?" He waved to dismiss Charlie's family issues. "If I were you, I wouldn't waste time thinking about her." He really wouldn't.

"My parents sort of hate each other and have a tendency to take it out on us so we don't gang up on them so much as help each other avoid their wrath." He seemed to realize that this could be taken the wrong way. "Not that they're abusive," he added quickly. "I don't mean to imply that they've ever hit us or anything! They just get mean and yell a lot."

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Charlie nodded at Rodney's assessment of her aunt, then winced, picking up her ball to move on to the next hole to cover her reaction. "Sounds not-fun. Sorry. Were they really mad about the thing with the CIA?" she asked, setting up her shot for the next hole, and giving Rodney a little grin. "And we are out of Denial, yay."

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"You could say that, though I'm not sure mad covers it. Nobody wants their child to draw the attention of the CIA," he said as the moved to the next hole. "Ah, lovely San Francisco."

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Definitely not," Charlie said, speaking from her own experience. "Ever been to California? Or anywhere else in the US, besides here?" She stood back and waited for Rodney to take his shot, and twirled her golf club back and forth.

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"I haven't been to California, no. We tended to avoid the whole family vacation thing beyond the occasional trip over the border at Niagara Falls." He studied the layout of the hole by walking around it before he was ready to take a shot. When he did, the ball stopped just short of the hole. He sighed.

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"This is either harder than pool, or our total lack of experience is sabotaging us," Charlie said. She hit her ball, and managed to get it farther along the Golden Gate Bridge than Rodney did, but still pretty far back from the hole. "At least for me."

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, there are a lot more variables to consider here than on a flat pool table. But I think I'll get the hang of it pretty soon," he said as he tapped his ball the final inch into the hole.

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"We'll just have to come back and play again, hunh?" Charlie said, sounding slightly hopeful. "I mean... well, yeah. After I get back, maybe."

Okay, nice segue, McGee.

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, we definitely need to practice," he nodded and grinned. "Um, you could call me when you get back, if you want?"

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sure!" And that was almost worthy of a happy dance, but Charlie decided to save that for when she talked with Turtle. She grinned at him, then carefully said, "I went on another date with John, last week. It was nice. But, um. I don't think I'll be going on another date with him."

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Rodney grinned back when she agreed, but his face sort of froze when she mentioned the date with John. "Oh, well, um, thank you for telling me. Full disclosure and all that," he tried to smile. "So, um, no one else?" Rodney cringed as soon as he said that.

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nope." Charlie took her shot and sank it, then smiled as she retrieved it. "I mean. Um." Great, come on, she'd had this worked out before. "Well. I'd rather just date one person, you know. And we get along really well, and you think I'm hot-- you do still think that, right?"

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, yes! Absolutely!" He nodded enthusiastically. "Not that that's the only thing I like about you," he added quickly. "You're not as annoying to be around as most people. I mean, I like being with you which is surprising because I don't really like most people. And you seem to like me and that's really amazing. And, uh," he tried to cut off the nervous babbling. "So, you mean, um, like us dating dating?"

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes?" Charlie tried, not sure whether to be intimidated or amused by the babble. "I mean, I guess we could just keep hanging out, and not call it dating, but, um, I'd like to date you, so..." She raised her eyebrows, biting her lower lip. "Unless you want to try kissing first. I guess if we hate that, we don't have to date. Or something."

Great. No pressure. Why couldn't she stop talking? Why? Why?

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, no, I think the dating idea is great," he rushed to assure her. "And kissing is also very good. Not that we need to do that right now or anything. I mean, rushing things would be bad. Right? I mean, that's what people always say." Not that Rodney had a whole lot of practical experience with this sort of thing.

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, that's true." And if he wanted to date her without kissing yet, that definitely meant he liked her for herself, right? On the other hand... "Um. Maybe just a little kiss? And, we can work up to anything else." Yeah, that sounded better. Nothing riding on it, just a kiss.

Wait. Wait. Maybe she should have a breath mint first.

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, well, if you want?" He asked hesitantly and took a small step towards Charlie. Oh, no, this wasn't awkward at all.

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, you're cute, and you're smart, and you look like you'd be a good kisser..." Charlie closed her eyes and put her hands over her eyes. "And I could shut up at any minute, really, but embarrassing myself is way more fun, so could you kiss and then we could move on and have fun and later it'll be fine and I'll just remember the good parts without wanting to blush myself to death...."

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right," Rodney said to himself and took the final step to put him in Charlie's personal space. He leaned in and kissed her firmly on the mouth. She had asked, after all.

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Charlie had still been babbling ("--and you know, it's not a big deal, seriously--") when Rodney caught her, so there was a little "Mmmmph!" But she already had her eyes closed, and it was... nice.

She managed to kiss him back after a second, mouth curving into a smile.

Feeling Charlie respond, Rodney softened the kiss before slowly pulling away. He smiled shyly at her, not sure what he should say at this point.

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Charlie opened her eyes, and smiled gleefully at Rodney. "Yay."

"Eat your heart out, April Bingham," he said mostly to himself. This would totally be worth getting mono. "So, dating? That's... wow."

Re: Play Miniature Golf (8/26)

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"It is. It really is." Charlie gave up and did a little spin, then nudged his arm. "Okay. So. Your turn to attempt Stonehenge. Make it good!"

And they played through the rest of the course, stopping for food afterward, and totally forgot to keep score.
